Advaita Vedanta - Non Duality Explained

  • Advait Vedant is a school of Hindu philosophy that teaches non-duality or the absence of a separation between the subject and object. This philosophy is based on the Upanishads and commentaries by eminent scholars like Gaudapada and Sri Adi Shankaracharya. Dvaita means duality, while Advait means non-duality. In simpler terms, Advait means the absence of separation between the subject and object. We experience duality in our everyday lives but in deep sleep only nonduality.

"Studying Advaita Vedanta has completely transformed my understanding of spirituality and the nature of reality. The teachings of Advaita emphasize that we are all fundamentally one consciousness, and that our sense of individuality is an illusion. This insight has brought me so much peace and freedom, as I no longer feel like I am separate from the world around me. I highly recommend exploring this philosophy, whether through reading, attending satsangs, or watching talks by teachers like Acharya Prashant. It has the potential to change your life in the most profound way."

What if it was both at the same time as you are an individual expression of collective consciousness meaning that each person might be a heart cell or a skin cell or a brain cell, each one is very significant to the total functioning of the being but its clear that the heart cell and the brain cell are very specialized and more important than the skin cell, they all function together in unity while only being superficially separated. Those who forget god, god makes them forget themselves.

Yes as a Buddhist, Advaita Vedanta makes sense. Once we lose our identity with the body, mind, ego and ultimately self, which is also what Buddha taught, we realise that all are one. The oneness of everything is what all these sages, rishis and enlightened beings realised.

vaasudeva para yoga vaasudeva Paraa kriyaaha

They are just in Love With him.
The problem with everyone is we follow the scriptures like vedas and we try to make a literal sense and understanding out of it as to who is who.
The way to self realization in this age of KaliYuga is Love towards God(Bhakthi), UNCONDITIONAL LOVE WITHOUT ANY EXPECTATION MATERALISTICALLY BUT WITH AN EXPECTATION OF MOKSHA.

The Rig Veda has 10,552 mantras grouped into 1028 suktas or hymns each having roughly ten mantras.
The suktas are further grouped into 10 mandalas.
Rig veda has only Rik mantras which have a metrical structure. Of these 2456 mantras are in the well known Gayatri meter ( The popular Gayatri mantra is also in this meter).
As per Shri Aurobindo Ghosh , Rik is the mantra of divine consciousness. Its brings its light of revelation.
There are around 400 rishis in the rig veda of whom atleast 25 are women.
The Yajur Veda primarily consists of Yajus mantras which are rhythmic phrases not set to any particular meter ( Unlike Rig Veda)
The popular Taittiriya Samhita of Krishna Yajur Veda has around 4773 mantras , of which around 2/3 rd are yajus mantras ( rest are Riks)
The Yajur Veda deals with Yajna or rituals to appease devatas
The Sama Veda consists of Riks with the added dimension of music.
The Atharva veda has 5987 mantras grouped into 730 suktas and 20 Kandas ( Chapters)
Most of the mantras were revealed to the lineage of Rishis Atharva and Angirasa.
It contains knowledge of healing, construction (Vastu) and societal conduct amongst others

In Shikshavalli of Taittiriya upanishad it is mentioned that when chanting a vedic mantra four factors must be taken care of when chanting a syllable
      These are
1.Varna (Syllable) - Every syllable must be correctly pronounced.
      2. Svara ( Accent) - Each syllable must be pronounced with one of the three accents namely udaata, Anudaata and Svarita
      3. Matra(Duration) - Each syllable must be chanted for the proper time duration.
There are 4 time durations namely hrasva,Deergha,Plutam and ardha maatra.
      4. Balam (Effort) - Each syllable must be pronounced with appropriate force.
Hence we must take care to listen and chant a vedic mantra correctly (Any non mantra like shlokas , 108 names etc. can be sung in any manner)
After chanting the mantra, we need to observe where our mind has been.
If the recitation is perfect but the mind has been involved in thoughts of office, an individual etc , the results experienced will be minimal.
If we give our full attention to the meaning/deity of the mantra during recitation, better results will flow.
      Thanks.

