I dont think a lot of people know who Shige is, he pushed the boundaries on what I perceive as contemporary/modern Japanese tattooing. He push what traditional japanese tattooing is and created a new foundation for japanese tattooing. By creating beautiful large scaled body suits, sleeves, back pieces with flow that compliment the body, but also tells your life story through his own art interpretation. He for me as an artist is an inspiration to follow as I definitely learn from his "flow and movement", but his hospitality and consideration to the client as the artist. Thank you #yellowblaze
Great video, and Shige's work is phenomenal. Amazing body suit, many people don't appreciate how difficult it is to do work that flows with the body so well
Realy nice bodysuit and it's extra cool that John is a retired firefighter. Many of the first people to wear full bodysuits in Japan were firefighters. I'm not entirely sure why the title of the video needed the dollar amount as the front and main tagline. It's very impressive and quite intricate. We all know tattoos are expensive, especially when it takes time and research to find the right artist and sit through the experience.
This video is amazing. If anyone loves Shige but doesn't want to travel internationally, I'd recommend you to check out Jeff Gogue! They are friends and you can see that Shige greatly inspired Gogue.
"If you could go back in time and give yourself advice what would it be?" I'd start earlier. "What advise would you give to someone thinking of getting a tattoo or even a full bodysuit like you?" Wait.
Thank you for your comment! This was a very fun video to make all around! The amazing tattoos of Shige and the personal story from John. I’m just lucky to be able to capture some of it🙌
@@moshymosh Yea, I guess. Just insanely expensive. I have a bunch of tattoos from world class artists, my tattoos were expensive, but probably 20% of this price.
if he did 14 trips with 4 sessions each trip, thats 56 sessions. then 100,000* / 56 sessions is about 1,785.71* each session and thats also probably before any tip* if any, so it seems plausible (correct me if im wrong 😭) (yes not including flights/lodging/travel)
People need to realize when it comes to the price point is that every tattoo artist charges differently there’s no price for tattoos you can go to a regular tattoo artist and if you want a butterfly, you might charge you 100 bucks or 150 but if you go to world famous award-winning artist $5000 for that same butterfly just because of the fame And what people need to realize about this guy’s tattoos this is the style that you want people always want to see like hyper, realistic, tattoos, or whatever but this is what he wanted could have gone better work yes, he could
So he said 8-10 hour sessions, 4 sessions a trip, 2+ trips a year for 7+ years. By my math, that's realistically over 500 tattoo hours! Is that right? How long do Japanese bodysuits typically take?
Yeah, a full suit is like 30-40k. The other 60k would be flights and accommodation probably, I guess, it only takes a month of actual tattoo time if you're going every day without a break. But the way he's done it yeah I can see it, if you're doing several trips and hiring a car, nice hotel etc.
I understand him but im sorry this particular piece is faded...like you can clearly see that. And im quite surprised tbh. The back is cool but the rest is not really legible. I have no problem with the 100k, its just i wonder if he understood his skin under tone🤔
Always wanted to collect from Shige. One of my favorite Japanese tattoo artist. Very hard to book. The process to book is tough. You have to fly to Japan just for a consult and than he will put you on the waiting list. Not the usual just email or call the artist and they will book you in for an appointment. Maybe one day I’ll be able to. 🥲
Yea I gotta agree because it does look faded and I think it's the colors he picked. I'm not sure the skin under tone was taken into full account especially on the sleeves and front. The back is 👍🏾 though.
The other issue that I have with his tattoos, especially in his torso and his arms there’s just too much going on to the point that it looks messy and you have to be like up close in person to really determine what you’re looking at and that’s my biggest issue with his tattoos is that instead of making likea solid image here and there he put so much work around it that he kind of gets lost
This Shinge looks very popular going from the comments I don’t like it at all It’s certainly not bold or strong. It’s more pastel than black. Lines look fairly bodge in places. Looks like something a chick would get. Yeah no thanks.
8:48 these lines look terrible if you zoom in, how is this guy considered a master tattooer? The lines look blotchy and rough, the yellow looks scarred.
If i was elon musk rich i would pay an artist 1 million for 2 tattoo just to say my tattoos are worth a million. This guys tattoos are very very cool tho!
He's lame... he was inspired by hood and yakuza tattoos. The yakuza don't even pay that much for their tatts. Ppl like this make the price of tatts go up.
Yakuza weren’t the only people in Japan to get tattoos, actually a few hundred years ago, Japanese fire fighters would have full bodysuits or back pieces as a form of protection while they were fighting fires, these fire fighters would become local heroes and even started making tattoos a bit popular around Japan before the government made it illegal. So it’s actually pretty fitting for this guy who was a fire fighter to get a bodysuit in Japan. 😗

