- Trumpet Vine, I love it but would never recommend it. Grow Campsis grandiflora instead.

I really really love the look of this plant. After reading the comments, I'll keep it in a pot.

I love listening to you talk about your garden. I could listen to you all day 😊
If you bend the stem of a trumpet vine branch, before the flowers are fully developed, you will cut off some of the sap, and the resultant flowers will be smaller and a paler apricot colour. Just a fun observation.
The color of those flowers are spectacular! I planted a "mini" trumpet called Summer Jazz gold about 5 years ago. It's way bigger than the 5x6 feet that was listed on the tag, but much smaller than yours. I cut it back to a stump last year and this year it's simply exploded again. Not sure how I will prune it in the future, but it needs to be tamed. I also planted the same vine in red last summer. So far, it's tiny, but I am nervous about how it will develop.
Any update on your summer jazz?
@@urchinsushi2041 It's doing very well and it's about to bloom again. It's loaded with buds. I do have to watch out for suckers that come up around the plant. I even found one coming through a crack in my neighbor's driveway, so that's not good. It's still manageable, though. Are you growing one too?
@@initiate22000 thank you for the update! I am considering getting one, weighing the pros and cons - but I do tend to my garden and should be able to keep an eye out - where did you get yours?
@@urchinsushi2041 I bought it at a local garden center where I live in Western New York. I always get a bigger plant for less money if I can buy it locally, but I have seen them online, too. Good luck!
I just bought a potted summer jazz. Will keep it in a large pot, and provide some winter protection. Saw one at a garden center trained into a standard….single trunk, umbrella top. Looked lovely, and manageable! Going to do the same with mine, over time.
I have mine in a large pot, at least 24", my trumpet vine its growing up a wooden stake.
I want to grow some for my hummingbirds. I see some down the road and I see pods on it. When can you pull pods off? When can you remove seeds from the pods?
HOW do you control it?? I have one and I am constantly digging up shoots like the ones you show. Are the any other tips???
I used a 25 gallon pot that I put in the ground and covered the drainage holes with a weed barrier fabric.
Crossvine is often a good vine with similar flowers, but not as aggressive.
I just bought two today to put in containers to climb up my pergola . Will it create a wall
On one side. ? Now I’m nervous lolI haven’t planted it yet
Beautiful plant , i have a pink one
Now available ?
I just planted 2, one on my shed and one on my pergola, just maintain it, like most plants,
Is the first and last flower, the red Tecoma Stan?
Love mine, it takes work once it gets going but still better than Asiatic invasive and native wildlife loves it.
I just found some of this growing in the woods behind my house. I pull some of the little one's out at the root and brought them in to put in a pot. My front porch is a hummingbird heaven and plan to grow them in pots next year.
Thank you for such a useful video. Will now plant in a pot!
can you advise what zone you are in and the size of the trumpet vine when you planted it. thanks.
I kill plants that other people rave about being hardy. I'm sentimental about this vine because my childhood home had one. In that neighborhood, you could find them growing up light poles. Now trumpet vines are only found in a few old areas.
I'm currently trying to get some trumpet vine seeds to germinate.
Ebay has plenty
Curious if you got the seeds to germinate. I got some off Amazon and going to try them
They take forever to bloom from seed, instead get a starter or one from a nursery already in bloom.
How do I make trumpet vine to bloom?
Since these are trumpet shaped flowers, I can blow through them like a flattened drinking straw, and it give another meaning to "trump" vine.
C'est une espèce particulièrement invasive que ke déconseille fortement
This is definitely a BAD plant...kill it...never plant it. There are better plants for hummingbirds.
Or keep it in a big pot. The flowers are so beautiful!
Just cut the emerging shoots, problem solved. Nothing bad about it.
