- On 31 January 2025, Senior Minister Lee Hsien Loong in his Chinese New Year speech at the Singapore Federation of Chinese Clan Associations Spring Reception had urged Singaporeans to embrace new citizens and help them integrate into society.
So Why Did Netizens Criticize Senior Minister Lee Hsien Loong's Chinese New Year Speech?
Singapore Govt immigrants policy is the opposite of America under the Trump administration. I have a lady friend who is a divorcee without any children have been desperately trying her luck to ballot for the purchase of a 2 room HDB flat for many years without success. She has many friends who are PRs from Malaysia that married Singapore men are staying in 4 & 5 room HDB flats. She rented a room from one of them. Her friends often teased her by saying she being a Singaporean has to rent a room from a PR.

Don't talk about NUS. I do have a polytechnic friend who is from China, Hu Nan. He told me that after finishing his studies, he intends to move back to China, where he said there are more opportunities compared to SG with limited career progress. He said he don;t want to fulfil his obligation for the scholarship he received from polytechnic!! As long he do not land in sg or come back, he will be "fine"....

Maybe think abt it if you are in their shoes. If the child is not born in Sg and did not receive the benefits as a citizen or Pr, why should he serve Ns. If you are the child, will you think its fair to serve Ns. As for the Pr scheme, I think it has pro and con, and we prob need it due to our ageing population.

The SIA air stewardess asked me to go to another seat so that the white man sitting besides me could have my seat because he had very long legs and he would feel comfortable in my seat. Hello! He did not even ask but she offered ! If she wanted to care so much about him, she jolly well go and do it on her own expense for all I care. She did not have to care whether I felt comfortable. But don't expect me to inconvenience myself so that her dear boy can feel better. If I had to change seat, not to mention that was a chore by itself, I still had to shift my overhead luggage because if not, it would be very hard for me to take it when I disembarked.
It seemed that this country is not wrong trying to attract foreign national to come to live in this country as citizens but it seemed that some of the foreign national took advantage of this country by selling their HDb flat to move to other countries knowing that HDb flat is quite profitable in the first place

Just give them work permit will do. Never give any PR or citizenship. In this way, we do not have to take care of them when they are old and we can always ask them to go anytime. In this way, the work force can be kept forever young. But then, PAP thought they could psycho these people to fight and die for this country by giving them the citizenship/pr. Naive! They will only stay, like Singaporeans themselves, only if they do not have better opportunities elsewhere.
