- Ukraine's President Zelenskyy has said that every European country that borders Russia and wants to be safe must be a member of both the EU and Nato.
One nation that now has what Ukraine wants is Finland, the most recent addition to the western alliance.
The war in Ukraine, and Nato membership, has shifted the mindset in Finland which has an 800-mile border with Russia.
The once neutral country is now fortifying its territory with miles and miles of barbed wire.
We joined military drills on Nato’s newest frontier.

As a Finn I do not appreciate the click bait titles. Finland has a conscription army. We have prepared for war for 100 years. Ukraine hasn't changed anything else than Finland getting media attention. Nobody here wants war. The reason we prepare is our history. Finns have fought with our eastern neighbors for over a millenia. 30+ wars. What we have learned is that if you punch back you get bullied less. We just want to mind our own business here.
No one wants war. Like you said, if you can furiously punch back the bullies will leave you alone. Violence is the only language bullies understand.
I'm sad to see Finland put in this position, instead of neutrality as an ally it now has the US who has an established record on endless wars with little to come of it. anteeksi

USA put target on their face and they made them join NATO so that they could use Finland as some kind of supply place, battlefield for their proxy war against Russia. I have worked in Finland for couple months and I can say Fins are the most hardcore toughtest people in Europe. And I need to say as Czech I felt in love with Finland mentality.

As a Finn, who is skeptical about whether many NATO members would come to our aid, when the Russians act on their desire to try to wipe us off the face of the earth, I can confirm the Russians are the greatest salesman NATO could ever have. Our politicians could only muster 20% support Russia bumped that up to 80%.
Only thing that Ukraine did for Finland, is for Finland to cease neutrality. The war on Ukraine showed Finland that they could be next and if they're not fast enough, they would fight the war without allies. That is why they chose to join NATO: To have allies against unpredictable warmongerer.

We, the Nordic counties, have a long history of friendship and co-operation. Even in the mid 1960s already we could travel without passports or any hiccups on the borders between all Nordic countries. Long before the Schengen passport-free area of EEC/EU.

Our great neighbors are by nature calm, peaceful, and down-to-earth kind of people. No one is threatened by them. Due to some historical events, Finland has never let its guard down. They know Russia. If you are at war against Finland, it's all your own fault, and Finnish people know how to fight.

Despite Finland wasn't conquered at full during Talvisota, its forces were almost depleted, and only fear of joining of other countries at war stopped Stalin from reclaiming the whole country. During the WW2 Finland lost and again was on fringe of annexation, but as satellite it was considered to be more useful for USSR, so the term "finlandization" didn't appear from nowhere.

You know, despite all the horrible harm nazi Germans did to Soviets, Soviet veterans do not show off telling how many Germans they had killed during the war. This is seen in Russia as impolite and weird. People do not like talking about WW2, it all brings bitter memories. And, by the way, ordinary Russian people have never held grudge against Germany, so it was the US that put today's Germany in this humiliating position, doing everything possible so that US forgave them for their nazi regime. A finn here. I very much hope Sweden will be let into nato and I'm glad our nations have such a positive relationship. But I must say the 'TD' fellow does have a point.
Not much of ancient Finnish culture survived through about 700 years of Swedish colonisation. For an example there is only surface level information on what the religious beliefs and customs of ancient Finns were like because many Swedish colonisers eradicated many of them in their attempts to spread Swedish culture and christianity to the land inhabitated by Finns (back in those days 'spreading christianity' meant either forcing people to be baptised or cutting their heads off because they just weren't into christianity. Also "pagan" religious artifacts were burned or destroyed)
But what happened in the past has happened. It would be wrong to blame the current generation of Swedes for the actions of people who have died generations ago.

As a Finn, may I reformulate the title of this video? Finland and NATO are prepared for Defending themselves against attacks from hostile countries. NATO has no frontline as NATO is not in a war. NATO is an abbreviation, hence the all caps.

Fins are some of the loveliest peoples I’ve ever met, and Finnish border control are one of my best border experience at airports. When I went there a couple of years ago, there was no one there at the border control, and there were three officers, looking a bit bored. We ended up having a lovely chat about the weather, me boasting that London was really sunny when I left and them saying they thought Helsinki had it sunniest at the moment. Then they went on to suggest places to go and what to do around the capital and wishing me a fantastic stay. That was one of my most surreal border control experiences. It felt more like a casual chat a pub or something. It goes to show you Finns are very welcoming people and they would probably like to welcome anyone who comes legally and with good intents. The fact that they had to resort to these measures speaks volume about Russia.

Despite that Russians continued their offensive at Debaltseve and took it on 20th. Russia didn't care about ceasefires.

Yeah. Finland has proper land army. We can raise quarter of million men and woman in 2 days. We have 1500 heavy artillery and mortars for them. And mountain of ammo.
Quite a lot of our 122mm and 152mm ammo has gone to Ukraine as an aid. No problem as we are moving to precision strike in longer than normal arty ranges.
I'm an American who has happily lived in Helsinki for 28 years. I can say that the Finns as a nation have cojones made of steel. Putin will mess with Finland at his own risk, and he won't come out on top if he does. There's a Finnish word "sisu" that's a bit hard to translate exactly, but it means something along the lines of resilience, bravery and determination in the face of great difficulties. The Soviets learned that fact the extremely hard way when they attacked Finland in 1939.

as a Finn, I can tell you that training in Finland is commonplace. military training is almost always going on somewhere and this has been done for generations. so in a way we do prepare, but I would call it more of a practice.
