Great song choice to ease into Metallica. I'd suggest "The Unforgiven" and "Fade to Black" next , before getting into the "heavier" stuff like "Master of Puppets" and "One".
While both rock and metal are guitar and drum based genres , rock usually has more of a beat you can move to and lighter subject matter. Metal usually deals with deeper subject matter , so you'll actually hear the instruments "express" emotion like pain , anger , frustration , fear , etc.

Metallica, the greatest heavy metal/slash metal band ever formed. I've loved this band most of my life and will love them for the rest of my life. I'm 35 now, and Metallica was the very first metal band, or actually the first musical experience I ventured into during puberty. They always say you usually find your musical niche during puberty and at 12 years old, I found Metallica and is still my favorite band of all time.

Can’t go wrong with Metallica. You’ll find as you listen that they are perfectionist. Their instrumentation is so crisp and clear and in sync. For me everything from master of puppets to spit out the bone just showcases their talent. Pick a song any song you won’t be disappointed 👍👍👍

''Fade to Black'' or ''For Whom the Bell Tolls'' next please, it's early metallica, their 2nd album. They mix melody and thrash metal perfectly.

Every Metallica album is different, keep that in mind when picking a next review.
Kill 'Em All is young, raw, unpolished thrash metal, not perfect but will have you bouncing off the walls with energy.
Ride The Lightning gets more technically proficient, produced a little better, still high-energy thrash metal with dark subjects
Master of Puppets starts the change to really polished less thrashy but super heavy metal with DEEP and dark topics
...And Justice For All, probably the most technically polished of the thrash/heavy era, the most politically charged and societally topical lyrics
Black... best produced, but shifting to clean and fast heavy metal instead of thrashy. Artistry's starting to come up rather than sheer brute force.
Load and Reload, "experiments". Anything there from Black album style heavy metal to sick/slick groove metal, bluesy stuff, heart-wrenching and chilling writing.... they even pulled off a country song and a song that sounds like an old sailor's sea shanty, both with lyrics that'll make a grown man cry ('Mama Said' and 'Low Man's Lyric', and i'm serious... either of those catch a person the right way and it's tears all the way through).
Saint Anger... anyone can make mistakes.
Death Magnetic returns to speed/heavy but the producers screwed it up by overdriving it for CD volume rather than keeping dynamics. Look for remasters/remixes or it's muddy, the one thing you can't do to Metallica is let the playback be muddy and mask dynamics. It's all dynamics!
Hardwired to Self Destruct, back to the thrash days but with experience this time...

I'd say what makes a metal band is the soul of the music, and how it comes through no matter if it's a really heavy or fast song, or an incredibly slow and chill song like NEM. The core is still the same, the feeling is still the same.
Atleast that's what metal is to me.

    Aw shit.
I had no idea Mathews fam did music reactions. I like watching them just because they got such good, positive, happy vibes. I had no clue they were doing stuff like this. A year ago. So it’s probably a wrap? Did they stop or something?
    I wish they did more.
People love love love sharing what is special to them, I know I do and everyone I know does. You know like when you make someone listen to a song that you love and that they’ve never even heard before, you get all excited and almost impatiently eager for them to really hear it, it starts and your just smiling because you know how that riff is gonna go and how the build up is gonna explode. It’s crazy how much we love sharing the things that mean something to us. And it’s like that with everybody. Crazy. As much as we enjoy it all by ourselves there’s something so powerfully special and exciting about sharing it. I guess dude was right, happiness is only real when it’s shared with others.
And I can totally dig it.
    This was an awesome reaction.
I wish y’all were still doing it.
There’s a reason everyone gets views with reaction videos. I always said it’s the easiest way to blow up on here, BUT you gotta know how to do it without disrespecting the art and without annoying everyone. And you gotta pick the right songs. Metal heads and rock n roll fans tend to enjoy watching people unfamiliar with the music react to it. Love seeing them rocking to it before they even realize it.
    This video was awesome.
Metallica made some amazing music. Master of puppets was my jam. They were before my time, but it didn’t matter. I loved everything. All music. Grew up in the red bricks, was definitely one of a kind in my neighborhood, the only one blaring Metallica, Tool, Pantera, Soundgarden, Temple of the Dog (yeah yeah- Chris and Eddie, a tribute to a lost soul that wasn’t really a band so much as a gathering- even the name of the group was a tribute, and I loved everything did and if not for temple of the dog we wouldn’t have Pearl Jam would we??) Alice In Chains, Nine inch Nails, - but also blasting Lincoln park, gorillaz, sublime, the offspring, audioslave (because Chris Cornell was an artistic soul and despite his struggles and his need to escape and start again, every band he formed, every style he created- it was always brilliant and always touching and audioslave did some awesome things, like a Stone is like my funeral anthem, they better play it on repeat when I go), Chevelle, Seether, stone temple pilots, and I can’t forget my hip hop- 90’s, all day, I went hard for it- Nas, Pac, Biggie, Hova, AZ, Wu, Raekwon (his solo- that purple tape---rainy dayz-), DMX, DRS (no one ever knows who DRS, but they always wanna claim they love that 90’s hip hop- just look up gangsta lean- friggin awesome track) Eminem (but not in a Stan way- fucking annoying ass Stan’s just make me not want to listen to Em or like him or claim him because they’re so fucking cringe man, but that’s not Em’s fault and his shit is sick)
I don’t know why I’m writing all this.
See what music does to people.
A random Metallica reaction got me over here reminiscing and boasting about all my favorite artists and my love for music.
    What an art.

