    I would for sure choose the single room cuz I am an introvert and prefer to stay alone in a room with a balcony. I have planned to do microbiology from Fudan University Shanghai China in 2025. Inshallah ❤

    Hi! Thank you for this video. How were you able to get the single room? Did you put it as your first priority?

    • @claraontheroad3049
      @claraontheroad3049  4 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Everyone books their room at the same time, and you don't select a type of room as a priority, you literally pick your room number (at least that's how it worked when I did my booking), and next to rooms number you have the type of room it is. So I checked the box to see only single rooms, and then I picked one. And it was all about being quick and ready to book the minute the registration was open : my year, booking started at 9 am Chinese time, so 3 am in my country, well I was on the website ready at 2:50 am.

    Coucou :D Merci pour cette vidéo ! Je me demandais, où as-tu tout acheter pour remplir ta chambre ? Et tu as tout transporté toute seule ou comment tu t'es organisée ? Je serai peut-être à Fudan l'année prochaine, en tous les cas sur un campus et je m'inquiète donc de ce genre de choses vu que j'ai jamais fait haha !

    • @claraontheroad3049
      @claraontheroad3049  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Laeliecleria Merci de ton intérêt pour la vidéo ! J'ai meublé ma chambre essentiellement avec des objets achetés à Walmart, il y en a un dans la grosse zone commerciale de Wujiaochang, près du campus. La bas, on trouve aussi d'autres boutiques qui proposent des réveils, parure de lits, à peu près tout le nécessaire ! Si on est très chargé il est facile de rentrer à la résidence en taxi pour environ 15 RMB (2€). J'ai aussi un matelas qui vient d'ikea, le magasin n'est pas vraiment à côté par contre.
      Et donc oui j'ai tout transporté toute seule ! En début d'année beaucoup d'étudiants font ce manège entre la zone commerciale et la résidence, tu trouveras des gens pour t'accompagner !

      @claraontheroad3049  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      In the supplementary building (the first type of room I show in the video, small single room with a common space), there is a common space with a sink in each "apartment" but no real kitchen, in the main building (where you have the double room and the big single room) there are two kitchen on each floor ! People from the supplementary buildings can absolutely use them of course. As showed in the video, the equipment is very simple though, you'll have to buy ustensils.

      Hi ! As you can see later in the video, all the rooms have bathroom inside ! The individual rooms in shared flats in the supplementary buildings (the one you get by default on CSC) have two bathroom per flat (so 1 per 2 people), the double room in the main building have their own bathroom as well (so 1 per 2 people) and the single room in the main bulding have their own bathroom (1 per person).

    • @claraontheroad3049
      @claraontheroad3049  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      As far as choosing a roommate goes, yes you can ! Basically you book a room by selecting a room number on a platform, first come first served, so you can agree with your relative on which double room you're both going to book

      Yes you absolutely can ;) basically, yhen you book a room on the Fudan registration site, you don't just choose the type of room, you choose the room number. The two last digits are your room number, and the first one or two digits is the floor ! and if you want to be above all the buildings around, you can choose 12 or higher ! Maladi Limsa La chambre est à 80 RMB par nuit (ce que j'arrondis à 2400 par mois) et se paie en une fois à chaque début de semestre, sachant que si tu dépasse de quelques jours les dates en fin de semestre tu paieras pour les nuits supplémentaires, et par défaut tu ne paies pas pour les mois de vacances entre les deux semestres. Je te laisse calculer à l'année ce que ça donne selon si tu veux garder ta chambre entre les deux semestres ou non...

      Hi, you're very welcome ! Scholarships recipients automatically get the first type of room showed in the video, so a small single room in a sort of small shared apartment, and you can't choose which room or apartment. If you want another type of room, you can also participate in the booking process, and then you will have to pay the difference between the rate of the small single room you were supposed to get and the rate of the room you've chosen.

    Hi Clara, thanks for showing everything I needed to know. Super helpful. I have erad a comment below for how the system works. So, they open the date and you pick the room available as fast as possible. I know tthisvideo is from 2017 but by any chance do you remeber your romm number? Or have any to recommend me? I really need a quite place to sleep as I wake up with every noise. Thank you so much for your help and attention

    • @claraontheroad3049
      @claraontheroad3049  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Thais! Glad the video is helpful for you :)
      They give you a date and time of the day when the system opens and then it's first come first served yes. You can choose single room (which I assume you want if you're a light sleeper), then it will only show you the single room, but you still have to pick a room number indeed!
      What I would recommend you is to pick a room above the 12th floor, the view will be better and there are usually less people, so less noise. So the first two digits of the room numbers are the floor, so you can choose a room starting with 12--, 13--, etc. Then, you probably want to face South, for the view again but also because the street is on the North Side. You can't hear it when you're in a top floor and window closed, but if you like keeping your window open you definitely will hear noise if you're facing North. If the two last digits of the room are even, it's facing South, if they're odd it's facing North. So you want something like 1306,1712, 2018. My own room number first semester was 1718 I think? Not sure.
      Additionally, there are two kitchens with washing machines per floors. And they're on the South Side of the hallway. So if you're sensitive to noise, would be good to avoid the rooms right next to the kitchen, but I'm not really sure which numbers they are... Probably rooms 2 an 14 ? Not certain though

      @@claraontheroad3049 Uauuu thank you so much for such Clara for such a detailed and quick answer. I have no words to express my gratitude enough. This will help me so much already as I understood we have the year compromise in that room, right? If you do not mind me asking, the Chinese language course you pay straightway in the application process but the accommodation you pay monthly or you need to pay a semester or something like that? Are students living in the dorms allowed to receive visitors? For example, if my sister visits me in Shanghai, would she be allowed to enter and maybe sleep there in my room or this is forbidden? I guess it might be not allowed. I apologize for so many questions but I am so excited to go there and I don't know yet anyone who has studied in Fudan. Thanks again and have a good weekend.

