Because I've seen the same questions repeated in the comments over and over again, a quick FAQ: 1. "Why a car? This looks pointless" This was the maiden flight of SpaceX new Falcon Heavy rocket. There are so many things that could go wrong during a test flight so no sane person would put a very expensive satellite on top of it when there's a good chance the launch might end in a fireball. So usually new rockets carry a dummy payload (a big block of concrete simulating the weight of a satellite), but Elon thought that was rather boring and thus decided to launch something to capture the imagination of the public and advertize his other company Tesla. 2. "Why are there no stars?" The bright sunlight (and it's reflection coming from earth) are so intense it washes out the faint stars. It's the same as if you go out at night and try to look at the stars while somebody shines a bright flashlight into your eyes. Only if there are little to no other light sources and you let your eyes adapt to the darkness can you see the stars. 3. "Where is the moon?" "Where are the satellites?" The moon makes a cameo at 2:42:00. As for other satellites, there are a few reasons you don't see them. Firstly, space is really big and even though we have several thousands of satellites in orbit around earth, they're spaced apart widely as to not collide with each other. Secondly, it's the same as with the stars. The bright light washes any satellites that might have a line of sight to the roadster out. 4. "I thought the car was going to Mars, why is it still orbiting earth?" The livestream shown here has ended and the video shows the roadster still in a parking orbit around Earth. Earlier today the second stage performed it's last burn and send the car flying off into deep space. Also, the roadster is not really going to Mars, but an orbit around the sun that will take it by Mars in a couple of months. 5. "How long will the livestream last? Does it have solar panels?" The batteries were good for about 10-12 hours and the livestream has since ended as they have run out. The roadster carries no solar panels to recharge. 6. "What is that at 1:07:48?!" This is a view into the LOX (liquid oxygen) tank of the 2nd stage. You can clearly see the remaining liquid oxygen at the bottom of the tank. Similar views have been shown on Falcon 9 before. I'll update if I come accross other important questions, but also implore you to look up answers for yourself. Spaceflight and science in general are amazing topics to read about and with the internet it doesn't take more than a few seconds on wikipedia to start your own journey to uncover the mysteries of the universe. Cheers!
Well, about 70% of Earth is covered in water, but you can actually see the continents. Look for example at 28:30, there's South America. Or 52:30, there's Australia. They're just a little bit harder to see compared to satellite maps or views from the ISS. For one, the roadster is in a much higher orbit than the ISS, so its further away and details are washed out in the bright light again. Also, there's atmospheric effects. Just like we see the sky as blue due to scattering of light by the oxygen and nitrogen in the atmosphere (called Rayleigh scattering), Earth looks very blue from space, because the oceans reflect that blue light. Thus the land masses look bluish as well. Hope that helped ^^
it'll return all lost value back and even will get additional value as an unique peace of a space program ))))) But I'm not sure about this - can we get back it down to Earth and in what state we will get this car..... )

Definitively! Not trying to ruin your pun, but remember the Tesla is actually travelling into the future right now. Ever so slightly, due to the speed. No idea how to calculate, but a few nanoseconds each day I guess. :D
Actually, it's not travelling to the future, it's aging slower than us on Earth, because its speed is orders of magnitude faster than ours, which means, by the laws of general relativity, his local time will flow slightly slower than ours.

his music because it was "gayish" at the time. well i partly disabled in one
way because i don't judge anyone by their style. never thought of it but it
might be because we men have a limited fashion accessories if you compare
to the birds. mum and dad knew i loved david so when he appeard on tv they
would shout at me so that i could see it. this was at the time we had two
chennels to chose from and airtime was 10-22. we had cartoons maybe
twice a week and only two hours.

2:34:20 You can see a lit up city going by underneath, and lightning storms! You can also see radiation from the Van Allen belts making little tiny flashes on the camera sensor.
Magic Smoke FPV, what I fine insane is that that the lightning is from where I live and I can watch it in space
The flashes are actually ancient asian aliens taking pictures out of their spacecraft.
Those lightning flashes are awesome dude.
Whoa that's insane
Magic Smoke FPV beautiful.
its the equivalent of the whole “dad going to get milk” meme. This is where he really went.

Things like this don't come around very often and they remind all of us that anything can perhaps be possible. Bravo one and all.
Laura Skaff I’m so pumped for what the future holds.
Laura Skaff Its is more amazing to see intact the plastic parts of the car at 122°C facing the sun and at -180°C in the shadow.
What kind of plastic Tesla Cars use?
oh unless this is fakeX
Would of been cool if he had put a 360 degree camera in the passenger seat so we could also view from VR. Take a nice nap in the roadster floating through space.
Knowing Elon he'll save that for the Mars mission
I guarantee you there’s one on there but only for his own use

Never thought I'd see the Earth's reflection on the side of a car.
I'm so freaking beautiful
Truf Seeka I'm sure you are but i think we're talking about the car :p
when?
Uh, most people see the Earth's reflection in cars every time they drive.
the way the earth reflects in the paint, windshield and starmans visor just looks magical.
Maryjane Preston i was thinking the same thing. Been taking some awesome screenshots :)
It really is magical
What point in the video does this happen?

"Legends say he is still revolving and searching for aliens"
Because I've seen the same questions repeated in the comments over and over again, a quick FAQ:
1. "Why a car? This looks pointless"
This was the maiden flight of SpaceX new Falcon Heavy rocket.
2. "Why are there no stars?"
The bright sunlight (and it's reflection coming from earth) are so intense it washes out the faint stars. It's the same as if you go out at night and try to look at the stars while somebody shines a bright flashlight into your eyes. Only if there are little to no other light sources and you let your eyes adapt to the darkness can you see the stars.
3. "Where is the moon?" "Where are the satellites?"
The moon makes a cameo at 2:42:00.
4. "I thought the car was going to Mars, why is it still orbiting earth?"
The livestream shown here has ended and the video shows the roadster still in a parking orbit around Earth. Earlier today the second stage performed it's last burn and send the car flying off into deep space. Also, the roadster is not really going to Mars, but an orbit around the sun that will take it by Mars in a couple of months.
5. "How long will the livestream last? Does it have solar panels?"
The batteries were good for about 10-12 hours and the livestream has since ended as they have run out. The roadster carries no solar panels to recharge.
6. "What is that at 1:07:48?!"
This is a view into the LOX (liquid oxygen) tank of the 2nd stage.
Cheers!
i say why not.
Can you explain why you can't see any continents when Earth is in view? That really freaks me out.
I can see the stars at 1:53:15

New cars lose 1/3 of their value when you drive them off the lot. But when you drive them out of the stratosphere...

it'll return all lost value back and even will get additional value as an unique peace of a space program ))))) But I'm not sure about this - can we get back it down to Earth and in what state we will get this car..... )

Do you think this space roadster can hit 88mph?
Definitively! Not trying to ruin your pun, but remember the Tesla is actually travelling into the future right now. Ever so slightly, due to the speed. No idea how to calculate, but a few nanoseconds each day I guess. :D
I think Ernest Cline is a pseudonym for Elan Musk.
Actually, it's not travelling to the future, it's aging slower than us on Earth, because its speed is orders of magnitude faster than ours, which means, by the laws of general relativity, his local time will flow slightly slower than ours.
