i love the idea of the Ghost series being an anthology, letting us explore new areas of Japan in different pivotal time periods with a different Ghost every time.
True. I am really happy that it wasn't a continuation of Jin Sakai as I had hoped. Jin's story already peaked. Any additional story beats will only be inferior. I was hoping we would get Meiji period, period where Rurouni Kenshin took place if I am not mistaken. But after watching Shogun, I kinda felt like they would go with the 1600s first, which coincidentally happened.
Erika Ishii who plays Atsu the lead character for Ghost Of Yōtei also plays Sektor in the new DLC expansion for MK1, which dropped the same day as this announcement. So yesterday was a big day for her.
I see a lot of people disappointed that Jin isn’t back but honestly I feel like his story ended perfectly. I don’t think they need to bring him back for the sake of bringing him back.
I'm disappointed but so effing hyped still. I hope Jins story is explored in a musicians story. Go to musician and get the Tale Of Jin. And you get his OG Ghost Armour
Well, with the ending where Jin puts on the mask i was really looking forward to see how his legend continues, it was kind of open ended. But i understand why they chose a new character and time period, it would have been too limiting to stick with Jin Sakai.
I could see them bringing him back in the Mythic Tales. Maybe it's one of the first you do and Jin's story is what inspires this new character to take on the title of Ghost. I love this direction. Instead of centering around one character its centered around the symbol of the Ghost. This lets the team at Sucker Punch expand into new areas of Japan, new era's, especially those not widely known in the western world. A lot like what they did for Tsushima, I did not know much about the Mongol invasion of Japan or even the Island of Tsushima before the game.
Can't blame them. Most popular streamers are either not history nerds or can't comprehend the timeline and evolution of human history in general. I said human history because they don't even have the clear knowledge of their own country's history.
@@lucasbelmonte2832 That's definitely the impression that the trailer gave. Seemed like a very sparsely populated land. I never played Ghost of Tsushima, but I think I'll give this a look.
1603 was the year when the Edo shogunate was opened by Tokugawa Ieyasu. "Ezo (Hokkaido)" is still an undeveloped land, and it was also a time when the Ainu, an indigenous people, lived in harmony with nature. We may see battles with the Ainu who resist the expansion of control by the Shogunate forces.
Ghost of Yotei takes place around the time Japan became one of the largest firearms manufacturers in the world and when Japan was going through a lot of change. There's many avenues in this era of Japan that can be explored especially if the conflict of honor remains as a theme from the first game.
I'm actually glad they're not going with a direct sequel, this way they completely avoid people's expectations of a sequel story involving Jin and can just do a completely new thing, (while keeping the incredible mechanics and art style from the first game). Also considering this takes place around the same time as Shogun it'll be interesting to see any parallels that come up in terms of where Japanese society is at.
At this time Hokkaido is not part of Japan and the Japan government is expanding their territory northward, I believe we are playing as the native who fight against Tokugawa government, which SP done a great job using Japanese instrument playing western style music
Been waiting waiting waiting for this one! Being set in 1603, this game takes place 3 years after the Shōgun series that just won a bunch of emmys. It's also set about 25 years after AC Shadows.
The only two complaints I've seen at all are from delusional people that thought Jin was getting a direct sequel after a pretty definite ending, and the sexist dipshits whining about a female main character and samurai (guess they just ignored Lady Masako). I would go into detail about how the sexist dipshits are historically illiterate morons if they think female samurai didn't exist (Onna-musha are one example) but they don't actually care about historical fact, its just one of their flimsy excuses to try and disguise sexist bullshit.
Mount Yotei is on the Hokkaido Island or North Island of Japan. Its west of Sapporo. Mount Yotei is also called the small Mount Fuji because it looks like it.
This year is the beginning of the era that inspired the Shogun series: Tokugawa period. Probably we will see more of japan fighting itself in different clans.
Well, not exactly what was happening in the backwaters of Hokkaido. The war with the Ainu had been settled a couple decades earlier with a trade agreement and in 1604, a year after this is set, Yoshihiro Kakizaki was given a monopoly on trade in the area by the Shogunate. The Matsumae Clan is the only one there, other than the native Ainu.
Yotei is a mountain in Hokkaido. The region of Hokkaido is known for its bears and wolves as well as being the most hostile of all the regions in Japan in terms of climate and conditions. It’s also the second largest of the Japanese islands so it’ll definitely be a bigger map. I’m very excited for this game simply because it’s going to show us the direction for the series. To me the series is predicated on old style Japanese samurai films, which served as inspiration for spaghetti westerns. That’s why the music sounded very similar to something out of a Clint Eastwood film. If the series decides to continue in this samurai western style, I see a lot of story potential for each game.
