A really energetic rendition of this NOLA classic. Great job all around. Nice camera work on Jerry and, of course, the Phil Zone. I was blessed to have attended over 100 of these shows from the late 60s right up until Jerry passed. May he along with Brent, Keith, and Pigpen forever rest in peace.
I always liked seeing the boys do this song. I remember i was at a show in oxford maine in 88 and they started playing this. I just happened to be standing next to the speakers set up on the field. The sound coming from the stage speakers, combined with the field speakers, made jerry's guitar part sound so cool. There was the perfect amount of delay between the 2 signsls to create a woderful sounding driving rythmn. Very cool
I remember back in the 70's, KSAN, the best rock station in San Francisco used to have a show every week where they would invite a Bay area rocker on to play their favorite records for an hour. One week, they had Jerry on, and he played a solid hour of the Meters.

There are generally two GD camps. Those that think the golden age was the free-willing jam parties of the 70’s and those that think the more gritty and soulful 80’s ‘Brent version’ was the golden age. I agree with you and am in the latter camp, this is the Dead! No disrespect to the original members, but Brent and Jerrys chemistry and complimentary voices took the band to new heights.

'87 was very good. To me '89 was the best year of the Grateful Dead. Crowd issues or not. You can have your '72s '77s etc. 1989 was el fuego.
