Yeah! That would make me feel weird too. But oh well. When I was young they pumped your gas, cleaned your windshield and checked your oil. Lol checked your tires. Lol
With all the illegals coming into this country right now it’s really dangerous for you to be traveling alone. The state of texas is having cars and trucks stolen and homes broken into. All the tine. I’m glad your some place safe.
Beautiful country! You are in my backyard now, you will like Oregon! But you do need to come and see NE Oregon in the 'Alps of Oregon' mountains, and see the Eagle Cap wilderness area. We actually do pump our own gas in rural areas or after hours. But in the bigger metro areas they have gas station attendants who will pump your gas for you!
used to camp at steamboat springs on the Umpqua. loved that trail it runs for miles along the river. the bears get scared and run like hell,a whistle is good to have.
You definitely said it right I'm looking out my front window at the Klamath River. They are removing the 4 dams on it. It will be a true wild river again.
The many times I've been in Oregon I was always able to pump my own gas! They let you do that on a motorcycle .. LOL 🤠 If your continuing up 101 stop at Thor's Well .. fun spot if the waves are up. Also, up by Cannon Beach is Ecola State park .. optical overload to be sure. 🤠
Oregon is a beautiful place, I am an Oregonian, lived here all my life. The black bears are really not much of a problem, they seem to want to get away from you as fast as you want to get away from them. They can be a problem with getting into the garbage though. Cougars are here, rarely seen in the day, do keep close tabs on your little one. Coyotes can be a threat to dogs and cats but not you so much. Enjoyed your video, thanks for sharing.
Safety first. Twenty dollars per night to include showers and restrooms, a beautiful site near the River, you can’t beat that. Just the sound of the River is so relaxing. The Umpqua State Park looks beautiful.
Welcome to Oregon. Glad you could come here Sarah. Conifer forests, the Pacific Ocean, Timberline Lodge and snow capped mountains, the old Columbia Scenic Highway with the Vista House and 600 foot tall waterfalls (travel permit required), Crater Lake, high desert of eastern Oregon, agates and thundereggs, Your month long visit will pass too quickly. I hope you will be able to return soon, very soon.
Absolutely gorgeous campsite! I see a couple trees that would be good for a clothesline😉. Glad the burnt areas are coming back. I saw that first hand in Maine in 1977. Would love to see how it looks now. Thanks for sharing this with us Sarah! Hugs & love to you and Lil One!❤️❤️
Umpqua river valley road is amazing. I drove it last year from crater lake to the coast, then north. Most of the areas that you could camp on...bushwack..are closed now year round. Camp grounds are all open in May...hard to find one in April. Wizard of Oz has munchkins...not umpalumpas by the way. Have fun on the coastal roads...so beautiful.
I'm British. I've been to many states, but not Oregon yet. Iy has been on my hit list for years. Both of my husbands have visited, so am determined to go one day. Btw fire is often necessary to release pine seeds for fresh trees, so it's all part of the cycle for many species. Stay alert for the wonderful wildlife you have there.
The Pacific Northwest is my favorite destination in July & August because of the weather. Ironically, the weather is rather nice right now.👍 I am a solo traveler most of the time, but I know people there and would be doing most activities with friends. Portland and Seattle are the only places I ever felt uneasy in anyway, but it was very specific areas.🤷♂ That being said, if anyone is ever feeling uneasy about a situation or location, I say trust your gut and get away.👍 But Oregon and Washington have so much to see, you will not be disappointed👍
Beautiful area, sounds like the area I am living in. All pretty much burned up back in 89. Some trees survived but sure do miss all the trees that once stood.
pretty area Sarah. People pumping gas wow I can't remember the last time I had gas pumped for me. Nice drive along the river to the coast glad you are doing well and enjoying yourself. Take care and give little one an extra snack for me. Bye from me for now. 🖐👌.
I always loved that Oregon had requirements for someone to pump gas. I always got great service and the main thing is that it provides so many jobs for kids.
Can't beat that price-----beautiful campsite---Enjoy the week and keep safe ---Little one looks happy and content----being with Mom---is her calming!!! Be careful and beware of your surroundings!!!
I agree, your safety and lil one's comes first. When i see where there have been forest fires, i can't help but think about the critters that live there and in the trees. 😢😢
My Ex mother in-law would have loved Oregon... just for the full service gas stations. I remember her driving past all of the local self-service stations in town just to get to a full service station out somewhere in the boonies. I didn't even know they still had those places back then in the late 80's. Cool video. I know what you mean about bears. I live in Colorado, so I get nervous about hiking especially when the bears are waking up and when their getting ready to hibernate. Better safe than sorry! Thanks for sharing! 😊
@@FM-yv6lm Don't remember if she tipped them, but I do remember the gas costing almost a dollar more per gallon than they charged at self service station. As a nineteen year old new bride constantly pinching pennies, I couldn't understand wasting all of that extra money. She just didn't like getting out to pump her own gas, I guess. I'm still confused about why she did that. I do wish she was still around.
Another thing is that car registration is much cheaper in Oregon, well, it was cheap when I lived there in the late 90's - $35 per year. Also car insurance was about half of what California prices were. No taxes on anything you buy. One drawback is the price of food in the grocery stores - about 15% higher.
Welcome to Oregon! We are now at our home at Mountaindale Sun Resort for 2 weeks, then back to Serinity Mountian Retreat for 2 weeks, then back and forth. Enjoy our beautiful trees. Bob and pups
Wonderful video! So happy to see your beautiful views! Oregon is on my travel calendar, for sure! Waaaaay back when I got my driver’s license at, age 16, gas stations everywhere pumped gas for you and washed the windshield. They would also check the oil if you needed. Several years later things had changed - I was driving w/hubby in the passenger seat. I got out to pump the gas and he got the dirty looks & comments from other drivers for “allowing her to do that!” You can be sure that I let those busybodies know just how capable I am. Enjoy your time in PNW! Safe travels 🙂
We have an Umpqua bank here in RedBluff Ca lol it is a silly name also coincidence I’m going to Oregon on May 31 to camp at Harris Beach State park yay!!!!!
One of the perks living in OR is not having to pump gas. You may pump your own diesel, and that would be a good idea. I have forgotten how to pump gas since I rarely leave. Welcome and all of OR has something to offer and is quite diverse in scenery.
Oregon is beautiful. I love living in the Pacific Northwest. Enjoy your visit. L.L. Stub Stewart State Park is a great place to camp. It's 5 minutes away from my house and there are showers there.😊
we lost a lot of the forest do to wild fire in Oregon there are a lot of great places to camp i have stayed down that way you will enjoy your road trip i will recommend that you work your way to the ice cave-in Cave junction yes real ice caves i9t is on your way and about 4 hours from Portland threw I 5 there is so much to see just ask be safe
Bear scare the daylights out of me & I've never seen one in nature! Cougars = YIKES! I'd be nervous too. I go solo also, but I think meeting some others there would be a good idea.

