"My Dad sent me this article on what's it's like flying Southwest to Hawaii....and it's a pretty good article...You've just got to check-in early; make sure you get anything before like B30...
So we're bringing tuna packets, which maybe we'll eat at the gate, instead of on the plane, since they smell so much...I might just get something at the airport. Alright. lol...but then I also made those granola bars. Yeah. So we will have granola bars. Yep...
Out of all the cons in this article, landing in Concourse E actually seemed to be the most significant...upon further inspection, we've discovered some other news regarding Concourse E, Terminal 2...It seems like there is a good chance we are bed bug free, but to be on the safe side...when we were back on the mainland, that night, we kept all our stuff outside the house, stripped down to our undergarments, and immediately took a hot shower...The next morning, we took the stuff from the garage, and bagged it up to cook in the hot sun. So far, so good. I'm thinking this will suffice. lol.
...but you know what, it' cheap....Yeah. So that's about it. Yeah. Not much different than a normal flight with Southwest."

We love that we can choose our seats, can use the WiFi, staff is friendlier, you can sit with your whole group and can have a check in party to all get on together etc. If your friends are laughing at you then those really aren’t your friends but yes I’d rather save my money for something awesome I mean I do love flying 1st as well but hey you do what’s best for you. Thanks for this video and hope it was awesome and I can’t wait to go

Exactly. It is what is it...and it gives you an excuse to have a check-in party! I love that! Plus, the staff is definitely funnier. I can't wait for you to go as well; it truly is an awesome place

One thing to note, Southwest Interisland flights also arrive and depart out of the E gates

Thanks for making this video. We are flying to Maui out of LAX this summer (coming from Virginia Beach, Va) Actually ORF-BWI-LAX-OGG. I’ve never flown this far before with so many flight changes, there’s 4 of us and we couldn’t afford to upgrade everyone’s fare for guaranteed early check in so I’m nervous about that. We do not fly often or this far so we kinda want to sit together especially the long open water flight (yikes!). We prefer SWA because of their affordable rates, free bags and on time reputation. Thanks for the helpful tips about bringing a device, headphones, food, and power bank!

Hello @1mama402 I'm so happy you enjoyed the video, and I'm glad it was helpful. I hope you all have a great summer trip in Maui! I don't know how much time you have in between your connections, but it sounds like trying to get off the plane quickly, and double checking the gate number for your connecting flights, might make it less nerve-racking (that and over the counter Dramamine!). I would recommend your family and you check-in for your Southwest flight(s) the minute it becomes available (like literally have the screen pulled up and ready a couple minutes beforehand! lol). That way when you board, you'll have more options for seats up front...so you can get off the plane ASAP to make your connection...and even if you do end up with boarding group B or C, you can probably find seats closer up front (passengers tend to spread out leaving empty middle seats in the front). It's probably going to be a full flight, so I would just take the first empty seat you see! (I hope you all get to sit together though). Mahalo!

@@alyssabcrawford wonderful advice, thanks so much! We have 50 mins between the first connection (ORF to BWI) and unfortunately about 7-8 hours between the last connection. (LAX to OGG). We will be sleeping on a floor somewhere in LAX. Lol

This was helpful! We’ll be heading to Maui in a few months and I hate not being able to pick my seats lol. But also not willing to pay double to board early. Might splurge for early check-in.. maybe. What did you guys do in Maui? I’m trying to build our itinerary!

Thank you, Ana! I see what you're saying about the seats. We checked-in for our flight the minute it became available and were able to get seats in the middle of the B group. I actually kind of like the flexibility with the seats on Southwest, though! For instance, one time this lady with really strong perfume sat next to me, and since the seats weren't assigned, I was able to move around and find a different seat lol. So far as a Maui itinerary goes, I have yet to visit that island, but I hear Aunty Sany's banana bread and Black Sand Beach are must stop destinations along the Hana Hwy. I hope that helps, Ana. Mahalo!!!

Thanks, girl! Southwest gets a bad rep sometimes, but I think they still have one of the best rewards programs!
