when the role of the mentally challenged person in "I Am Sam" was offered to him, Sean Penn agreed that he was the right person for that role

He's right. Look what happens when they have him play a smart person. It would never work. But they always have him play a moron. Perfect.

It’s called acting. I wonder who in the rainbow/small-hat mafia has his number?

Folks re listen to this!!! He is saying that he wants the best actor to play a role, irregardless of their own identity. They are actors, their skills should allow them to play the role.

We heard, but he has burned all his credibility bridges by being a supporter of Hillary C.

This is slightly confusing. The first part of this seems to say Sean Penn is cool w straight actors playing gay roles and vice versa. But then the latter part seems to criticize this. 🤷🏼‍♂️

He's providing a band aid while criticizing their roots. Cast diversity so people stop talking about it and use the fact the people still call the movies lame after to write better stories.

I enjoyed that Penn in Taps (1981), and A State of Grace (1990) - his finest role, in my opinion - opposite Gary Oldman, my favorite actor.

@@nancyhendershott1033 you realize he's literally talking about acting here? He's saying that realistic casting based on diversity takes away the creative aspect of acting. he's saying a straight guy SHOULD be able to play a gay man. And people shouldn't be upset that a gay man wasn't hired for the role.. Get it?
