Having had a teenage son who worked as a busser in a dining place, they rotated who had to work at the "carry out station", versus the dining hall. My son just expected that his tips on the carry out station night would be less, however he said it was also easier/less work than running around the dining hall carting away dishes. He said he feels the much smaller tip is absolutely acceptable. Cheers to you and Jacob in 2024!
I’ve stopped eating out completely, unless it’s a special occasion. The annoyances of eating out nowadays are not worth the convenience, and have taken all the fun out of the eating out experience.
Easy meal night is my favorite. Honestly the meals at Sam’s club and Costco, while more expensive, are cheaper than takeout and take no effort. I always have a frozen pizza or taquitos or something on hand for nights when we just cannot cook
Tipping has gotten out of control in this country. People should be just given a living wage like in other countries. Also “rounding up” for charity is out of control. I have selected my charities and plan my donations, I don’t like feeling guilty every time I say “not today” when I am purchasing something.
I agree that ipping is out of control. I don't tip when I go into a coffee place, go up to the counter and the person goes to the coffee carafe and puts coffee in the cup and hands it to me. And I don't like being asked to "round up" at Goodwill which is another reason I rarely go there. My area of the country is lower income and the quality of many of the items being donated is not as good.
Sometimes I ask the cashier if their company is matching the donations. If they say no, why feel guilty for donating the same amount as the big corporation?
I agree on tipping….if I am at a traditional sit down restaurant, then I tip 15 percent…if I am at a carry out place or walk through line…I do not tip…these people are paid an hourly unlike a traditional server….also, companies use the promise of tips to low ball wages….as far as rounding up or donating….no…these multimillion dollar companies get huge tax breaks off our donations that we in turn get to make up for….so no
No is no. I feel zero guilt - I am the paying customer - leave me alone, or will take my business elsewhere. It's borderline intimidation, harrassment. I don't have to tip, I don't have to donate because someone asks. I don't give my zip code. I used to hate self check out - but now I love it - no incompetent cashiers ringing items up incorrectly, jabbering away with other employees, pressuring with the f-in donation questions, and more.
Republic Wireless by Dish is what we've used for years at $25/mo. I find smaller thrift shops affiliated with churches or hospitals offer the best prices. They don't have CEO's to pay for and offer more for the communities they serve. 💖
I 100% agree w/ u I’m not tipping a to go orders. Restaurants should be ashamed for passing the buck to customers b/c they don’t want to pay staff. If you r working to go orders u aren’t making wait staff pay the to go person has to be pd @ least minimum wage. Congratulations on the house can’t wait to see. Merry Christmas 🎄
Credit/debit cards....alot of small businesses that are charging the customers the transaction fee of about 3.5%....which is making some customers angry. I have signs on my office door, brochures, website, so they have a choice to save money by paying with cash or check. I didnt want to charge the transaction fee back to the customer, but a small business cant afford to eat that fee. So if you're gonna pay with plastic, ask if they charge you the fee.
Great video! I actually just finished watching/rewatching some of your older videos on saving money over the past couple of days!!! Even though I am good with money and live small and simple (and frugal) - i always enjoy learning new ways, and/or rehearing what i already know to reinforce the knowledge! Congrats on the new house, I look forward to seeing all about it. Happy everything, including 2024, Kari🌞
Yesterday, I switched to a prepaid cell phone plan with my cell phone carrier. I immediately saved $25 per month. If I keep my data usage down, I will change my plan to the $15 a month plan. 😊
I agree w/ you about tipping on take out. I still can't wrap my head around why the recommended tip changed from 10% to 20% "because of inflation." If the food cost more because of inflation that means a higher tip. For the most part I just don't eat out, maybe twice a year. I also don't "round up for charity" I generously give to many worthy causes of my choosing I don't need a middle man to help me with giving. I am especially irked by thrift stores asking you to round up. They get the merchandise for free, often pricing it near or more than retail and then ask for a donation on top of that. CONGRATULATIONS on the new property. I look forward to videos about it.
We don't order food anymore because we think they are saving energy and the food just isn't fried properly. Also the costs are Way up. The minimum is around 40-50 euros for 2 persons. And well for 20 you can make a really good meal😊 I wish you and everyone here a great Christmas and a Happy New Year. And many thanks for your great videos. Your editing and presentation is so good! 🎉❤
I used to get all my couches at Goodwill, but in the last 5 yrs I haven't bought any furniture at Goodwill or second hand because the increase in bed bugs everywhere!!
My Sainted Stepmom was a trouble shooter for a restaurant chain. They would send her to fIling restaurants. She would get them back on their feet keeping them open with good profits. The company would give her a really nice bonus for doing that. She would take the bonus money and Equally divide it among everyone.omcluding herself. Employee loyalty was thru the roof. They loved her. These were Great Depression days and to keep a job was everything. So the company sent her from one restaurant to another. Saving them all She worked as a waitress to a troubleshooter till her 80s
I typically watch your videos on the day they are posted. It’s been a busy holiday season but the wait was so worth it-I’m SO happy to hear about your new contract!!!
I just found your channel. Congratulations on your soon-to-be new home. You seem to have a very good attitude and are thoughtful in your approach on finances. I enjoyed your video and will continue to look for your updates!
i agree - if you can’t afford or dont want to tip don’t eat at the restaurant. you save so much money on drinks and tip taking it to go and picking it up yourself. i too, dont tip 20% percent for carryout but i do tip a dollar or two.
Groceries are so hard for us, and we dont live in a food desert, at all! We are surrounded by grocery stores with good selection...and high prices. We are states away from Lidl, Aldi, Save a lot, even our grocery outlet stores are very pricey. In my area, target actually has the best deal om shelf stable items like canned goods. They beat walmart about half the time, and walmart is a panic attack waiting to happen. I dont even live in a big city, just suburban sprawl I cant escape.
if you cant afford to tip, dont eat at the restaurant and dont doordash. i appreciate this and am subscribing just bc someone with some sense! finally! ❤
Terrific advice! Thank you so much. 2024 is going to be a year of health and wealth for me, as I look forward to retiring soon. Regarding tipping on pick up food - yes, I do tip. I only purchase restaurant food from 3 places, so I know the people at the pick up location. (I'm in Houston, too, so you know what kind of self control this takes! lol) I tip between 10 - 15% and always get very generous portions, little extras like chips, bread, etc. that are not necessarily always included. Thank you especially for the HYSA referrals, I'll look into them today. Happy Debt Free New Year!
I’ve noticed that if you order to take out, some places are charging a fee (for take out) can you believe that! That’s when I talked to the manager to refund this fee and I haven’t been back since. Make sure you check your receipts and don’t just say I don’t need it.
I’m so happy for you ❤, I have been following your channel for years, very proud of you an the inspiration you shared even with a 50+ old women like me. Can wait to see your new home. Congratulations 🎉
i tip on pretty much anything if it's going to service workers and they had to do something significant. . but i bought a gift card today and didn't tip on that.
Even our local pizza shops are now using the delivery services instead of their own drivers. We quit ordering delivery about 2 years ago. I also will not tip for food that I am picking up unless it’s the rare chance we order from somewhere that doesn’t normally do carry out.
You prompted me to call my internet provider here in Canada and now I have a better quality plan for cheaper! Merry Christmas to you and your fam, looking forward to seeing the new property purchase unfold! 🍁
So many good tips! I also use credit cards to earn the cash back. I use it as "fun" money and pay off the balance every month. I treat credit cards as a holding account to make one payment a month instead of multiple.
I love my local charity shops in my small rich city. I find so much branded clothing at under £5 per piece and it’s usually under £3 as I pick and chose what I buy.
ESPECIALLY try for second-hand for sweaters (they truly don’t make ‘em like they used to) and don’t be afraid of the men’s section. For that and outerwear.
I have Verizon. Have 5 lines, pay on my phones (sadly) and have unlimited everything for $230/month. It sucks but I've shopped around and this still ends up being one of the cheaper ones for what we need.
Straight talk is own by Verizon and they have multiple line plans. I pay $90 a month for 3 lines unlimited plus some hot spot. I know they have 4 line plans for $100 a month.
Both of my kids have worked food service. They would rotate waiting tables or working takeout and tips were part of their salary just like a waiter. So , yes I Always tip, after I discovered this five years ago.
Thanks so much for the tips. I really appreciate your videos to help people. I’m from the greater Houston area and use to work in the Memorial City area and always wanted to try their Goodwill but never did. I’ll have to hit them up and the locations you mentioned. Merry Christmas to you and Jason!
Where I live, food industry workers must be paid a living wage ($13-15/hr minimum, usually it is closer to $20/hr), so takeout tip etiquette is only 10%. I could see how that would be different in a state where workers depend on tips just to make minimum wage.
Oh my gosh, Sarah!!! 🥳 I am SO excited for your new purchase!!! Fantastic - can't wait to learn more about it!!! I will tip them EVERY SINGLE time i go, especially if they make sure I've got everything or are a skating carhop.

