I like Carharrts. Been wearing them since '88. For a while they were being made in Mexico or Honduras, but last year I went online and bought two pair of black double fronts direct from the factory. They were Union-Made in the USA, and I got a discount for being a state-certified EMT. Pissing off Trumpists is just icing on the cake.

Feel Good Story: Back in November, a family owned ice cream company here in Canada (Chapmans) weren't accommodating the few unvaccinated workers they had in a way that pleased anti-vaccine militants. So, the anti vaccine militants called for a boycott. The Chapman factory, in Markdale Ontario, burned down a few years back and the day after the fire the owners came out and told all the workers not to worry, they still had jobs and the factory would be rebuilt. And it was. They also increased wages during the pandemic in recognition of all the extra anxiety and protocols everyone has to go through. The "Boycott" ended up with little old ladies filling their freezers up with ice cream, and people like me running down to the supermarket to buy ice cream. As you can imagine, November through April or so is a kinda slow sales season for ice cream in Canada. Even with that on their side, the boycott failed miserably.

Skinny people too. Try finding a pair of 32 waist 34 legs in any other brand of work clothes. I wear Carharrts to work every day in the summer as a construction supervisor and every day in the winter as a ski technician. For special occasions like weddings and stuff, I wear my fancy dress Carharrts that don't have double fronts on the legs. Hell, I even wear a pair of Carharrt shorts under my shell pants when I go skiing. All those pockets are the bomb. I wear my Carharrts 365 days a year. Now I'll start wearing them 4 or 5 hundred days a year to celebrate their integrity.

The next day he is working and the jacket gets wet from the rain. As he walks in the cold windy rain up the 3/4 mile trek to the house, he figures out the jacket is not water proof. Next morning he feels horrible and winds up getting a horrible cold. Four days later he is getting worse and decides to see a doctor.
Dr. gives him strong meds, tells him not to work for 3 days, and tells him its not Covid-19. Dr. gives him his bill of $175. Doctor tells him the drugs are anti-biotics and will cost about $50 for one and another $25 for the cold medicine. The guy says, "boy I sure lost a lot of money seeing you along with losing three days of work." It's a moron's move, better described as "cutting off one's nose to spite one's face."
Ideologues often get their priorities hamstrung when what they need commingles with what their cult holds in disdain (see Trump's latest perspective on the vaccine and the anti-vax monsters he helped foment during his re-election campaign).

I'm a Carhartt wearing, semi truck driving, child of a Detroit cop father and devoutly catholic mother, who's also a tattooed and pierced green haired liberal asexual woman lol.
My mother, who's still conservative but has switched to democrat since Trump was voted in and my dad was killed by covid in March of 2020, also wears carhartt.
It will be funny to see if my anti vax Trump loving relatives stop wearing their carhartt coats though. It gets pretty cold in Michigan to be tossing a sturdy, warm coat like that away though...

Damn, that heading scared me for a minute... I thought *we* were supposed to boycott Carhartt! Without Carhartt and Tractor Supply, I wouldn't have anything to wear!
BTW, the Lt. Governor of Pennsylvania, John Fetterman, wears Carhartts. He's running to be the Democratic Senate candidate for PA. There are two Republican millionaires that I know of vying for the Republican candidacy, neither of whom live now or ever have lived in Pennsylvania...one is Dr. Oz from TV, what a joke. I sure hope neither of them gets even a significant number of votes...Pennsylvanians should be really pissed off that Oz and the other guy think they know more about what's best for a state they've never lived in than a guy like John, who's lived there his entire life and served as Lt. Governor. I'm pretty sure Oz doesn't even know what Carhartts are.

Great take as usual. Carhardt is everywhere, and its true they had their roots in "work wear", they have branched out. They'll be fine, and actually this kind of thing will raise their profile with the majority of Americans, so I don't think they are concerned.

I don't think it's possible to boycott Carhartt, there's no other game in town.
Started buying Carhartt a few years ago because I got tired of banging my head against a wall. I'd buy the exact same size and model Levi's and one pair is just right, the next is too small, the third too big. Carhartt is the only brand with consistent sizing over time, sometimes even across models.
Guess I should go buy a couple more before they get run out of business, haha. Maybe I'll pick up a couple pints of Ben and Jerry's while I'm at it.

I used to drive a truck for a company and one year they decided to buy all their drivers boots. The caveat, of course is that if a driver fell off their truck not wearing the approved boots, they couldn't claim any workman's comp. So, Carharrt may be a liberal bastion of trying to protect the vulnerable of our society. Or, a bean counter figured it would easier and less costly to require all employees to be vaccinated so that they could have less days that their workforce would potentially be sick. Either way, it's a good policy.

If they think Carhartt is going out of business, they're underestimating A) how many leftists and people who don't give a fuck actually do labor and B) how many leftists, etc like to appropriate working class aesthetics.
Honestly, Duluth trading could probably up their numbers a lot if they marketing those kick ass backpacks to wider demographics.

Chasing cars is the perfect metaphor. I've heard a few people use that when referencing Jan. 6th because that really is the case. They got where they wanted, and then had no clue how to proceed. The inevitable getting run the hell over by said car was just a little delayed in this case.