The upanishads which are a part of Vedas declare that there is only One and to realize this Oneness of all life is the ultimate purpose of life.
Every moment we breath, nature reminds us of this truth as each incoming breath resonates to Sah referring to He and outgoing breath to Ham referring to I (The Sanskrit words are split as Sah and Aham and its conjuction is Soham)
Every time we breath , we can tune ourselves to this ultimate reality of Oneness by remembering Soham.
This is called Ajapa Gayatri and is on an average chanted 21600 times in a day
Sah represents Parvati as it is the incoming , introverted energy denoting creation and Ham represents Shankara , the outgoing , masculine energy denoting dissolution.
Thus the masculine and feminine , Shiva and Parvati , together denote completion of life.
The Yoga Chudamani Upanishad mentions that this eternal chant is itself capable of giving salvation upon constant attention and reflection.
    Thanks.

Dualism or dichotomizes are present here to allow growth through the experience of change past future, hot cold, good bad, silence sound, dichotomies that paradoxically are opposites that cannot exist without the other, eg, what do you call good without bad. The one is all even nothing, eternity cannot exist without finite time and space...as drops of mist above the ocean, we experience life to understand change, as with the reemergence of this drop back in into the ocean, we too will return to eternity, the one truth, love ❣️

Just like animals have instinct to hunt, we should have been embedded with the instinct to get enlightened without thinking everything as separate or dual. Why were we born in the first life and why did we do our first sin so we are now bound to the cycle of birth and rebirth? Why did we come initially before creation from the enlightened world to this material world only to get entangled in milion lifetimes here again and again…why are we already no liberated

This Māyāvāda philosophy is nothing but a misinterpretation of the Vedas propagated by Lord Shiva Himself, in the form of Sripada Shankaracharya to mislead the atheistic crowd (followers of Lord Buddha)
      .
      .
Reality is the philosophy of Achintya-bhedabheda-tattva, propagated by The Supreme Lord Krishna Himself ,which refers to the inconceivable oneness and difference of the Supreme Person and His energies.
      - There is one Supreme Personality of Godhead, and we are His Part and Parcels, and this material world is His energy. Hence everything is real and not an illusion. Although the material world can be understood as temporary.
      - The Vedic injunction is that the Supreme Person is spread all over the cosmic manifestation by His energy. This energy is spiritual, but because it acts in the material world it is called maya, or illusory energy.
      - The Absolute Truth is understood in three phases-impersonal, localized, and as the Supreme Person. The Supreme Person's impersonal feature, brahman, is subordinate to His aspect, as the sun's rays are subordinate to the sun itself.
      - The perfection of Life is not to merge back to that Absolute Truth, but, to return to the Spiritual Abode.

The last part is incorrect. Light is relative, while darkness is not. Light will die out when the suns die, while darkness will always be and always was. Darkness is the truth, or rather, what it represents-namely that which is unborn and undying. It’s not a matter of perspective, hence why it is the truth for all and for all time. The difference between a fact and the truth is that a fact is relative, while the truth is absolute. The truth is singular, not plural. One truth, one being, one life-for all eternity.

Wahi jo aatma apne aap ko pehchan gyi aapne ko iss maya se dur iss bhautikta se dur le gyi vo apne wastavik swaroop ko janti hai aur brham ban jati hai
Isliye jab hum mansuya ya pashu rup me hai hum jeevatma kahe jate hain kyuki hum vo brham hai jo maya me hai
Par jab ye hi aatma iss maya se nikal jati hai vo brham hai

@Mr. Anonymous as a philosophy Advaita came very late before buddha sankhya and all were in more progress.
Even Advaita didn't made its place for long enough.
The fact is people read philosophies only but one must read the history surrounding that philosphies first this helps you to understand philosphies and the reason behind them.

@Mr. Anonymous vedas are but vedas don't hold sectarian views.
About the truth well all the philosophies holds some truth. A mixture of them is what the truest form you can have.
Lastly well all the philosophies were proven right/wrong by others. Ramanujacharya ji refuted Advaita madhavacharya too and chaitanya mahaprabhu also. All the other two's got respectable amount of validation for their philosophies along with Shankracharya ji.
All the three are different paths to the same castle and all of them can be realised.
You can't call one false and other true just by reading them you can only claim one(or more) to be true if you have realized it/them.

@Mr. Anonymous that's what I was saying every philosophy have some loops and all are refuted and accepted the debates are endless.
To me Advaita+achintya bhedabddha seems appealing but I again stay away from claiming one over other.
All I say is -to me this is fine and ofcourse all of the others hold some reality to them. But I never claim others to be faulty and wrong untill and unless they are not demanding anything harmful. Sanatanais needs unity now that's why I'm saying avoid arguments over sectarian views and talk what is acceptable to the masses.🙏🏻
