      Lovely city - to visit during brakes - in short, we agree again.
      I love the ocean and, I love the beach....I do also however, love my freedom to live in the space of anonymity a bigger city provide...not that I dislike all other Europeans but, to end up living close among them when I finally can come down - no thanks! I appreciate my alone-ness and privacy too much..😊 (maybe I have a reason to leave, what I call "the old black continent" - who knows..)
      Have or, will you visit any of the cities in the Amazonas!?
      Thanks for sharing!!

      I do live here, and it's not so much too small but too spread out. Takes forever to get to decent shopping, and the Mercado is tiny. Most shopping is beyond where you shot the video, including into LA libertad.
      It took me a moment to place your Gringo pricing location. I'd been there one time, far too soon after living in Cuenca 2 months. To be sure, hyped up by expats, did not live up to the hype. I'm questioning expats experience with good food and espresso drinks. And yes, thank goodness Sweet and Coffee got here before I did.
      The place in chipipe at the beginning? Opens 4pm. Imagine a coffee spot specifically about coffee, not open in the morning? Who does that lol

    You need to go during March when the weather is hot and the water is warm. You have many people from both the coast and the Highlands hitting the beaches and it gets packed. You have to see whether or not you can also withstand that level of heat because it gets intense

    Thank you For the tren info. Committed to spending my first year in Cuenca. Love it. Taking my first exploratory trip to the coast next week. Salinas to Olon . Next month Manta. Enjoy your vids. Your personality and zest match the Ecuadorian citizens I have come to know here in the mountains. Living in Cuenca has melted away any fears of living in South America. I will venture to the coast with eyes wide open . Just like I would do traveling to the coast in the USA. Thanks again for the valuable content.

    Salinas. Not exactly the rustic, “hippiesh” beach ex-pats tend to like. Montañita used to be such spot. People who choose Salinas choose it for its proximity (Guayaquil & Cuenca people) & for its calm waters which are good for kids. Quito people go to the beaches up north. There were some waves at Salinas while you there because the cold current Humboldt is around. The same current that is making everything cold as in not just the ocean water but the air too. Totally different story in December when El Niño season kicks off. Salinas is a bustling town but it’s seasonal. People usually go there when school is out because they go with the whole family. July & August for sierra people while coastal people’s school is out in March and April.

  • @petertrznadel8107

    The weather on the coast is moderated by an offshore current, the cold Humboldt current. how far or close to the coast it's variable over the year. in june/july when the Whales are migrating past heading south the current is close in. this gives the region a cool cloudy climate here, in the high season from december thru to march the current is further off shore and this allows a warmer close in counter current that brings those blue skies, and a bright all day sunshine, it also brings the rain inland thats why its the high season for the likes of Guayaquil, the locals head for the beaches to get away from the humidity. Even on hazy days anytime of the year the UV can give fierce burns after a short time. renting a carpa or parasol be careful of the suns shadow it moves quickly and your feet peeking out can get serious sunburn.
    One thing about "choclatera" right out on the tip of that penninsula, you are the furthest west you can get on dry land in South America, Not so long ago there was a small plaque there about it on the triangulation station, the small concrete monument thing there.
    The prices are the same for locals too, the prices reflect that the tourist high season is seasonal at mainly weekends, many weekends the place starts closing down on sunday afternoon, as the weekenders head back to Guayaquil. come Monday the place is virtually abandoned, as even the resturant operators have gone to their weekday jobs. Many times having decided to return to Guayaquil on the monday morning, Ive had to pay up on the sunday, and let myself out of a hostel monday morning. just a security guard/cleaner in atendance.

    • @TheYarbros
      @TheYarbros  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, but a lot of locals don't generally pay that price they know the regular good spots to go to. Those are the spots that I would like to find. Places where the people that live there regularly dine, some cool and inexpensive places. away from the strip. Regarding the weather patterns thanks for the information. I still wish we could have timed it a bit better but all is well and we are enjoying the daily flow of Salinas.

  • @gabriellehollis9081

    • @TheYarbros

      That's not an average restaurant tho, it is a bit in that neighborhood which is popular with expats but also locals. Many locals or from the city are pretty wealthy. There are fortunately many places with reasonable pricing. You may have to dig a little to find them 😉 and walk a bit farther. But even so, prices will be higher than cuenca, tho 2.50 to 3.00 vs 3.50 to 4 for full almuerzas? Not going to complain
