    I won one of these in .25-06 at a Whitetails Unlimited Deer Camp. I put a Leupold picatinny rail, Leupold scope rings, and a Riton 6-24x50 scope on it. Total tackdriver! Scope and mounting hardware make a huge difference. Don’t scrimp in this area. And generally speaking, rifle and scope packages come with cheap scopes.

    • @Upnorthoutfitters
      @Upnorthoutfitters  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Absolutely I always feel like I need to give it a chance but I have never gotten a combo that was on point like I set it up myself probably made more cheaply for the contract or something

    • @JimmyDickens1

      I think you are right. I bought my daughter a REM 700 in .243 rifle/scope package. One morning while deer hunting, she complained the scope was hard to see through. I thought we was just complaining until I looked through it. Holy cow! She was right, the factory scope sucked in low-light (dawn and dusk). So I replaced the whole set up with Leupold rings and a Leupold VX-1 scope. Made a world of difference. She harvested her first deer with it.
      Thanks for your review. You did a great job!

    Seems like hit or miss with the Patriot. You either get one that's a tack driver making groupings less than half MOA, or you get one that's 3 MOA or worse.

      Yup I’m really on the fence about this one on Sunday the scope slipped again after only 40 rounds I’m going to replace the mounting rings I have a feeling they are cheep crap that can’t stand up to a 06

      I'm in the garbage group. My 300 will flnot shoot 3 rounds in less than a 10 in group unless you wait 3-5 mins between shots. In a hunting scenario that is unacceptable.

    • @dj3114

      My neighbo-r has one is 30-06 - it's far worse than 3 MOA. From what I saw, he'd be lucky to hit a milk jug in 3 shots at 100. He doesn't see it yet, blaming this or that, and I don't have the heart to tell him he has 30-06 Shotgun.

    Call Mossberg about the broken mag well, they should replace it, I have also heard that these Mossberg 30.06 and 308 with their 1:10 rifling prefer the heavier bullets, you might try 180 grain bullets also.
    Put some Loctite on all your screw threads.

    • @Upnorthoutfitters
      @Upnorthoutfitters  ปีที่แล้ว

      Always with the loctite 414 and I will I had an idea about getting one and having one copied out of aluminum and also changing to wood furniture so I can improve the fit and function ( side note they mounted the scope really bad rings all the way out tight to where it flares out )

    Great video and honest review. I have the same rifle in 270 I didn't know about the mag issue or scope rings so I will check mine. So far its dropped a 5 point elk and 5 point white tail where they stood at 150 yards. They shoot when they are dialed in.

I actually just put up a follow up video where I got everything fixed and I’m sure that the scope I got is defective it’s not true to the 1/4 Moa clicks I eventually did get it sighted in but it did take extra ammo with one click equal in an inch and the next equals three I will be changing out the scope for actual hunting use

      And regardless of that at 100 yards, I think 250 was the max that I shot in that video with a 30-06 your only looking at a couple inches of difference not consistent with the results that I was saying but Mossberg is an American company so you go ahead and buy one and I honestly hope that you get a good one. They just came out with a new version of it this year the old version and the new version are great or a savage axis the only issue I have with those is the steel tends to rust easier than most so if you get one of those, just keep it oiled, I hope that helps

    You either get a tack driver or a lemon. that is just how it is, My 06 patriot is pillar bedded and action bedded, better scope and rings, as well as a bedded scope base and lapped rings. With ANY loading, the first shot will be accurate enough to split a playing card, after an hour the next shot MIGHT hit close to the first. Cold bore is wicked accurate. try to shoot a group, enjoy 3 MOA with even handloads.. I have came to the conclusion that some of these the barrels/rifling is just shit. MY buddys on the other hand, also a 30-06, is a freakin tack driver with any ammo. My dude shoots 1/2 MOA with any damn softpoint and a cheap centerpoint scope. I was piseed the first time I seen him shoot 180 gr core loct's in a 1/2 inch 5 shot group at 100, was about to just toss mine in the trashcan at the range LOL He said "man, your face is pretty red".