In case anyone wants a small info dump, it's pronounced "Yo - Tay - Ee" Mount Yotei is in Hokkaido, the northern island of Japan. It was called Ezochi at the time 1600s is near the tale end of the Sengoku Jidai, the warring states period of Japan, so lots of firearms floating around
The music having that "wild west" vibe makes sense. Hokkaido is the wild north for Japan, in the same way the US west coast is Wild West. A great example of this analogy is the film "Unforgiven". There's the 1992 Clint Eastwood version in Wild West. There's the 2013 Ken Watanabe version set in Hokkaido (though it's a different time period compared to Ghost of Yotei)
after watching the trailer, i googled "mount yotei" and was amazed that the picture pretty much looked the same lol. really hyped for this, even though i'll have to wait for pc-port.
Looks great honestly! Love the shamisen & wolf imagery instead of foxes & the flute. The look of the main character is cool as hell, plus the western music vibes coming full circle back to japanese samurai films. The classic movie lady with a shamisen killer thing. Very excited to see where this is going. Jin didn't really need another game, and just doing the second mongol invasion of Tsushima would have felt stale, especially since a lot of that game was discovering the island itself. Might be cool if his final fate could be like a side story/dlc mission type thing though.
I think that if you subscribe to the theory that the guiding wind in the first game was the spirit of Jin’s father, then it’s possible Atsu (the new protagonist) could be a descendant of Jin. Either way, I’m massively hyped for this game.
literally the only thing I felt was missing from the first game was some kind of morality system, just because Sucker Punch already had experience with the Infamous games. I hope there's some kind of system present in this one
I am super excited for this, especially with it coming out next year. And with AC Shadows being delayed to February, I unfortunately feel like it will get overshadowed by this
6:35 people already said that while GoT didn't actually do much revolutionizing* and was actually pretty basic, it did it all perfectly, the way it should be implemented, and that's why everything is so damn fun. so while i'm sure they'll add or tweak things for yotei, tsushima should hopefully still be returnable lol
Take aways: Story is unknown currently Location is Mount Yotei in the Hokkaido Region The year is 1603, the same year the Edo period started as Tokugawa was named Shogun by the Emperor Doggo I look forward to later trailers
1600s Japan is after the Sengoku Period (aka after Oda Nobunaga and Toyotomi Hideyoshi (Taiko) from the SHOGUN tv series) This is when Tokugawa (Toranaga) rise to power, the European brought flintlock guns to Japan for about a few hundred years by now. I am expecting to see this era involve fighting against the catholics, fighting against Ishida (Ishido) aka Tokugawa's revival and the Battle of Sekigahara. There is also various famous samurai Ronin during this time: Miyamoto Musashi and Sasaki Kojiro
For historical context this was a period Tokugawa takeover of the Shogunate after the battle of Sekigahara in 1600 pre total eradication of to Toyotami clan in Osaka and post Imujin war defeat in korea 5 years ago and the year Tokugawa Ieyasu was given the tittle officially as the Shogun and the modern day Hokkaido was not really part of Japan at this time and most inhabited by Ainu people and vagabonds and Ronins with other exiles honestly read the Manga Vagabond it really good for a perspectives of what happens to the samurais who where on the losing side of all theses wars
I am excited for this so this takes place near mr. yotei or to be more specific what current day hokkaido so this is not under Japan's rule during this time
Guns have been used in Japan's civil wars since the mid-1500s, and Hokkaido, the northern part of Japan where this game takes place, is a cold region located at about the same latitude as, say, Minnesota in the United States. There is nothing climatically incongruous about the images in this trailer. Sucker Punch, well done again.
hahaha so funny how Ubisoft pulls out of Tokyo Game Show due to Assassin's Creed Shadows and they announce a how to do a Great game in " Feodal " Japan hahahahaha
I'm really excited about this piece of news. There is part of me that was hoping a sequel would continue Jin's story, and see him travel from Tsushima to mainland Japan to continue his fight against the Mongols, but I also really like the idea of this new character taking up the mantle and legacy of the Ghost. In addition I think skipping ahead to 1603, around the start of the Edo peridod/Tokugawa shogunate is a really fun idea. Hopefully we get to see, or at least hear about, some fictionalized historical characters, like Tokugawa (the real life counterpart to Toranaga from Shogun) himself.
someone on twitter said that because this takes place 300 years after jin's story, we'll probably only hear about him through a mythic tale where we learn the ghost stance or get his armor. i couldn't be more sad about this game now.
In ancient Japan, women traditionally remained at home. Taking on the roles of caregivers and homemakers, nurturing their children and managing the household, while men were called to battle during times of war. I can't relate with a female protagonist. Im hoping they haven't COMPLETELY abandoned Jin Sakai. His story most certainly just beginning. Fingers crossed they bring him back with a connection to the new main character.
