    The law of the little shovel.
    If you want to dig a big hole, you need to stay in one place.
    I really found this advice really useful for me to stick to my style for at least 10 versions of this Urban Mandala.

    Nicely done Joseph! I often wonder about the focus concept versus wanting to learn and explore new things constantly. I'm sure that digging a deeper hole will reveal lots of insights in one's journey.

      Thanks, I tend to always jump on the new thing, take a new perspective of the same place but I'm really trying to work on digging that hole and see how deep the rabbit hole can goes.

    I see a lot of people stuck on finding a style. I just don't feel the need to. For right now I just want to create whatever I want.

    I would really like to know who started the myth about “Cohesive Body of work”. I have studied the history of many of the great historical artists and they were diverse in their interests- mediums and styles. Picasso was especially rebellious against this notion. Why do we now want to put artists in a box. Or worse make up excuses to exclude great artists for this mythological BS reason?

      I can see your point but I'd say that artists do find a style they explore for a time and make their own. Some stay there their entire carreers and others move on and explore new styles. We build on the styles we explore and it's extremely rare that an artists does one piece completly out of any style they've practiced that is brilliant. Picasso had his style periods and mindfully liked to break all the rules but I'd say he's more of an out lier. Just my point of view.

      @@QuantumVariant thanks for your comment. So what would your advice be for an emerging artist with a versatile style?

    • @QuantumVariant
      @QuantumVariant  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@honestempath4222 My advice would be explore each of the versatile style you enjoy doing and build out small collections of 10 - 20 pieces in each style. You maybe surprized where this can lead you.

    So you found the perfect balance .... different subjects but consistent interpretations ... but how would that work in abstracts?

    • @QuantumVariant
      @QuantumVariant  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks for watching.
      I believe most abstract artists find a consistent technique or color palette or style of abstraction that they find gets them the results they want. Even though their work is abstract there is a consistence to it that makes the work their own. Look at artist like Jackson Pollock, Kandinsky, Mondrian, Rothko, even Georgia O’Keeffe. All their work has a look and consistency that makes it their own style yet abstract and so much different from each other. Finding your style is the challenge and will change with time.
      What kind of art do you do? Would love to check it out.

      Joseph Gerardi oh wow, thank you, I would appreciate a professional eye. Where can I email you?
      I enjoy working with acrylic on canvas, so your examples are great for my consideration.
      Two of the artists you mentioned, thier influences/inspiration are apparent to me. Pollock perhaps by the chaos of war and recession and Okeffe, by flowers. What I can’t figure out is what the subjects or inspirations were for Mondrian and Rothko. Do you have any theories?
