Tony Rice used those rolls a lot! I learned them when I was learning Church Street Blues and use them in almost everything now. great video thanks for sharing!
Great teaching here, Andy! Solid musical ideas. I hear a lot of banjo rolls in there. Allen Shelton had some cool inside out playing. Check out Shelton Special to hear that pattern.
It is my interpretation of that. He has a stroke where he pushes through multiple strings. That technique is tough for me. This gives me a similar sound. Wyatt Rice has a DVD on his brother's rhythm style.
I know exactly what yo7u're talking about, he used a method of picking down on two strings and picking up on the last one which returned him to the starting position. I can't explain it well. @@mandohat

Thanks Andy!!

Awesome Andy! Thank you!
I like how you figure the super bowl is a good time to practice. I usually head to the beach for a surf, cause it will be uncrowded, and no traffic.

For sure comes from a banjo approach to playing. Oh that is like an Allen Shelton roll, isn't it? Do you have a name for that roll?
Ok, I looked it up. I remember banjo bounce. Always looked that one. Thanks!
Now that’s rhythm.
Is this the kinda stuff Tony would do on his rhythm playing?