I dunno about just beginning. He was declared a traitor by the Shogun. I doubt there was much more to Jin's story after that. You can't run forever. Eventually someone would catch him and bring his head to the shogun. This is why sparing the uncle was an exercise in futility. His uncle was already dead and would undoubtedly face a more brutal death at the hands of the shogun than if Jin had give him a quick and relatively painless death. I always doubted that there was enough to sustain another game let alone many games. Making it a anthology is so much smarter and allows them the freedom to maintain the same feel and aesthetic and still keep the game fresh.
@@ibuprofriends I sound well informed, why don't you tell me about how Sucker Punch loves "origin stories". I know this is set 400 years later so the characters wouldnt exist in the same time period but an opening sequence or inter splicing their stories would work. Or are you talking about the exploration of the descendants of the Emishi of Hokkaido?
I don't really like the idea of a new character so early on i mean we only got the start of his story the only thing they really wrapped up was that he finally accepted that he is the ghost (if you choose to spare your uncle) if you choose to kill your uncle it's really up to debate whether he was done being the ghost or if he was gonna leave tsushima, if you killed he's uncle all you see is him in pain screaming and crying so it's really not a wrapped up story if anything it really just leaves you with more questions cause jin is supposed to be a young character around he's 30's i would have loved to see a sequel where we follow him 20 years later where he has settled has a family, a wife who knows that he is the ghost and maybe she dies of ninjas or roñins sent from the shogun or the next shogun who have located him after all this time because then jin has a motive and we can for example have him drop he's children off with a older yuna or something while he seeks he's revenge and from there we get a short backround story of everything he's be through when he speaks with Yuna i mean shit i just made that story up in my head and felt it could work as a start😂😂😂😂
what would be the point. it’s a trailer reaction. lying about movie or tv show reactions would at least make sense. a video game trailer that just came out? stupid
Woke of Tsushima doesn't sound like such a great idea. They hired a horrible activist to play the main character. They should have just gone with Jin or made a game based on the 2nd time Tsushima was invaded. SONY won't be getting my purchase on this one, and if it comes out that Sweet Baby Stink was involved, it's GAME OVER man, game over!
I probably won't play this one, not that the game doesn't look good but playing as female characters just isn't my thing. Relatability is relevant to every good story, being able to put yourself in the characters shoes on some level however minute. You can do that to some extent through the story and emotions but the story will be told through a female lense so you can only go so far. Again, it doesn't mean the game isn't going to be good and I hope it is, but it's not for me.
The only situation in which relatability would be an issue whe experiencing a story in the context of relating to a woman as a man would be if the story was exclusiely about "being a woman", which I really doubt will be the case for this. Just like Metroid, Tomb Raider, The Last of Us 2, Horizon, Nier: Automata, etc., were never about gender. Hell, even when you can make an argument for a story being about women, you can still gain something from it like a lot of other people did with the Barbie movie. Stories are rarely if ever that narrow in their conception. I truly think this argument makes zero sense.
Heyyy you know what would be great to do before the game comes out? Watch Blue Eye Samurai :D it's amazing, I hope it comes to more polls in the future
i love the idea of the Ghost series being an anthology, letting us explore new areas of Japan in different pivotal time periods with a different Ghost every time.

My woke radar is going off... 90% chance it is woke to hell.
These guys knew what they were watching. Give me a break
No, they did not. Their editors/friends provide them with a download that has no title.

what would be the point. it’s a trailer reaction. lying about movie or tv show reactions would at least make sense. a video game trailer that just came out? stupid

What's wrong with her?
@@Meowtro Some weird views on men and police, but she's only a VA so it doesn't matter as she has no power.
@@MeowtroThe VA is non binary, so the usual suspects showed up to harass her.
Yeah she’s a very keen racist. Pretty disgusting tweet history.
Woke of Tsushima doesn't sound like such a great idea. They hired a horrible activist to play the main character. They should have just gone with Jin or made a game based on the 2nd time Tsushima was invaded. SONY won't be getting my purchase on this one, and if it comes out that Sweet Baby Stink was involved, it's GAME OVER man, game over!
what a sad and pathetic life you must lead.
I don't want to be rude but I think you may have psychosis, get help.
Oh, so you're a Japanese samurai from 1273? Since you need such hardcore relatability.
Why isn't playing as female characters your "thing". Why can't stories with female characters be as impactful as those with male characters?
@@Meowtro You know why, but to be fair I'm also engaging this comment seriously for some reason because I'm bored.
As a woman it's a damn good thing I don't need to pretend I'm literally in their shoes otherwise I wouldn't have that many games to play, would I?
Heyyy you know what would be great to do before the game comes out? Watch Blue Eye Samurai :D it's amazing, I hope it comes to more polls in the future
