To my knowledge Sleepy time was the highest rated episode of all time for a while until some anime enthusiasts got butt hurt it overtook their shows and they review bombed it
Assuming you’re talking about Attack on Titan, those episodes deserved to be ranked where they are, BUT sleepy time is a perfect episode of television! PS. Jay and Adam, you should watch attack on Titan.
In Sleepytime, we see the difference between a Dad and a non-Dad watching. I swear, before I had kids, stuff like this didn't affect me AT ALL. It's cute, making jokes, all that...but then your kids arrive. This was the first episode of Bluey we watched, and Jay, you and me man, bawling...BAWLING... It's like now, every kid I see in a show like this, it's my kid. So they say "I have to go now, I'm a big girl..." That is my daughter saying that. That's my baby growing up and not needing me anymore, and going off into the wilderness to be her own person. Emotions hit so different as a dad. My daughter started high school this year. I've been a wreck...
I remember my first day of high school I had to do a brief jog back to my moms car so I could hug her because she was crying. She was just understandably emotional seeing her baby walking into a big high school.
As a mom, this episode made me cry every time. Then my mom died, and I sob just listening to it. The idea of a child's mother being the source of light and warmth in their universe...
Truly my favorite moments are when there's this stark contrast of Bluey being a heartful reflection of parenthood to Jay and a birth control PSA for Adam, often in the SAME scene 😂😂
The moment when Bingo says "I have to go, I'm a big girl now" is always makes me cry, such a beautiful scene and just the best child voice acting ever.
5:24 up until Sleepytime, Bluey was something I had playing in the background for my kids while I did other things around the house. When I heard this part, I recognized it as “Jupiter” by Gustav Holst from when I played it with my college band. I couldn’t believe a children’s show would feature music like that and I began paying way more attention to this great little show.
I was washing the dishes in our kitchen while my kids were watching Bluey. My oldest came in and asked me to watch an episode with them because it was "so special". It's not the last time they did that with a Bluey episode, but I will always remember the first time I watched sleepytime, cuddled up with my kids on our couch. Incredible episode.
yep. its very hard for non-parents to get what kids do to your brain. they re-wire you. and no one can explain it to you or make you understand. its not a good or bad thing. its just a thing.
Sleepytime hits hard as no other shows really approach something specifically addreesing children learning to sleep alone and understanding that they are growing up. and the Mum is their sun. Also love the fact that Adam has no idea as a non Dad about the feels you get from the episode. Also, looking forward to you watching so many episodes which are coming up. Too many to list.
Yeahhh bluey does that OFTEN. Babyrace is another thatll do that to you. This is a warning nit a suggestion. I said what i said, do what you will with that info 😂
3:40 during this scene Bluey APPEARS in Bingo's dream because we can see her running with Bingo and both kicking Bandit in real life, which has some implications for her dream-related ability
I’m a childless adult and I shamelessly sob every time I put bluey on tv when I’m with family, the feels is what makes bluey special to me. Plus that’s how I made my mom and sister pay more attention to it’s details and love bluey too :)
Adam always performs instead of authentically reacting and this is nothing new with Bluey. It’s just more noticeable when it’s right next to Jay having authentic emotions. It’s hilarious that you can actually see the split second when he looks at Jay at the end and thinks, “oh shit, normal people probably had an emotional reaction to that episode and I talked over it”. If they had a patreon where Adam was muted and his half of the screen black out, I’d pay for it.
I tear up every time I watch this episode. Particularly at the montage at the end and the speck of dust floating over the glass of water. I remember when my daughter was smaller and would wake several times a night. The exhaustion was real don’t get me wrong but I would look at her sleeping in my arms and my heart would swell like the overture of that score. BTW The score is from classical composer Gustav Holst “the Planets” and the dream planets corresponded with the planet of the overture. There are also several Easter eggs (lol) that will pay off later. This is where the world building really hits its stride.
One thing that's so amazing about Sleepytime is it shows kids processing seperation anxiety. The glass of water, singing in on the toliet, sleeping in parent's bed, those are all things kids do to be reassured that their parents are there for them (especially at night when they might be feeling all alone) If kids get enough reassurance, then they can become independent, knowing that their parent is there for them even when kids can't see the parents
that thumbnail is so real LMFAO sleepytime always makes me bawl, it just reminds me of my mom and how much she's always tried her best for me and how much love a mom and her daughter have between them.
Sleepytime hits harder as an adult watching their parents get old... Edit- You mentioned an episode demonstrating pushing parents too far. Just wait until Sheep Dog lol.
