This commentator has no idea. It’s no coincidence that both Melbourne and St Kilda didn’t bid on Kako considering the pick swaps that were done, and no doubt a gentleman’s handshake…
The bid would have been made prior to pick 9 if Essendon did not trade the pick. They would have had no leverage to attempt to live trade on the night.
Fire Michael Ablett, how you can label him a “Draft Expert” is beyond me… giving him that label is such a massive disrespect to Cal Twomey and Kevin Sheehan who actually are knowledgeable on the subject
Pretty sure Melbourne or St Kilda would of said in trade negotiations for pick 9 that if you dont hand it over, we're going to bid on Kako before essendons pick and hence rendering it worthless. Bombers got great value for it with the dees pick next year, which could honestly have a decent chance of being a top 3 pick if they continue to slide. That Ablett bloke should not be on tv, got no idea
Demons fan here. I think it was win / win for both clubs. Cal Twomey said it was the only way to get Kako for sure and made sense. They got their man. Demons got to move up and get Lindsay. Only slight knock I suppose on the deal for the bombers is we aren’t a bottom four list, squad wise. Major Injuries to Trac, Salem, Oliver, Gawn last year. Think demons may bounce up . Again, decent trade of picks for me. Norths Whitlock pick trade exchange was the crazy one. North will hardly bounce so they gave a big pick up next year .
I'm sorry to say but as an Essendon fan, I think you guys will place 11th or lower, making the trade worth it (for both clubs). But, there is still a chance you guys go lower because of a few things. 1. Gawn is only gonna be older, those extra months COULD make a big difference especially after injury. 2. Petracca is much the same, he is going to be coming back from a near fatal accident with the injuries to match. 3. The corruption in the management (something essendon fans are very familiar with) will make it much harder for your club to succeed. Nothing is guaranteed and we can only wait but you guys gave us a future first and second rounder + a number of other things, for a first rounder and a future third. Unless you guys finish in the finals the trade was well worth it for us.
@ yep, I agree as I stated first off, win for both. Pick sliding if demons bounce well isn’t massive either. I think we could make the 8. So not terrible for bombers either if we do. You got your guy.
you had 6 weeks to plan for live trades in the event that a bid came. North gave their future 1st for pick 27 ... what would have a team given for pick 9?
Turned 9 into a future second from a bottom 4 club, and a future first, all while still getting a top 13 player, of which pick 9 became pick 11........ What an absolute Numpty.
Essendon got awesome value for pick 9 and if they kept the pick then it 100% would have got bid on earlier. The media running with this story is stupid
Couldn't disagree more. It's easy to make a call like this when you know the outcome but given the information Essendon has at the time .. they made the right call ... every team is looking for a certain type of player so it's not just the best player but the best one for what the club needs.
Literally guaranteed being able to take the best small forward in the draft. Didn't want to use pick 9 to do it. Probably tried trading up to get above a potential bid, no-one wanted to trade down that far. Also had almost no other picks in this super draft. Although they didn't get a second top pick in this draft (take Kako as their first), they got a future first AND multiple later picks to take more players and match the bid. Imagine this bloke if they had kept the pick and the Dees or StK decided to bid on Kako, swallowing up number 9 to pay for it. If they had tried a live trade at a bid, they would have got rolled for peanuts in desperation. This would have to be up there with one of the more un-informed comments I have heard for a while, from a supposed 'draft guru'.
Aside from the fact that they just recruited 5 players. Rosa has converted #9, 20something and a future 3rd to Kako; Dees' future 1st and 3rd and St Kilda's future 2nd, on top of the players drafted
what a joke.Football and the AFL have lost the plot . 1 draft and pick. You have destroyed the game as your focus is only on the AFL . Most of these kids will not make it. WAKE UP AFL .
Relax, the club had an opportunity to get the kid with the lucky change of Academy rules and committed to him early. We need more of this excitement, I hope we deliver in development to this kid!
Sorry but Essendon stuffed up and it show in years to come, Essendon had their chances to get deep into this years draft No Stringer will hurt + They missed out on Harry Armstrong. Grade D-
No we couldn't have because both St Kilda and Melbourne would have made a bid on him early and we already had a piss poor draft hand to begin with courtesy of Adrian Dodoro's infinite wisdom.

Rosa did the right thing. Essendon now have two picks in next years draft. The only regret I have is that we lost out on Anderson.
if we kept the pick a team could of easily had a bid early

@@tb7667 can you live trade if someone has already made a bid??
@@tb7667 On the night, when if we don't trade it we lose it. Not much at all.
@@Ev1l_Gumby North just gave a probable top 5 pick for pick 27.
@@tb7667 You assume other clubs are dumb enough to pay up like North did for 27
We get kako for free plus additional picks in the second round (apparentky deep draft) and then melbournes first next year ... Its not a disaster jeez
Essendon made the right call, who are these guys commentating with no idea?

not going to lie, name the person who actually said that without looking him up
Essendon aren’t interested in drafts period
Aside from the fact that they just recruited 5 players. Rosa has converted #9, 20something and a future 3rd to Kako; Dees' future 1st and 3rd and St Kilda's future 2nd, on top of the players drafted
I watched this knowing it would trigger me !

No finals again for bombers this season
We deserve to finish bottom 4 with the awful list we have.
I'm more surprised about Scott not sitting there with his arms crossed looking unimpressed 😅
Wow Mick Ablett was all flavours of flog during the entire coverage. No. Idea.
what are d/head Essendon did better coming out of this then going in
Draft expert? More like a daft expert..micky just sit down mate..you know nothing
you know nothing about the draft
The draft is so busted, need a 4 year bachelors degree to know what’s going on
Haha!
Trash take

Another stupid hairdo for the bombers.
Was always a mistake. Rookie list manager. Could’ve genuinely waited til the night

Sold our birthright
I agree with the comment, Essendon are crazy the list manager won’t last long
