You got most of it right, she is an immortal locked away by humans in the beginning of her life. She doesn't think the outside world wants her, so she doesn't do anything to get out. She instead escapes into her dreams and tries to be happy there. She is afraid to wake up because then she will be alone again. I recommend watching the teaser as well, it uses great technique on telling how she got locked away and her mental state.
It’s not that she doesn’t do anything to get out, she literally can’t get out. You said it yourself that she’s locked away. Now I don’t think she was trying to escape reality either since Nahida’s constantly helping the people of Sumeru by connecting herself to them via Akasha. But yes you are correct that she’s fears that her own existence is not necessary.

I forgot if it's first or second part of AQ but when the Traveler suggested some options to manipulate that desert folk woman under the Sages, Nahida said she can't just do those things bcs the Sages will "punish" the people if they so much smell that Nahida do something against their plan. Before Traveler arrived she tried to help as much as she can without alerting the Akademiya bcs she's afraid for her ppl. Even if she can break out of the prison, she can't fight it all bcs the combined knowledge of the Sages and Akasha system are too much for her to take on her own while ensuring the safety of her ppl. At the very least she needed to take down the Akasha system so Akademiya wouldn't hold her ppl hostage against her.
The character teaser of Nahida actually made me cry, you should check them out they give more lore/story-based stuff and are just as beautiful to watch.
The teaser is great, but more spoilery for story elements only hinted at in the demo. You may want to wait until you’ve completed the first 3 acts of the Sumeru archon quest.
@@careycoombs6274 I watched it before getting there, it doesn't spoil anything. It just got me curious and impatient to get to Sumeru. Without context, you don't understand the teasers much. Zhongli for example is litterally just him buying stuff, nothing hints at him being Morax. Raiden's hint at the vision hunt decree and that's about it. But hey, to each their own.
The current lore of Genshin has a more serious and darker vibe to it beneath all of the joy and positivity. Even the side quests speak in depth of death, slaughter and murder which is definitely something new, adding a more mature layer. Nahida as a character and everything about her shows that really well, which you already guessed !!
Yeah, Nahida being one of the darkest characters in lore with a heartbreaking story is probably not "going for a younger audience". On the other hand she is easily the best written character with the best overall story. Ont op of it she is pretty badass. Such a great character.

I like how you caught onto dreams and her being old, because she is a God over 500 years old and she is stuck in a dream that repeats itself over and over for all her life until we free her in the game
It feels so satisfying to see you analyse a video game from a cinematic perspective. I personally believe a video game is a convergence of several art forms 2d art, 3d art, cinematography, sound design, music design, storytelling etc. And all the art forms are held together by the glue, programming. It's just my opinion. Thank you very much for making those videos
His interpretation of nahida actually sounds like a pretty cool concept. Imagine if instead of being locked up by the sages, nahida locked herself up to slowly discover and study irminsul for whatever reason, possibly even forgetting why shes even in her dream world so she doesnt notice how the sages is commiting those crimes, that would maybe match with what dain said in the trailer.
Tbf that's kinda like Ei, no? She locked herself away to pursue eternity first and then the eternity for Inazuma, and unbeknownst to her, the Fatui are taking advantage of the fact it's not actually her who's present in Inazuma but a puppet.
I highly recommend Nahida's character teaser. That teaser speaks volumes while barely saying anything directly to us. And speaking of hiccups in the Matrix, Wanderer's demo also has a few glitchy moments for lore reasons, some of which you don't really notice at first because it's illustrated with screen tearing and artefacting, especially when he grabs the big guy by the throat and flies into the air with him.
this reaction just shows that they take time to create story, convey feelings from the film, the music cause what you say is spot on, she literally is trapped, she's an archon/ a god the genshin anime now sounds promising and I hope the story and everything is good

