      Chile nothing makes me madder than seeing someone make sweet potato pie with no nutmeg. The ginger I just started using I didn't learn to make it with ginger but I love the flavor it adds. Oh I know what makes me madder dressing with no sage lol

    • @guadalupeblakey9926
      @guadalupeblakey9926 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@YaYa-wn7uj I'm telling you, I got panicky when I couldn't find sage. I heard the couple next to me looking for it too. When I found some (3) I ask them if they needed one, they smile, took two. I apologize too, I know I contributed to the mix up of the items on the shelf. In a way I fault the store there is a better way to display sources.

  • @floydjr31
    @floydjr31 2 ปีที่แล้ว +38

    To get rid of the swirls, I'd recommend adding more liquid but not too thin so you're pouring the mix in the pie crust vs scooping. I would also cook the pie at a lower temperature. This also helps prevent cracks which gives you a smoother finished pie. I know it tastes great either way.

    I’m watching this video in April. So many people think sweet potatoes are for autumn/holidays only. I eat them all year long! They’re just as good in spring and summer as Thanksgiving and Christmas. This is the perfect dessert! Thanks , Camirra, for this recipe to make anytime of the year! (It looks so rich and creamy. 😋)

    That fresh grated nutmeg is LIIIIFE!! It really does make a difference in the taste of your baked goods. Sweet potato is my favorite Thanksgiving dessert. I'm always looking for new recipes. Last year I took two recipes & combined them......them pies were good!!! Your smoothing out method is perfect! I love when the pies have personality (areas that don't smooth out) Another great recipe. Love your spirit & love the commentary. Thank you for sharing

    I usually smash my sweet potatoes then smooth it through a strainer to get the strings out. It comes out so smooth my father thinks that I use canned filling. But I will definitely use this technique, it will take so much pressure off my arms❤️👌🏾

    Hi Camirra, just watched your vedio. A suggestion that I have to smooth out the tops of your pies as well as cake batter is to get a spatula or knife and get you a small cup of water. Keep dipping your utensil in the water everytime you spread your mixture. Works like a charm everytime. Blessings.

    Thank you very much for the recipe and the demonstration. I love pies of all sorts, and I don't limit them to any one season. I'm always ready to try a new (to me, at least) recipe; I grew up in Texas, but away from my extended family, as my parents were among the post- WWII generation that left behind the farm and the extended family after traveling around the world in the service. So I missed out on the extended-family sorts of things I might have learned, including cooking. I love your term, "melanated" - and I'm about as opposite as you can get, being of Scots-Irish/Norwegian/Dutch ancestry (I just LOOK at the sun and burn, it sometimes seems), and I'm grateful to the melanated folks of my acquaintance for preserving and sharing recipes like this one :-)

    Awesome job! This is nearly identical to how I was taught to make. Like you I also break down that string in my Ninja. In Virginia where I am from, we add that same spice combo. Here in South Carolina and other deep south locations I noticed the pies are less about cinnamon and nutmeg and more about 🍋. I prefer that spice with the hint of lemon taste I was raised on.

    As for smoothing out the top of the pie filling, the technique I use to frost and for pie filling to leave them smooth with no swirls is to dip my spatula into water let the access drip off and then glide it on top of the filling as the final touch.
