    An incredibly gorgeous piece of art. This, in my opinion is a stand-alone piece of fine art (no stickers, no additions needed - just a suitable frame). Thank you so much for sharing your process, Kate, but mostly for sharing your gift of creativity.

    I like to use LOADS of spray gloss varnish to seal - this kind of thing about 5 coats and let dry between each coat. This protects the surface, stops the mica moving and seals it from moisture (not 100%) but better than nothing!

    Beautiful! Yet another piece of mixed media, carefully thought out and executed! I love how those three colors of the Lindys, when dry, take on the look of a patina, and even more so when you add the gold. Although I love the look of the Inka Gold, I have had problems with mine being so dry, I have had to add moisture twice in order to give it a workable consistency. I've seen no one else with this problem..perhaps I just got an old pot or a bad one? sigh. Thanks again, it's lovely! Hugs, Robin

    It's not just you, I've had the same problem w/ my Inka Gold. I bought 10 small pots in all different colors last year, and within a few months, they were all dried up. I kept the lids on really tight and had them all in a ziploc bag and they still dried up. I have to add water to mine. It's a shame b/c it's a great product when it's the right consistency. I'm just glad I didn't buy the big jars! Heather

  • @KatePalmer
    @KatePalmer  11 ปีที่แล้ว

    Hi Ana65belle - yes it works on canvas, though the results are a little different. If you have pre-coated canvas or have applied gesso yourself, then you get much paler results and may need multiple layers - best to do a test piece first! While this does give the most dramatic results on watercolour paper - the technique can be applied to many different porous surfaces. If you particularly want to use a canvas, but want to experiment you could try Golden fiber paste for funky results.

    Have had it on my "watch later" list (which has over 100 videos on..). Finally gotten round to watching.
    What a fabulous piece, such great ideas with string & salt. Must do a version of it myself. Then add to pile I have of backgrounds that patiently wait for me to use them for an actual piece? Lol.... I am so behind with TH-cam (& everywhere else) but hopefully I'll find time to watch a few more of yr more recent creations.

      If you gesso it - you will need to do a few more layers and watch how much liquid you spray on - too much and it will just all run off :( So go slow and layer it up :)

  • @datagoddess1260
    @datagoddess1260 7 ปีที่แล้ว

    What an amazingly beautiful canvas! You're very talented. I just have three questions: 1) you mentioned fixing the canvas. What product would you use? Would Krylon matte fix work or would the matte spoil the luminescencel? 2) what did you use on the word embellishment to give it that shine? Was it Glossy Accents? And 3), putting aside the salt, would and image transfer work on a canvas like this? Many thanks for sharing your project. I want to try it myself.

    • @KatePalmer
      @KatePalmer  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Krylon matt fixative is one of my favourites and yes this would work just fine :) I used Glossy accents to give the word the shine - it's both a glue and a fabulous clear sealant. This would be way too textured to take an image transfer well - unless you did the transfer first and add everything else over the top.

    Beautiful! Two questions: which clip is the "imagine" in? and what do you do when the IncaGold dries out? Thank you!!

    • @KatePalmer
      @KatePalmer  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      Ann Dunlop Sadly my laptop has 'eaten' the clip for the embellishment :( If your Inka Gold is a bit dry you can spritz with a little water and leave overnight (or a few days) keep spritzing and let sit until it has absorbed enough moisture to be useful again.

  • @philippaswanborough6654

    would this sort of technique work on fabric at all... like calico?

    • @KatePalmer
      @KatePalmer  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Philippa Swanborough perhaps, sorry not a material girl Phillipa ;) I suspect the results might not be quite as impressive but worth a try perhaps! It does work on canvas - but that usually has a gesso coating - so maybe coat the calico?

  • @manishamadhumanjari614
    @manishamadhumanjari614 7 ปีที่แล้ว

    I don't have access to the inks. Can I do this method on canvas with similarly colored acrylics?? Guess the salt technique wont work with acrylics..... whats your opinion???

    • @kikibalden7462
      @kikibalden7462 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      try with distress ink sprays or dylusions ink sprays maybe?!

    • @KatePalmer
      @KatePalmer  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The technique works on canvas with any waterbased dye spray - the salt won't work with acrylic paint s though (you are right about that).

    • @KatePalmer
      @KatePalmer  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You absolutely could use either of those sprays - you would just need to add mica powder over top to get some shimmer - it could be a little flat without it as it's the shimmer that settles in the texture and makes it look so interesting :)

    Kate.... Would 80lb cover weight ultra smooth white card stock be suitable? Otherwise, could I use a flat canvas panel or just canvas? I watch this beautiful creation over and over. I adore your art creations so much!! Thank you for bringing me joy! Liz

    • @KatePalmer
      @KatePalmer  10 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hmm not sure that would be heavy enough to prevent warping, you could try sticking it to something though until it's dry, might help. Other choice would be a flat canvas panel. Thanks for the kind words :)
