    Well, if you don't have cuttings, you have to go from seed! I got some fruit from the store months ago, and it has taken them at least 30-60 days to attain 3-4" height. But I don't worry, because as the warmer weather comes back, they will grow exponentially!

    I let them sit on the counter, enjoying their beauty, until soft like a ripe persimmon. It really brings out the sweetness and tropical flavors. If they aren't fully ripe like this I prefer to boil them and add fresh onion cilantro and hot peppers for a lovely exotic salsa. Both ways they kind of loose the strange taste they may otherwise have.
    Also seem to be having success keeping possums out of the cherry tree with a piece of bamboo rhizome barrier that is smooth and 2 feet tall wrapped around the trunk. I hear it works for rats also, anything too slippery to climb. Also trimming and training with string away from surrounding bridge plants.

    When mine was hit with aphids (its just forming its first fruit now) I sprayed it every day or second day with watered down vinegar just on the underside of the leaves. This worked well after a while of doing it, and the tree seems to be free of them now. I also blasted many off with a hose which helps.

    My Tamarillo tree has been hit hard with aphids and spidermites here in Czech Republic, but it's still growing and producing fruit. It's crazy how resilient they're. However, I have different cultivar than everyone else, because my seeds are not black. I find that interesting.

      Are they resistant to cold?

      Hmm, my seeds aren’t black either. And the fruits are orange.

    Lovely to look at a tamarillo growing in all its glory. Also good to know that it doesn’t like full sun nor wind. The location was going to put mine has both so I will have to look for another spot.

    Hi, nice video about tamarillo's. I noticed you call that insect an aphid, but it's not an aphid. It's a whitefly. Although several species of whitefly may cause some crop losses simply by sucking sap when they are very numerous, the major harm they do is indirect. Firstly, they secrete large amounts of honeydew that support unsightly or harmful infestations of sooty mold. Secondly, they inject saliva that may harm the plant more than either the mechanical damage of feeding or the growth of the fungi. However, by far their major importance as crop pests is their transmission of diseases of plants. In warm or tropical climates and especially in greenhouses, whiteflies present major problems in crop protection. Worldwide economic losses are estimated at hundreds of millions of dollars annually.

    Calendula are winter flowers, edible, and they are great for deterring aphids from your plants, extremely easy to germinate

    Great video! Thx a lot! Question: how long are the cuttings you take for propagation please? And do you leave it in water and wait for the roots or straight into the pot?

    Wow what an amazing fruit tree. I have one still in its infancy. I was really worried about the amount of leaf damage from small insects on the underside of the leaves, but it seems to have survived okay. I’ll make sure I use frost cloth so that it will hopefully make it through the winter. Do you have any tips on fertilisers, and what type of soil it prefers etc ? Many thanks from New Zealand ❤

    • @RealLifeFruitopia
      @RealLifeFruitopia  ปีที่แล้ว

      Although i get regular frosts in winter, I've never protected mine. Feed with any slow release fertiliser.

      You can chop it back severely after you have harvested all the fruit. It will grow back into a thicker tree.