      @@myhomeistravelling1455 @MY HOME IS TRAVELLING you're very welcome!
      When you book a room, by default you have it for the semester, and then later in the semester they ask you if you want to keep it through the break for the whole year and you can just say yes! I personally chose to leave my room during the break because I didn't want to pay rent while I was away, so I had to go through the booking process again but got another nice room, didn't care.
      When you check in for your room, you will pay the whole semester upfront, and then when you leaven they might give you back some or ask you some more depending on the exact number of days you stayed.
      Technically you can't have visitor staying overnight in your dorm room : to enter the dormitory area you have to show your student card, and if you have a visitor with you they have to sign in who they are and who they're with. However, in practice, everyone found to sneak people into the dorms, friends or significant others. But yeah officially its not allowed. Fudan has some rooms for guests in the building that can be booked for a nightly rate and that's what they want you to do in this type of situation. I personally had someone stay with me in my room for two weeks, but when my mom visited I found her a nice and not expensive hotel

    hi! thank you so much for this video, it's really informative! the booking system is quite complicated, so i want to know if i understood everything correctly. the rooms on the 17-th floor are 1701, 1702 etc., right? so if i want to live on the 17-th floor i'll just have to type 1701 when booking the room..?

    • @claraontheroad3049
      @claraontheroad3049  4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Correct! Rooms on the 17th floor are 1701 ... Etc. I would add that room numbers finishing by an odd number (1701, 1703 etc) face North, while room finishing by an even number (1702, 1704, etc) face South!

    How much is the rent (main building per year)

    • @claraontheroad3049
      @claraontheroad3049  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      You never pay rent for the whole year, you usually pay rent by the semester, and most people don't stay during the summer break, so you wouldn't necessarily pay for the actual entire year. Rent is 80 RMB per day though, so if you were to actually rent it for 365 days of the year it would be 80x365 = 29 200 RMB. I studied at Fudan for a year and didn't pay that though, since I didn't rent my room through winter break nor summer break

      They're all in Handan campus! In the same building. And the 2nd one is a double room, the 3rd one is a single room, if you want a single room and can't see the difference, just take a room above the 12th level, they're all single room.

    Hi dear thanks for the video.Wanted to ask how much does apartments outside campus cost and can you go to live off campus when you are on a government scholarship?

    • @claraontheroad3049
      @claraontheroad3049  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      You can live off campus when you are on scholarship, and I think in that case you receive a small stipend to help out with housing costs, but not as high as the rent on campus. And the price of an apartment off campus varies widely depending on if you want a studio, a bedroom in a shared apartment (very common), if you want to live around Fudan, in the center of Shanghai, in less popular neighborhoods... Generally, the larger the flat, the more modern the amenities and the more expats in an area, the more expensive it gets. I'd say on average you can find a bedroom in a shared flat with roommates for 1500 to 4 000 RMB per month, it can get much higher than that though

    Are you allowed to get into your room with someone that do not belong to the dorm in case you wanna get laid or rules are very strict regarding this...?

    • @claraontheroad3049
      @claraontheroad3049  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I don't know if the rules have changed since I was a student there, but when I was : during the day, you have to show your dorm room card (which is basically your key) to enter the room, and anyone who doesn't have one and doesn't belong to the dorm has to sign off on a sheet of paper with who they're accompanying, and they also sign off when they leave, and they're supposed to be gone before dark basically so the person controlling who comes in and out will see if someone hasn't left. The person from outside the dorm is also supposed to stay in the common areas, not come up to your room, but no one enforces that rule. Past 10 pm or so, no one outside the dorm is allowed to enter, and even people belonging in the dorms have to sign in. No one outside t he dorm is allowed to stay the night either obviously.
      With all of that said... We did find ways around it haha. Lots of people found ways to bring people that didn't belong to the dorms in and have them stay the night, usually by getting them in before 10 pm, entering themselves, then giving the dorm room card key to whoever they were bringing in through the fences at the back of the dorms, then the other person just comes in with your dorm card.
      I don't know how much they sanction you for circumventing the rules though!

    • @claraontheroad3049
      @claraontheroad3049  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Personally I think the single rooms in the main building, because you have a room all to yourself, it's pretty large ... Sure the double rooms are less expensive, but the main issue is that you have to share it with someone, so if that person happens to be nice and clean, great, if they happen to be really rude and dirty, you have to handle that. There is also little to no privacy since your beds are only separated by the night stand

      @@claraontheroad3049 If we get a Chinese government scholarship would the single room in the main building cost on us and the electricity bill and books or all these will be paid by the government? Thank you for your love and help

    • @claraontheroad3049
      @claraontheroad3049  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@naziafarasat1976 If you get the Chinese government scholarship, you automatically have a single room in the sub buildings (the first type of room in the video, not the last one), so to have a single room in the main building (bigger, individual bathroom) you need to book it and to pay the difference (35 RMB per night if I'm correct) . How much you pay in electricity and bills depends on your own use of AC, heating etc, so I can't say, it's not covered by the Chinese government scholarship anyway, but I know I paid on average like 50 RMB a month (less in summer, more in winter). As for books, depends on your program, but plan on like 300-400 RMB per semester