always on top of xfinity to keep me at the lowest possible price for internet. also annually hunting for better insurance prices living in michigan where our costs are ridiculous.
Great tips! If you know someone w a Costco membership you can buy a gift card on your next trip w them. And going fwd you don’t need a membership card to get into Costco. Plus you can pick up your $1.50 hot dog combo on your way out. Win!
I recently got back into watching your videos. Can you go over how to budget renovations and home repairs, if you haven’t already? Especially when trying to buy other properties, I’m curious how one could do it affordably.
This is my jam! Check out my duplex diaries series renovating my first duplex as I show me doing most of the work myself and showing when and how to save when pros need to come in!
Goodwill has the worst prices in our area. A $3 pair of jeans at another thrift would be $14.99 at Goodwill.
Same. My husband and I were just talking about this last night.
How are bed bugs dealt with in clothing at Goodwill?
And Goodwill gets their items for free and lead people to believe they are a charity when they are not. They don't pay their employees much either.
The ceo of Goodwill makes a salary of $1000000 a year
Having had a teenage son who worked as a busser in a dining place, they rotated who had to work at the "carry out station", versus the dining hall. USA tipping is insane. I am from Europe and we tip 10% if service was good because waiters have normal paychecks from employer.
Plus, in Europe we have strong labour laws and unions. The first Macdonalds to ever be unionised was Macdonalds in Ireland.
I DO NOT tip when I drive to pickup my own food.
Congratulations on the new property! I'm so happy for you! A promotion, a raise AND a new property this year. Way to go Sarah! 🏡
I’ve stopped eating out completely, unless it’s a special occasion. The annoyances of eating out nowadays are not worth the convenience, and have taken all the fun out of the eating out experience.
I don't trust the hygiene of employees or how clean the kitchen is or the expiration dates on food.

I tip 10-15%. Servers are grossly underpaid in most restaurants. The time it takes a server to assemble and pack my order is time off the tables.

I agree. I live in Arizona and Target beats my neighborhood chain grocery stores by A LOT.
OMG Goodwill finally, you are the best spokesperson for them!
what a dream partnership right! I hope they might invite me back to do another!

I do tip 10% on pickup because they did cook the food.

I tip when picking up food. I consider it danger pay since restaurant employees had to work in person during the pandemic
Congratulations on your new venture! I am looking forward to watching your new place become your home.

Excellent tips and I absolutely love Goodwill ❤
Me too!!
They want $50 for a coat. You can get a new one for that.
