Here's something that neither the video nor the internet can kill: the wonderful mix that you just made. It's one of the disco/new wave songs that truly deserves an extraordinary extension. What a purrfect touch to an already wonderful classic! You keep rockin', DJ Disco Cat!!!
This takes me back…I was in middle school when this came out and I thought it was the coolest song I’d ever heard. As an adult - who is a professional classical musician - I’m still in awe of this song. There’s real musicianship here.

I saw this video when it first came out in MTv and it got a ton of airplay. I told myself I would have little chance of ever meeting Geoff Downes. Years later have hung out with him on multiple occasions, calls me by name, and I gave him a stage suggestion for his rig, that he uses to this day. Great guy!
I had just turned 15 when this song was released. Its impact on pop culture is immeasurable and immortal. Thank you Trevor Horn for a timeless, futuristic masterpiece.
I was born in 1990. When I was growing up as a kid this song was pre-programmed on every dance mat I danced on at friends houses and also on dance machines in every arcade I visited in England, UK where I am from. Fond memories to a brilliant song I fell in love with since the first day I ever heard it. Thanks Disco Cat, I love all your work. ❤
It Jun-9-24 having a drink 🥃 cheers 🥂 to all of you who were there in the 80s mad love to everyone who was there wasn’t it awesome. Wish we could go back
Great work here DJDicoCatV2, Trevor Horn is a true innovator, his production methods were and still are trailblazing, he revolutionised the sound of a post punk / new wave band from Liverpool called Frankie Goes To Hollywood, his work on a very basic track RELAX turned them into global superstars, Trevor also played and produced with prog rock megastars YES, he has to go down as one of the greats, imo you have made a superb choice here, I’m sure just like TH you aspire to inspire, keep up the amazing work DiscoCatV2, I know you are definitely inspiring hundreds of like minded people right now, kudos to you, bravo, all the world is a stage 👍😎💪.
Estupenda versión de Buggles - El vídeo mató a la Estrella del Radio! Un gran clásico mundial! Gracias por compartir! Tu canal es lo máximo! 🎤🎸🎵🎶💚🎆👍🤗😍❤️⚡😀

One of the best Pop singles of the late 70s beautifully and brilliantly updated and extended, so many classics require this DiscoCat treatment as they were woefully short and now you’re breathing new life into them - fantastic😎👌 Now included in my Mashups & Remixes You Tube playlist.
You are the only genius that has managed to do justice to The Buggles. This should have been the original mix! Thank you so much for reviving such a masterpiece. I am sure Trevor Horn would love it. 😃🙂😊💯💯❤❤❤
Thank you so much for this man, I still have the original single from the late 70's and I still love to hear my old favourites!!!😉💙🤝💙😉 A greek guy born and living in Germany!!!😉💙🤜🤛💙😉❣

I was 7 and a half in Aug. '81 when Mtv debuted, starting with this song. Very few witnessed Mtv's midnight debut, but it caught on quickly. My siblings and I were hooked. Growing up in the 80s was the best.
Use to hear this song all the time on the better Canadian FM channels. Use to turn it up all the time......LOVED THIS SONG... LOVED CKFM. CHFI. 1050 CHUM, AND 97.3 CANADIAN FM. THANKS FOR MAKING MY YOUNGER DAYS NICE!!
I love this song and shockingly the entire album "The Age of Plastic" is just epic, just being this perfect symbol of it's era of disco/New Wave in 1979 prior to basically becoming iconic forever on 8/1/81.
This song introduced MTV in its purity to the music world and kept us innocent for awhile until the 2000's when the channel finally got destroyed by reality TV shows.
Woooooww ...esta canción me transporta a mis tiempos de juventud, simplemente hermosa esta canción, muy clásica y nunca pasara de moda...nunca, excelente canción, no me canso de escucharla!! 😎🎼💯👏👏🎸🎤🎧
Many people, including you, would classify this song as disco. I always saw it as New Wave. Thinking critically, it has elements of both, representing that bridge between the two that took the '70s into the '80s. The lyrics, which commemorate the shift from one genre of media to another, also convey this transitional energy. Considering how MTV transformed and defined the music industry in the 1980s, selecting VKTRS as its first video proved an astoundingly prescient choice.
Hi! You are definitely right! This was already the typical techno new wave that would change the music for good. It is still reminiscent of "disco" but it's techno pop. We cannot forget that in 1981/82 Trevor Horn produced ABC. The second album by The Buggles is a masterpiece of British techno-pop. And that was a very refined kind of new wave! Thank you so much for you comment 🙂
@@citroen143This is new wave/disco, but not for the reason you say. Techno-pop took as much from disco as it did from new wave; Lexicon of Love was a disco record and Horn’s later work was with Frankie, an 80s disco band. Synthesisers were more of a Eurodisco thing than new wave (new wave was mostly punky guitar pop); what makes this song new wave as well as disco is the artsy conceptual weirdness of the Buggles.

PS Please may I make a personal request, if at all possible could you work your magic on a fantastic late 70s disco song by Carolyne Bernier Hold Me, Touch Me, that is if you've not done so before. I came across it this evening and think it's quite fun and a special little disco piece which I hope enjoy too. (But I'm 99.9‰ sure you've got a copy).
