Self-Control Is Like A Wall of Protection | Proverbs

  • What would you do if you arrived home one day to find the walls of your house gone? Everything else is still in place, but the walls are missing. What would happen? Your stuff might get wet or stolen, and you might have trouble sleeping out of fear. Scripture tells us that just as walls protect things, we too need a wall of protection.
Join us on Day 25 of our series #GetWisdom as we dig into Proverbs 25.
As you may already know, I have the privilege of being a motivational speaker in public schools through Hello Mr. Brown and the Choose Well program. I get to do assemblies and classroom visits and sometimes some one-on-one mentoring, but my favorite is small group talks. I often end up talking with a group of boys about how to make good choices and have self-control. I often tell them this: if you don’t control yourself, someone will have to control you for you.
This relates to our verse today. Proverbs 25:28 - “A man without self-control is like a city broken into and left without walls.” We often tend to be very impulsive. We think something and we do it; we think it, and we do it. We don’t think about the consequences until later. So when I speak to kids, I try to encourage them to think about the consequences beforehand. It’s kind of like playing chess: you need to strategize, understand what your opponent’s future moves might be, and most importantly, plan your own next moves carefully.

Abba Father, I come into agreement with this message according to and loosening the word of proverbs 25:28, 2 corinthians 6:14-18, matthew 6:24, 1 john 3:10 for my life, the lives of my family, friends, colleagues, neighbours, acquitances and those around me, the body of Christ and the lives of my opponents at all times while binding to hell lacking constraints to preserve one's spirit upon binding to receive complete and full self-control over one's own spirit and compulses, binding to hell being unequally yoked with and have any common share with any evildoer serving satan in lacking self-control over one's spirit, in the name and by the blood of Jesus Christ, amen and hallelujah!

Keep battling but even more keep trusting God. We are empowered by the grace of God. We do our best while trusting the Lord. For me that means prayer. Not just praying in the morning but in the moments I’m tempted, I want to stray and when things are good. Thanks for the reply.
