Just a free idea, Our run was getting muddy last year and it caused dirty eggs as well. I started dumping all my dead leaves in the run. I stopped when it got 2 ft deep, but it kept them dry and gave them all the entertainment for scratching around. Plus it all turned into amazing compost.

Yes you need to put straw on them because if it does come a bad winter it will kill them. Putting straw on them will protect them. & if it doesn’t get bad then it will keep the moisture in so they won’t dry out during the hot summer. That’s the Way by grandpa did with her strawberries and you could go out every morning to pick them by the Bucket fulls you need too some of your chicken crap to put on your garden

I take them down in Oct. And put them up the middle of April
The sage can be cut back if it gets to big. The onions, just thin them out as you go. Never let onions go. Dad always pulled them up, tied the greens together, and hang them up in a cool dark area. Usually in the shed or garage. They stayed good usually until middle of summer the next year, but they were yellow or white onions, not what i call salad onions like what you have. My sage plant stayed alive for about 15 yrs.
Hi Mel am bored ❤stop in for bit . I have two egg plant started from a seed funny thing lol!! There not dying it’s been freezing cold along as they get rain 🌧️ there still growing. My first time growing eggs plants 🌱. Strawberry go to sleep 💤 you can water them during the day keeps them from dying off pretty soon they will turn red . 😊that means there sleeping 💤 you can put some kind of plastic cover for strawberries 🍓 to keep predators off the plant because cats liked to lay on them. That’s my problem so I have to put stuff over for the winter time and it has been freezing temperatures here yikes.😅. Onion look good as for kale I can not eat that in a salad bc I would choke/ but never knew you could cook it in a soup sounds different. Maybe I will try it . Garden is great . You can grown onions year round start potatoes in the spring cover them in straw keeps them warm . Those chicken wires Tuen them into round basket put mulch mix’s with garden soil or dirt plant the eyes they will grown tall plants 🌱 harming potatoes is around September or October then you would have abundance of all different kinds of potatoes. Keep them in a cellar where it’s cold. Or can them so you have them for the winter for stews and fried taters or whatever you need I wish I could do that here but I’m gonna start making me some sugar-free or less sugar jam cause I’m a diabetic anyway have a good evening see ya.

Mel, you do realize that all the hummingbirds have all migrated to Mexico and South America until spring….I would hold on to your nectar until spring. All the sigs are cute. Mel, why don’t you and Gary put nesting boxes in for the chickens to lay their eggs in…might keep them cleaner and safer from damage🤷♀️ They deserve nesting boxes and roosting bars in the Pecker Palace.
It’s 42 degrees here in Grenada Mississippi and it’s suppose to be around freezing by Friday

Need wood chip for out side straw for inside. Ask the Amish sawmill if they will let you buy some sawmill shavings by the truckload or chips if they have it it would work a lot better that compass down good for your garden

to clean a penny put it in a small glass or cup and cover with coke cola just leave it and the dirt comes off
dead leaves make good bedding for your chicken run and just add layers and by spring you have good compost for the garden
Great job on the new decorations. Not sure the one you put back by the pecker building is being seen that well. But you did good. I'm sure once spring comes everything will be blooming and you'll get all the groceries you'll need to help you through dinner. Hopefully your garden flourished better next year. 2025 will be a better year because there will be someone in office fighting for us not against us.

Have you thought to dry out some of your herbs, and save in a jar? Your over abundance of kale can be washed, chopped and frozen. Also leave your green jalapenos growing till they turn red and become a milder serrano 🌶️ pepper.
Are your kids not going to public school any more? Or did you add some home school to help them advance?

Hey Melanie Gary you know if you can't get to the place to get hay right away or a straw you know what you could do is have the kids wake up a bunch of bags of leaves and you can always throw it in there cuz it's just more or less to keep the chickens feet from getting wet I had told Anthony this when it was hard for them to get to the store

The more "fruit" you pick from a plant, the more it will produce, because basically, the "fruit" is next years seeds, and all the plant wants to do is reproduce itself.

Do you have nesting boxes inside ? The chicken will almost always lay in the boxes . Also you might as well put your hummingbird feeders up they have gone for better tropical weather . But next May they will start coming back . House is moving on . Can’t wait for the inside building