The shape of the pupil doesn't usually have any clear connection to the character's lore (it doesn't even indicate their race, humans have different pupils too, like Keqing, Hutao, etc), with one exception. All characters with pupils in the form of a four pointed star are from the same nation (either directly or descendants) - Khaenri'ah.
Now, after you have finished watching her trailer Phil, you can watch her teaser with more context and appreciation. Can't wait for you to watch her teaser and many other amazing teasers of Genshin.
I just notice, Nahida has a chain pattern in the chest going to his neck... that's a mayor thing for her story.... she is locked away, but not by choice, she was locked when born and use her powers to travel through people's dreams and helps them that way, unnoticed..
Loved this! It was so funny to me when you said they are going for child friendlyness with Nahida, since she has the most tragic and depressing lore behind her so far. For the next one, I really suggest Nahida's teaser, Happy birthday.
React to her other trailer too! I'm not sure there's as much cinematically but these two trailers made me want to wish on her and have her on my team no matter what. Nahida is simultaneously one of Genshin's most pure/bright characters and also one of the most dark/deep characters in terms of backstory and lore. I absolutely love her. I've never wanted to protect a character more badly than I wanted to protect Nahida. Also, her skill requires you to actually "frame" the enemies while long holding the skill button. Totally in line with her framing with her fingers in the cinematic trailer.
You should react to Nahida's trailer, the "Happy birthday" one. There's more lore in the trailers than in the demo. (Wanderer and Tartaglia's demos vs trailers give more depth to their characters) If you want another game, try FFXV "Omen" trailer
That blue stingray only exists in enkanomiya realm, so it might be telling something about nahida knew about the early incident regarding the primodial one

One small point of constructive criticism: I tend to like it more when you watch the whole video once through then go back and analyze the video bit by bit. The constant start and stop in the beginning I felt took away from the experience a bit. But regardless love watching your stuff and you should definitely watch her teaser video!! Its also such a fantastic video and is a masterclass in script writing and acting tone if you ask me.
2:38, on the bottom left corner there is usually a bit of info on every character. Some will be very vague while some will just tell their profession. I think reading that would help provide some insight into the characters. Especially with what it said about nahida

I swear of all the trailer Hoyoverse showed us so far, this is the only one that almost make me cry I feel so bad for her she doesn't deserve what happened to her.
Hm. Don't want to spoil anything, so there's a limit to how much context I can give you. You're generally right, although in Nahida's case "living in a dream" doesn't equate "not living in reality". There's certainly something very wrong here, though at the moment I couldn't tell you with certainty just who or what's responsible or the actual reasons it happened, and I can say pretty much nobody in the setting would know the truth there either right now. And the story at the time her trailer came out made her situation a lot worse fairly quickly, which is symbolically reflected over the course of the trailer itself. Also, her trailer came out before both the Wanderer's and Alhaitham's, and I believe in different ways influenced both - she certainly influenced both characters before their trailers were released and I think I can see ways this influence gets reflected in the actual trailers, though it's mostly very debatable. (Except for the bird in the Wanderer's trailer; while the motif of briefly attracting birds is common with his family, not only has that type of bird been an outright representation of Nahida at other points but his reactions to it too closely echo his feelings towards her at this point.) Oh, and the "camera gesture": you might not have run into them yet while playing, but alchemy-based cameras do exist in this setting and I don't doubt she could tell you every detail of how to build the most advanced models. It's also notable that while Nahida's body language is clearly modeled after child's play, it's also oddly reminiscent of using a keyboard with her feet and mouse gestures with her hands - and I don't think that's entirely a coincidence given the nature of her abilities. (It also happens to echo a Jojo's Bizarre Adventure thing, but that's more common sources than direct influence.)
Her eyes didn’t really show a lot of fear from what I was seeing. One, her eyes were glowing ever so brightly because of the reflection. Two, the music was still calm and beautiful with no eerie vibe to it. But you’re still not completely wrong since there’s a lot of lore behind the depressed ending.
You're close with the eye thing if you look at the right time you can see she the different dreams she had a moment ago in reflection of her eyes. And then she reaches out to return to those happy memories.
Your analysis is apt. She can enter the dreams of other children while she sleeps and feel their naïve imagination. The final scene is that as morning comes, the children wake up, and she returns to her dream(A swing surrounded by imaginary friends), and wakes up with her. The bird's shadow is a testament to the morning and highlights the reality of her being under house arrest
You are right that she is old. She is dendro archon and 500 years old. But she didn't sealed herself. She has been imprisoned for the passed 500 years. Her only connection with outside world was dream of her people.

