From what we see in the memory, Duets Guide and the Cellist used to be very close friends turned lovers (that's my personal headcanon don't attack me) but then slowly grew apart. And that exact seated pose she does kind of explains how an ancestor spirit becomes a husk. Their light acts as their heart and when their emotions become too much for the heart to handle, their light slowly dies out.
