For me, Bluey is basically taking a textbook on child psychology and parenting skills and turning the lessons into games and hidden messages that adults can notice.

The thing people forget about Bluey is, these are 8 minutes out of their entire day. People think they're always playing with the kids, but that's just one game out of an entire day. As the show progresses, we see more episodes where the parents are trying to get the kids to school, complete chores, do work, and run errands. There's a bunch of episodes I'm excited for you to see for various reasons, but most of them are from season 2 onward and certain episodes hit harder depending on lived experiences.

    • @MattTOB618
      @MattTOB618 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +4

I mean, for the young kids watching these, many can't use that kind of deeper reasoning yet (at least, not if someone doesn't help them through it). If all they see is the parents playing along every episode, then that'd likely be their assumption for what happens off-screen, and could easily become their expectation for reality, regardless of the in-universe timespan. So his point is still valid, and it's good that the show takes breaks from that formula.

Runtime and the depicted passage of time are rarely ever 1-to-1 though. The movie '127 Hours' would be an even tougher watch if that were the case. The Heelers definitely have an abundance of time (and energy and patience) to play with their kids

Studying zoologist here! (Not quite a marine biologist) but enough knowledge to inform you that a Blue whale (Balaenoptera musculus) could not swallow a dog, unless it was diced into tiny pieces. Blue whales like all members of the Group order Mysticetes (Baleen whales) have throats typically 7-9 inches in diameter or as many say in visual terms “roughly the size of a human fist” which is why their diet is restricted to plankton, krill or small schooling fish species.
The only whale capable of potentially swallowing anything larger than that would be a Sperm whale (Physeter macrocephalus) which belongs to the toothed whale group Odontocetes (also comprises Orca, dolphins, porpoises).

My favorite line, I tell my kids when they wanted to constantly plan Bluey games is, “The Heelers are dogs and dogs have more energy then people.”😉. Also Bluey episodes are 7-9 minutes, so when I can, I’ll say, “Sure I can play for 10 minutes, but then I have to… make dinner, clean, whatever. No parent can be always on like Bandit:)

I distinctly remember my preschool playground in 1989 being covered in wood chips and gravel. Somehow splinters and rocks were safer around that merry-go-round of doom than just dirt. Everything was a death trap, down to the fact that there was a low chain link fence right in front of the swings so we would try to swing high enough that we could jump off and over it.

I remember when I was well enough to, there were some times I just decided “nah, not even bothering with the bus today. My music is good to go, and it’s only a couple of hours max, the sun’s up, why not just walk home?” when I would visit the other end of town. About ten minute drive, half hour on the bus, but there was always that nice feeling of just walking and listening to the MP3s I had, maybe stopping in at a takeaway place on the way to get ice cream or a drink or something.
I don’t really know why I enjoyed it, I just did. Which was funny because I hated exercise.

You are doing great Jay ❤
Becoming a parent is wanting to do the best for your kids while juggling all your other responsibilities with less time and on less sleep. You are constantly learning and adapting as soon as you mastered a stage, the kid moves on to the next. Sometimes even if I know I need sleep, I stay up just to get some time to myself or yes put the TV on longer. Best advice I can give is to remember you matter too and don’t judge other parents too harshly (like if you see a parent on the phone at the playground) as we all are doing our best but sometimes need a break.

One of the best things I learned from a children's therapist was that they don't need your attention all day. Just be willing to check in when they play and give them 5 or 10 minutes of your full attention throughout the day on those bust days. Example: when I'm in the kitchen and I get "Mommy, look at the robot I made from lego!", I go and let them explain it all to me and talk for a minute. If I can't, I let them know why and as soon as I have a moment I try to give them that. Just that alone has done wonders for me.

I was a kid when the area i lived in were doing the transition from wood metal playgrounds to plastic metal playgrounds. From what I observed more kids got injured on the plastic ones than the wood ones due to having more spinning contraptions on them. Did not know what the planners/school board was thinking on that.
Also i think they transitioned due to wood needing more maintenance, cuz they needed to replace beams every several years.

The equipment in 'pirates' is re-purposed conveyor belt rubber. Super hot in summer but very strong for jumping etc

"The kids aren't around; why are they still committing to the bit so hard?" MatPat uses that exact question as the crux of his film theory that Bluey and Bingo have magical mind-controlling powers 😂

Heeler is their last name as they are Blue Heelers which is an australian cattle dog. Chili is a red heeler.

Their surnames are "Heeler" because they're Blue and Red Heeler dogs, another name for the Australian Cattle Dogs. :)

Okay, but here's the thing on your last point: Not all children's TV is created equal. Sesame Street is so good in part because 1. It's based on measurable skills like reading and numbers, not socioemotional learning which is a lot more subjective and 2. It's backed by a dedicated research department that is a leader in its field. So while kids who watch Sesame Street with parents get the most benefit, they still benefit from watching alone because the team behind it is dedicated to making good educational content. But a lot of children's tv is not educational or not research backed or has ulterior motives of marketing to kids. So being babysat by tv is not 100% a bad thing, but very much depends on what the kids are watching.

I feel you, Jay, on starting to get worn out on the too-high level of expectations on parents in the first half of this season. I loved this show right off the bat but started to resent Bandit and Chili for making me look bad 😂 Like, damn, I can’t compete with this and I don’t want my kids to expect this time availability because I don’t have it! (I too was not blessed with Grey Gardens money.) A lot of my mom friends felt the same way too. We must not have been the only ones because soon you’ll see more episodes of realistic parenting and everyday struggles and it makes the series even better. Love love your and Adam’s reactions to this show and looking forward to you guys watching the whole thing!
(Forgive me if I’ve already posted this next part in a past comment, my memory sucks) The show originally started out as a show for adults about parenting covering issues like infertility and mastitis and gnarly pregnancy stuff but then the studio changed the focus to children but I’ve read that the creators hope to do a more adult-geared spin off in the future 🤞🏽🤞🏽🤞🏽

You’ve seen a handful of recommended episodes, but I don’t want you to get the misconception that the “big” episodes will be like them - you should be excited, some of the Season 2 episodes are going to stun you.