With Metallica hard stuff you have to play it loud. They are a tight band.

man there so many types of metal. even specific band have their own brand of metal named specifically after them. its kinda deep and complicated. european metal is very different. bands like opeth who are scandanavian are very much influenced by their folk music which has alot of the same cadences. heavy metal can basically be summed up in the BIG 4 'Metallica, Megadeth, Slayer and anthrax in america. great video glad u liked it this is basicall the band that made me go to college and study music.

glad to see this in your reaction videos.
This album is their 6th and was release about 28 years ago, and still one of my favorites.. I enjoy their harder stuff, but this album was their first that kids "didn't have to hide from their parents" due to it's change to hard rock and more ballad style songs. it's what brought them out of the "metal heads" crowd and into mainstream. Definitely not a great example of "Heavy Metal" in the sense, but a great example of a Heavy Metal band and their ability to expand outside of Metal and still be amazing. they have many amazing guitar solos in the music, but I feel this was a great example of their skill set as a full package..
Side Note, their lead guitarist Kirk Hammett took lessons from Joe Satriani.. Though they are two different styles of guitarists, you can hear the similarities..
That's another artist to check out some time.. Joe Satriani.. you'd be amazed at his ability to own a guitar. :)

Now dear Lamar as you have been listening Queen for a while and you have entered the Rock world, you can seperate the sounds of bands, because the sounds are specific to Each Rock band as their signature.. You may find different state of minds in each group you like .. For ex I am a Queen fan for almost 25 years and at times I listened Metallica, Guns N Roses, Nirvana ( grunge Rock) and for last years The Doors... Queen and The Doors always stayed with me corresponding my every mood... One day I wished you could do a video for : The Doors :

Depends on what type of Metallica songs you are into. If you like more soulful ballads you go with Bleeding Me, Unforgiven 1,2,3 Nothing Else Matters, Mama said, Low Man's lyrics, Fade to Black, Fixxxer, To live is to Die... if you like the original thrash metal Metallica, you go with songs like Master of Puppets, Justice for All, Blackened, Seek and Destroy, Dyers Eve, Things that should not be.... and always react to a studio version first

    • @mfree80286

Careful tossing that Low Man's Lyrics around, unless you like seeing reviewers cry.
Studio first is good, with 2 exceptions. If they played in in Seattle 1989, the Live Shit/Binge and Purge concert, that's a good first stop for a song. The 1991 Moscow/Tushino airfield performances of Creeping Death and Harvester of Sorrow are also top notch and have that edge of energy from their biggest audience ever...

YES! About studio versions first, I hate when peoples first listen is a live clip.
Only live versions you need are Eric Johnson- Cliffs of dover & van halen - eruption solo
      ONLY EXCEPTIONS

In my humble opinion I think the number qualifier of heavy metal music is respect and honoring veterans. Number two would be the understanding and also hatred of war. There's probably Ben 10000 firefights that had people that got pumped up to Metallica.

Heavy metal should be perfectly played, tight as hell, and have amazing LYRICS that resonate with everyone. And making you want to bang you're head like crazy helps alot. Lol

Try "Enter Sandman" by Metallica, to become a feeling for their "normal" sound. "Nothing Else Matters" is just a ballad. By the way, the greatest ballads always comes from Metal-Bands. After hearing "Enter Sandman" you will even know what makes Metallica a Metal-Band...

Wow you are making a leap here 😁 no fear shown! This song, while amazing is not representative of their music. Enter sandman, The Unforgiven (1 & 2) . Song called One is very dark but think you will like the subject. The Memory Remains with Marianne Faithfull also great. Even Rock / Metal fans can't agree on where each genre starts and stops, it's a can of worms. Best ignore labels for now and just find what you like, try Foofighters, Pearl Jam and soòooo many more to choose from 😁🤟 another great reaction.

I seen some incredible explanation of the difference between Rock and Metal. I`ve been a Metal fan from the seventies and the observation I`ve noticed is what is todays Metal is often tomorrows rock. Both styles have heavily distorted guitar at the centre of genre, As music gets heavier with newer technology what was once considered as shockingly loud and heavy, with time seems tame. This is often down to amplifier technology, in the seventies you had to push your amps hard to get them to distort, later the gain stages were cascaded to give more saturation. More recently bands have down tuned to sound heavier and bass rich. It had very little to do with hair length as everyone had long hair. Within Heavy Metal there are lots of sub genres ( Thrash, Prog, Djent, Shred, ETC). Often arguments erupt over what is Metal and what is Rock, don't waste time just enjoy it they are the same family.

Kill em All, Ride the Lightning, Master of Puppets, and ...And Justice for All had the Heavy Metal label. Metallica, Load, and Reload were Alternative Rock. Into the 2000's is when Metallica started getting it's heavy metal side back. Metallica has been around a long time. They have stood the test of time because they are so good. Sure, there is a lot of head banging. But the lyrics are there to support the song. It isn't just a bunch of nonsense. It is what makes them so great. Get Spotify and add all of their albums. Download some lyrics and you will get the full experience.

Heavy Metal: a type of highly amplified harsh-sounding rock music with a strong beat, characteristically using violent or fantastic imagery.
    2.
a metal of relatively high density, or of high relative atomic weight.

Metallica covered Queen's Stone Cold Crazy. You will hear how their sound is "heavier" and faster than the studio version (although Queen does speed up in several live versions, Freddie just doesn't have the metal vocals that Hetfield does). Early Metallica is not just metal, it's thrash metal.

Freddie’s thrash metal version Houston ‘77 @ 270bpm, faster than any Metallica version, according to a poster in the video’s thread. th-cam.com/video/DFRjg07YZ4w/w-d-xo.html
This isn’t an argument! Just information. Metallica has a totally different sound from Queen.
