  • my personal score 7.5/10
with topnotch voiceacting, good soft sentimental piano music composed byTENMON and as usual from makoto shinkai's work, the background arts is the best.
this is objective but too bad, for me the story is kinda meh...
ending song is "Rain" written by Senri oe, performed by Motohiro Hata.
    for entertainment purpose only

japanese are very passionate about voice acting.
      at th-cam.com/video/aBl6Kg9aNRQ/w-d-xo.htmlm20s
it started from Disappointment, building up into Frustration, then quickly the Frustration turns into Anger,
as She's Explained her true feeling, she relieved his Anger and turn it into Sadness.

No matter how sad or ambiguous we think it is that the movie ended here, it was all for the very best. We don't need a sequel. It'd ruin it. It's perfect. All of it. From the first second onwards, The movie was driving us to the emotions we feel now. That's beautiful. Whatever this movie portrayed might be different for everyone but it sure bought everyone together in their humanness. Hence it is perfect.

You are absolutely right, love is most beautiful to outsider's eyes when it's at its peak. After that, the excitement just went downhill real quick and easily destroyed whatever was built if not done extremely right. That's also why most couple breaks up not long after their accepted confession.

That ending is a masterpiece itself holy shit... When he said "Alone" the silence appeared, then the sun shined and the music dropped. Then when she realized everything, the music came back sounding happier and a bit more melo with the drums, and then the camera pulls away with the sound of them crying together fades and then that's when the lyrics kick in, showing you a proper ending.

Even though I’ve seen this scene a couple of times and I know what would happen, it never fails to make me cry. The timing is just too perfect. Every dialogue mentioned, emotions conveyed to each character, and let’s not forget the cherry on top, the background music. I agree that this does not need a sequel because if we indulge ourselves, we will never get the ending that we wanted, hence, this ending is enough for us to appreciate the whole film.

For those people who are uncomfortable with their age gap, I was uncomfortable with it too until I read the novel. I strongly recommend reading the "Garden of Words" novel (also penned by Makoto Shinkai) and yes, even after that they still have active communication with each other. And both are at legal ages now. Also, the open-ended ending, but it was beautiful.
Read the novel, I highly recommend it.

The first time I watched the movie, this scene hit me, it was a beautiful scene with the sunlight starting to seep in between the clouds. It was just beautiful.
She runs to him, hugs him and the tempo picks up. She snaps and confesses everything, great voice acting.
The lyrics start at 3:20 and I forgot to breathe, and that song has been stuck in my head ever since.
The scenery as the “camera” moves while the lyrics start, and shows the apartment steps with the beautiful sunlight and rainbow.
The movie isn’t necessarily one of my favourites, but the ending will always be one of my favourites.

+John H yes I do. The reason why is because ever since yukino met him the first time, she heard everyone about their problems in life, but back then, she never said 1 word, 1 letter, 1 peep about herself and again he's pointing all this out to her. And that's when she finally came back to reality. And at that point of time, she was actually pouring and pouring out her Heart. And ever since that faithful day, they got together. That's why I give this heartpounting drama anime a 10/10!!!

as you can see on min 7:30. he read her letter and fulfilled his promise to make her a shoes, but he didn't have the chance to give her, because she's moving away and teach at different school, and then he said to himself that when he learnt to be able to walk further (means : able to be more independent) he'll go and look for her.

+Jacqueline Henderson I wouldn't say that last part, mate. They became prominent figures in each other's lives. But they are not romantically involved. It's not that simple.
Both of them were looking for "connection" in the sense that humans are not isolated creatures. The woman, due to bullying from students, fell into her own shell and lost her sense of togetherness with people around her.
The boy pulled her back out into the world.
Whether they get involved romantically later is best left ambiguous. But they did something more important - they reminded each other that they are not alone in the world.

Shinkai always makes weird pairings in his movies.
Especially loves to play with ages.
Part of this is probably to show that no matter how old, you still have problems and it’s okay to act and cry like a child.

Although it was a very good movie with beautiful grafics I have to admit that I don't like open endings, I mean I know that he needed to grow older and become a better match for her but this sad and lonely story transformed from that to a perfect love story because of all the circumstances that put them together in their loneliness and how great they make sense together so I'd really like if a 2 part were to be released because both characters deserve to be happy together and even build a family.

For both, the walking metaphor symbolizes standing on their own legs by being able to provide for themselves.
Or, maybe rather, being able to provide for themselves so they can stand on their own legs...

How many of you have seen this at least 100 times? The animation and voice acting is so BEAUTIFUL in every way. Disney has blue puddles but this movie puts so much into their work that it doesn't "feel" like a cartoon. Whether it's dubbed or subbed(SO MUCH BETTER!) it really is one of the best animated movies to come out of Japan. Some of you might be new to these types of movies and are going through the Ghibli Studios library and Hayao Miyazaki but there are so many other incredible animated movies.
If you like this clip but have only seen disney/pixar movies, you might just get pissed off at what you've been missing. Go ahead and watch Finding Nemo, which is a great movie in its own right. After that you can watch Ponyo and you might be surprised how rich and full of culture a cartoon can be.