I love this back piece so much, I actually have photo of it on my pc randomly lol. Shige is incredible

Love Shige work. You can tell right away

Beautiful work by the master Shige!
I’m so happy for this guy worked so hard. Then got some of the coolest tattoos ever
Props to the editor on this video, the music and added photos are really nice!
awesome work !!!
Great video, and Shige's work is phenomenal. Amazing body suit, many people don't appreciate how difficult it is to do work that flows with the body so well

Shige is an OG
Beautiful art! And awesome video/editing 🔥
No matter how much I look at the tattoo its still mind blowing! Thanks for the comment🙏
This piece is epic! I got my first tattoo 3 days ago - it's a small stick and poke of a very special symbol/logo
More Japanese style tattoos coverage please!
This body suit is insane, the investment was worth it
Great work shige san

Great video, very personal insight 👊

That's gorgeous. Very beautiful.
🔥 let's go John! #yellowblaze
I don’t have any tats, but I think this is cool AF, and I think they look great on people. I just never had the hankering for it.
Beautiful story. Thank you for sharing :)

Awesome video and subject.
Glad you enjoyed the video🙌 thank you for the comment🙏
Shige is self taught and was a motorbike mechanic been following him for a long time
amazing brother
Very cool
$100,000 though? I don't see it. Full back $10k, 4 sleeves(arms+legs) maybe $20k, where's the other 70k?
Oh, damn. Maybe that's just the price for that artist.

his top 1 in the world
@@moshymoshyour right
you have a beautiful body suit...
So good
Loooove the art but his sleeves are just not on par with the Phoenix and back piece, it looks like 2 different artists did them imo
so sick
looks like a work from nick (sokertattoo) from 808 tattoo in kaneohe!?
I mean with the cost of traveling idk how that could be so expensive but also cool story
No way over charged for the story 🙌

name of the shop they’re in currently?
Elysian Tattoo Gallery in Sacramento,CA
Just fk'n Dope.

He may be counting travel expenses as part of the tattoo cost.
Ohh nvm
He literally said 100k not counting other expenses. Only on the tattoo. A bit ridiculous tbh
@@Tommy_Ace52 yeah buddy had money to blow.
100 grand doesn’t make sense ! What are the rates? 500 an hour

Looks faded af for 100k. Did he work for Ephemeral at the time? 😂😂
Looks pretty solid to me, have you seen more of Shige’s work?
Yea I gotta agree because it does look faded and I think it's the colors he picked. I'm not sure the skin under tone was taken into full account especially on the sleeves and front. The back is 👍🏾 though.
I really don’t like that yellow on the chest the back is amazing
tatoos getting mad expensive i love it
This is an exception tbh. Only super top of the line can charge this rate and Shige is one of them for sure.

You should look at more of his work honestly, look up Jeff Gogue’s back piece or Tomo’s back piece
@@Maudtattoos look up Garth b neale 😂😂 honestly
I have my back and ass and legs and arms
And etc
This is fluff for 🧁s
100k I buy an house.
Shige’s still is very difficult to read. Not my style but he is popular however not a very traditional Japanese artist.
My guy looks like a Japanese Elon musk
Super cool,, but 100k..... jesus
He’ll never be able to go to Japanese onsens anymore
There are onsens that allow them.
8:48 these lines look terrible if you zoom in, how is this guy considered a master tattooer? The lines look blotchy and rough, the yellow looks scarred.
Should probably brush up on the background of people before you run your mouth.
tbh - i expected better work than this from someone so highly regarded. tattoos are average.
lol

Baller moves😂
$100,000 tattoo on an unfit frame is a waste of
id be a waste to cover up a ripped bod with tatts
ripped off
100k u got robbed
total waste of money!
All that ink, on a muffin top