Some directing points - The montage is imagining a utopia, what she dreams or the potential she sees in reality - the birds shadows in the end is a glimpse of freedom - there is a heavy motif of children: hop scotch, the singing, even her appearance because the Suneru quest has a loose theme about youth and sorta undermining youth and wisdom
Yes and no, she IS fascinated by the dreams, but it's also a look of deep sadness just before returning to reality and opening her eyes in the dark and lonely truth
Hoyoverse always know how to satisfy players and they are going to be a film making company like some 'R***' game studio :))) Btw you should check for the cinematic of Honkai Impact 3rd, which is Genshin's sister. That's a really good game with interesting lore and the evolution of animation
Have you looked into Honkai Impact content? While most would ask you to react to the story animations, I'd like to see your expertise put to use viewing the actual trailers and teaser animations. In particular, the Preview of the Part 1 Finale is one I would recommend, given that I haven't seen any professionals look at it yet.

Hey man, great content as always. If you like Genshin, check out the company's prior game, Honkai impact 3rd. They have some amazing animations which are cutscenes for the game.
Ok so let me sum things up. Nahida is the Goddess of Dendro, the life element. She is the avatar of the Tree of Irminsul, a collection of memories and data on the history and specifications of every single being that belong to the world, living or inorganic, as well as the events experienced by them that takes the shape of a white tree. Much like you thought she is 500 years old, but she is still considered a child as far as gods are concerned. She is also the reincarnation of the old Goddess of Dendro, who made sure to prune the purest and most pristine Branch of Irminsul, to make sure that her reincarnation wouldn't have any of her memories. For story reasons, obviously. Nahida is unique among the 7 archons in that unlike the other archons she is actually being abused and neglected by her own subjects. She spends most of her time like a caged bird, which is why both this demo and her teaser have very dark tones underneath them.
Technically speaking, Nahida is a _cutting_ of her predecessor, which specifically refers to a particular type of cloning process for trees. You can also argue that she is technically an AI.
They gave her a different archon treatment, each archon has like a super crazy and wild trailer, Nahida’s was much more calm but it still shows you that she is being given a special treatment in the demo

To be fair, Nahida IS the youngest of the arcons. And to her kind she is very very young. Not even a milenium yet

Her teaser would be interesting also the sumeru promotional video since you reacted to a few of the sumeru characters
So she is locked up yes, but physically and mentay against her wishes. Some directing points
- The montage is imagining a utopia, what she dreams or the potential she sees in reality
- the birds shadows in the end is a glimpse of freedom
- there is a heavy motif of children: hop scotch, the singing, even her appearance because the Suneru quest has a loose theme about youth and sorta undermining youth and wisdom

Btw you should check for the cinematic of Honkai Impact 3rd, which is Genshin's sister. That's a really good game with interesting lore and the evolution of animation

Have you looked into Honkai Impact content? While most would ask you to react to the story animations, I'd like to see your expertise put to use viewing the actual trailers and teaser animations. In particular, the Preview of the Part 1 Finale is one I would recommend, given that I haven't seen any professionals look at it yet.

Ok so let me sum things up.
Nahida is the Goddess of Dendro, the life element.
She is the avatar of the Tree of Irminsul, a collection of memories and data on the history and specifications of every single being that belong to the world, living or inorganic, as well as the events experienced by them that takes the shape of a white tree.
Much like you thought she is 500 years old, but she is still considered a child as far as gods are concerned.
She is also the reincarnation of the old Goddess of Dendro, who made sure to prune the purest and most pristine Branch of Irminsul, to make sure that her reincarnation wouldn't have any of her memories.
For story reasons, obviously.
Nahida is unique among the 7 archons in that unlike the other archons she is actually being abused and neglected by her own subjects. She spends most of her time like a caged bird, which is why both this demo and her teaser have very dark tones underneath them.
Technically speaking, Nahida is a _cutting_ of her predecessor, which specifically refers to a particular type of cloning process for trees.
You can also argue that she is technically an AI.

They gave her a different archon treatment, each archon has like a super crazy and wild trailer, Nahida’s was much more calm but it still shows you that she is being given a special treatment in the demo
