I love when James Stewart looks at Harry Carey. Jeff Smith felt defeated and all he needed was some inspiration from a nod and a smile from someone on the floor that believes in him, knew those telegrams were a lie, and to keep going.
This was the first time, as a kid, I became of Harry Carey sitting there doing so little and saying less yet managing such a huge effect. I later came to love him especially as what Ford called the "bright star of the early Western sky" but this was possibly his finest hour
I cried when he passed out and then all I wanted was for Mr. Smith to be alive because James Stewart was such a great actor and he played the character with such depth.
"You people don't know about lost causes. Mr. Paine does. And he fought for them once. For the only reason any man fights for them. Because of one plain simple rule. Love thy neighbor."
I still think that Jimmy Stewart should've won the Oscar for best actor;this was the film that made him a bonafide movie star and he gave one hell of a remarkable performance here;R.I.P.,James Stewart...aw,shucks!
All the people here who got to watch this movie as a school assignment are lucky. When I was in high school I was never shown any real classics like these.
One of the best scenes about politics and corruption that speaks to us who all bought into the American ideal. We flail about and can't stop the jerks from corrupting good ideals, even the Founding Fathers were push & shove, its amazing it worked as long as it has with the idiots we have in charge.
I watched this movie when my bro got back from the army a few weeks ago, it was even better then I remember :) they don't make them like this anymore. Its the sort of movie that's not action packed but you could just sit in the living room and watch it for the entire thing and not get bored lol even the side characters are funny and not annoying lol movies didn't need to have half naked chicks in it to be cool back then XD Mr smith is bad ass
Don`t know this movie but getting interesting ... so hope to find it and will watch the movie in its entirety, if possible ... Thanks Jimmy for this share ... greetings ... ♥~NorthStar~♫♥
@theotherguy245689 That's a very fair point and I agree with you. We need the same term limits on senators and house members as we do on the President. 8 Years in the job max.
@EvilRadiatedMonkey Indeed and watching this movie and learning how the government worked made sad how rare it is to see a Good Honest American in Congress
This is one movie I think Kapra would have wished people watched for free instead of being used as part of the movie company's extortion racket. I think he was above the greed that movies are all about today. As a matter of fact I KNOW it. I've got one of his "Why We Fight" DVDs. Inside I tucked an article from Imprimis: Frank Capra's America and Ours by John Marini. Everybody should read it and get a reality check when it comes to the greedy scum who are blocking the old classics on You Tube. They oughta be shot. This is what Capra said: "practically all the Hollywood film-making of today is stooping to cheap salacious pornography in a crazy bastardization of a great art to compete for the 'patronage' of deviates".
my son knows this is exactly like on those stupid muppet babies till satellite tv struck it a year later with the undertaker to finish it off reviving his real graveyard theme from survivor series there in 1995 with that scary druid like look transforming dennis knight into mideon for almost 20 year he gets it
speaking of the national debt, other then the civvies here, who else do we owe cash too? also, how the hell are other countries gonna collect on that debt?
How is the U.S. political system portrayed in Mr. Smith Goes to Washington? Does the story present the system in an unfavorable light, or does it demonstrate that democracy, while not perfect, works? What differences do you perceive in the system as it was in 1939 and how it is now?
@Broadwaymungo well you could say it has the same spirit, i agree with that, but the whole political machine mess is sort democrat depending on how you view it
Love this movie! Love Jimmy! Neat blog talking about him and the classic era ... especially It's a Wonderful life ... search bedfordfallssentinel.blogspot
One of the most brilliant scenes in the history of cinema
Amen to that! An outstanding movie and script!
That smile. "Don't quit now kid. I believe in you, keep going." in a nod and a smile.
I love when James Stewart looks at Harry Carey. Jeff Smith felt defeated and all he needed was some inspiration from a nod and a smile from someone on the floor that believes in him, knew those telegrams were a lie, and to keep going.
One of the best actors who ever lived.
They were Trump's Tweets.

The lying media. Just like today!
@@WolfGratz Favorite moment in this film. Our most powerful words need not be spoken.

"You people don't know about lost causes. Mr. Paine does. And he fought for them once. For the only reason any man fights for them. Because of one plain simple rule.