I pumped gasoline in 1973. Gas station accidents have skyrocketed since untrained people started pumping explosive fuel. These kind gents are fully trained.
You said Umpqua correctly. You're looking at a small part of the Archie Creek Fire scar from 2020. 130,000 acres. You are actually on the North Umpqua, if you say you're on the Umpqua locals will take that to mean the main Umpqua downstream of Roseburg where the North Umpqua and South Umpqua meet.
Glad you are being careful. More concerned about Washington State. Remember, everything has to drink. So please, not to close to a main water source. In areas with large predators Stay well,
Welcome to Oregon. A few other things about the state: Can't pump your own gas, no sales tax, limits on types of fireworks, and in only Oregon, Idaho and New Jersey semi-trucks can legally pull 3 trailers!
Enjoyed, Sarah, guard dog Little one, probably why they pump your gas , is people driving off without paying or people putting skimmers on gas pumps to steal your information 😊
You have picked an totally beautiful campsite. Oregon is on my bucket list as well in wonderful areas like this. The crime is known only in the larger city's of course . But with you also coming from Miami we are accustomed to it however avoid it at all cost. Please enjoy yourself out there !
Only one bear sighting in the past six months is very re-assuring, its the dozens of bigfoot sightings they won't tell you about, just kidding! But I would definitely carry that bear spray around at all times, just in case, Jeepsy!
Put a cow bell on your Little One it will scare away any bear if they hear it. If you see a cougar scream at the top of your lungs and slowly walk away from the cat. You won't see many cougars near the campsites in Oregon anyway.
Don't worry about the bears sarah worry about the small animals that will get into your food and belongings squirrels chipmunks and raccoons campground pests
That’s for sure. The raccoons are smart and will steal all your food. They know how to open coolers and camping boxes we once had about 3 raccoons get into the back of our car where we were keeping the food. Then there are skunks. On one camping trip a raccoon and a skunk got into a fight in the middle of the night. The skunk sprayed our entire camp site including the tent and the shoes we left outside the tent.
Went back to Missouri some time back and they were doing the same thing there!! Mind you it was some time back, but in the 90’s! What’s more is you could pump your gas, how much you were putting in, then go pay!! 🤯🤯 they don’t have that out here….it was kind of cool.

So sad. The UNF use to be the most beautiful place on earth. I grew up with that forest as my backyard. I cry when I drive to eastern Oregon.
Be very careful lots of creepy crawlers out in the forests even at established camp grounds.
When I was little all of the gas stations did that in Oklahoma and I think all states.

The law prohibiting motorists in Oregon from pumping their own gas (in most regions) goes back to 1951. The law is not popular with many folks. The gas is the same whether you pump it yourself or have an attendant do it. Once you arrive in Vancouver, Washington you can pump your own gas again.

Hell of a view
If your experience is like mine was when I was there in the 90s that same guy also has some weed to sell.
Grab yourself a chunk of obsidian if you can, cool souvenir..
Glass Butte is an entire mountain made from obsidian, It is located on Highway 20 in eastern Oregon between Bend and Burns.
