I really wish everyone, from food-plotters to large-scale ag farmers, would take the time to understand the virtues of a no-till approach.

More and more people certainly are! Including the food-plotters, which is awesome!

Converting to no till myself, which sounds like a good idea. Just pray for rain! Im doing the same thing, mianly soy beans, with oats in the winter. And Yes to clover, perennial stand!!

Very good explanation. I purchased my no-till drill (Land Pride 606NT) in 2016 and have not turned any dirt since. I am planting 15 acres of food plots in Upper Michigan with a fairly high deer density. Beans certainly don't last until Jan-Feb like they do in Indiana and it is hard for the deer to reach the cover crop under the snow but we are doing the best we can. Seat time in my tractor have gone from about 200 hours/year when I was turning dirt and picking rocks to just 100 hours/year with the no-till practice. Soil OM and nutrient levels continues to build and the drill has put the fun back into food plotting.

Great video... We bought a 6.5' no till late last fall in central Ms. Will plant 7 acres of RR forage beans spring 21. We wanted to put cereal rye in last fall but couldn't find any that late. We went with winter wheat and planning to crimp if we can get crimper ready. If not we will spray. Question: We're planning to plant on 7.5" rows but what are your thoughts on 15" rows, giving them more room to spread? Also knowing more space for weeds to grow. Guess we can decide on spacing based on how much suppression we get from the crimped wheat.

Yes weed control/suppression would be one of the main factor on spacing.

I love everything about your blueprint except the spraying of synthetic chems. Do you try and avoid spraying or is it a part of every cycle?

We don't always spray in no till situations. But, if weed competition is severe enough we will spray. Ideally with no-till (food plots) you can keep some sort of forage on the ground to help suppress weeds almost year round, reducing the amount and frequency of spraying.