Amen!
Yes! Amen.
If anyone dos not know, Mr Smith is quoting Jesus.
I KNOW that feeling. I'm not ready to give up yet! Lost cause are the ONLY causes worth FIGHTING for! I WILL!
Lost Causes; can be the greatest and most noble things to fight for!
James Stewart was and still is...amazing.
James Stewart is so handsome. Wow...God sure makes His beautiful people.
Film making at its very best. Among the greatest performances on film.
"Yes, you even die for them. Like a man we both knew, Mr. Payne." It's 2022 and it rings truer than ever.

I teared up when she cried, "stop jeff, stop!"
One of the greatest movies of all time
Somebody needs to care. That's the one who fights when others won't.
One of the best scenes in movie history.....I havent seen the whole movie But I will soon and I cant wait
My absolute favorite Stewart film. I love this movie so much, this scene especially.
Democracy at it's finest.
Exactly!
Vow thanks - I just love that fight he puts up. Its so awe inspiring.

Genius work...
James Stewart, goddamnit!!
I SECOND THAT MOTION WITH A VENGENCE!!!
awesome scene from a man who had no acting training at all. Jimmy your'e the best!
Omg how after almost 90 years can these words still be relevant, but they are
I can't watch this and not cry...
good movie
0 dislikes? That's still too many.
@NorthStar618 "Mr. smith goes to washington". if you haven't found it by now keep looking; it's well worth the effort.
I think this is Jimmy's best performance
also had to watch it for my high school government class and thought it was excellent
@CassaStarfire thank God you're watching this for a government class. Government is so screwed up nowadays, everybody needs to watch this movie
I wish Mr. Smith was alive! He would be the best president ever!!
@CassaStarfire You're DAMN RIGHT!!
still relevant today
❤️
@EvilRadiatedMonkey Indeed and watching this movie and learning how the government worked made sad how rare it is to see a Good Honest American in Congress
Too late, Paine realized he had compromised just a little too much.
Aye, when he compromised himself.
This reminds me of me looking at craigslist's casual encounter's section and seeing nothing but spam.
due thank you i have to do an essay about htis movie and to be onest i falled asleep
If you're failing school, I can see why.
Yield this Senator Payne.
faints. LIKE A BOSS
Reenacted irl by Rand Paul! ...and it still might be a lost cause, but it was a spot of defiance and hope for this country. #StandWithRand
You mean reenacted by Barry Goldwater ... the original Mr. Smith.
He's been running since the 1970's. I'm pretty sure you can give up safely now.
You don't get sincere acting like this anymore.

Statesmanship
@CassaStarfire I had to watch this in school, too.
I'm a republican but I still say this movies awesome
theotherguy245689
Jimmy Stewart was a conservative though.
Reminds me of Colin Farrel
I think we need a another Mr Smith......But would HumANS listen today?
He came and they didn't appreciate him!
Bernie Sanders channeling his inner Mr. Smith.
Aren't you the fucking fool!!!!!!!!!!!!
Bernie Sanders is a terrible example of holding a 24 hour plus filibuster.
Ted Cruz did it. When no one else would stand, Ted did.
This scene made me wibble. ;___;
well, he IS a lost cause.
my son knows this is exactly like on those stupid muppet babies till satellite tv struck it a year later with the undertaker to finish it off reviving his real graveyard theme from survivor series there in 1995 with that scary druid like look transforming dennis knight into mideon for almost 20 year he gets it
@AgentPenguino007
Wibble is not a word damnit.
it's too bad you did not finish the scene, the best part is missing
This is full Ron Paul
speaking of the national debt, other then the civvies here, who else do we owe cash too? also, how the hell are other countries gonna collect on that debt?
I'm the president of the United States, I demand to know what is going on?!
20th century fillabuster

wtf this isn't the full ending
Jessica Chastain.
No, Matt Damon's no James Stewart.
Trump and Ryan should be forced to watch this movie. They are dismantling all we hold dear.
Barbara Hobens
As if Clinton and Bernie aint crooked.
Trump is Biff from Back to the Future Part II, not Mr. Smith.
@Broadwaymungo well you could say it has the same spirit, i agree with that, but the whole political machine mess is sort democrat depending on how you view it

Jimmy Stewart was a conservative, and so were most of his Hollywood friends (i.e. John Wayne).
@@SwaggerNauts365 Yes indeed! Could that be why he could play Mr Smith so passionately?
@theotherguy245689 This movie is the embodiment of Reagan Conservatism.