This is why no matter how many times I watch Sleepytime I cry like a baby. Thinking of my own mother getting older and hearing Chilli say, "I'll always be here for you, even when you can't see me" just breaks me every time.
In Australia, we sometimes call markers ‘pens’. They aren’t ballpoint pens or anything like that; they’re closer to the markers that connect to each other
My son's autistic hyperfixation has always been outer space. The first time I saw Sleepytime I sobbed like a baby. Then I saw Sticky Gecko, and let me tell you I have never related so hard to a TV parent.
My son's also autistic. And watching Sleepytime was the very first time i felt a connection with him. When Chili said " I'll always be here, even if you can't see me. Because i love you". He looked up at me and smiled. And 3 years later he still does it. I cry everytime i watch it. It will be one of my fondest memories forever ❤
The use of classical music from this season forward in this show is so amazing. Akin to the way Looney Tunes introduced classical to many in previous generations. Jupiter is among my favorite pieces of all time! 🎼🎵
Gustav Holst's The Planets and specifically this piece "Jupiter" is one of my favorite pieces of music. It's just so fantastically beautiful and emotional, so much so that the middle section was turned into a hymn.
22:46 sometimes you have to take a step and think "is a minute of discomfort worth my child's happiness?" Sometimes its really annoying things like a cold shower, but you've done it before and youve survived. Its small things like that where sometimes you have to think, this is going to suck but the smile on my kids face, or the lesson ive taught them makes up for it
My son will be 3 in a few weeks and part of his bedtime routine is watching sleepytime and then the end credits roll he says mama tubbie. And he runs to the bathroom, have a bath, then pjs and cuddles before bed and hes out like a light. Even though ive watched the episode probably 1000 times i still ball everytime and as he got holder he holds my hand now while we watch. Just our mama son time. 💙
Hey, I've seen Sleepytime so many times and I still cried watching it with you both lol. There's just something about Bingo seeing her Mum as the sun that gets me every time.
Sleepy Time and Rug Island back to back, the parental feels one-two punch! There is nothing I love more than getting emotional along with Jay over cartoon dogs!
I knew Sleepytime was going to wreck Jay, but seeing Adam blithely cracking jokes about Bingo blowing up the planet, not noticing that Jay is red-faced and weeping, was the cherry on top.
"Sleepytime" is the episode that sold me on Bluey. I was watching a therapist react to this episode (as a great deal of the episode is a metaphor for separation anxiety) and, not only was I shocked at how well a "kids" show was able to tell a story with barely any dialogue, but the also used "Jupiter: the Bringer of Jollity" from Gustav Holst's "The Planets" suite in a way I've never seen anyone utilize it and it is ABSOLUTE PERFECTION (100% cried from being moved by the music and message). It should also be noted that everyone represents different planets for a reason. Bandit, of course, is Jupiter as he's the Bringer of Jollity (like the classical piece is named), Chilli is the Sun for her warmth, and Bluey and Bingo are Venus and Earth for...well, I can't say because that might spoil some lore...but you'll know when you reach it in The Show (let's just say...Mercury represents something, too).
Not sure if you heard about the miscarriage theory, but an interesting detail they added in Sleepytime is Bingo hatching from Earth, the third planet from the sun. This basically confirms that even though Bingo is Chili's second child, she was also Chili's third pregnancy.
^^ I KNEW One of them was gonna cry at Sleepytime! That episode's one of the best episodes in the entire series and he's NOT the first nor last person to cry over THAT!
The end of sleepytime when the score really becomes the focus is so amazing. The Jupiter piece from planets is already so great, but then the added context just drags tears out of the eyes
Adam’s Sleepytime reaction cracked me up compared to Jay’s😂 That’s most definitely the reaction of a man who loves and respects his sleep hahaha. I do have to say that Jay’s reactions are exactly what I wished my dad could have been (just selfless and all about his kid,) I’m sure that’s why this series is as wholesome & fulfilling as it is for most of us. Keep it up kings
The real hack of Sleepytime is Holst's Jupiter, especially the hymn section. Something about that orchestration has always made me feel things, even when I was playing it onstage. It's so intensely warm. I don't know how else to describe it.
This show just encapsulates what being a parent looks and feels like and draws your attention to the things as a parent you may not be noticing in real time
YIPPIE!! i’ve been so excited to see u guys witness sleepytime ☺️ its such a beautiful episode, i totally was just like jay when i first watched it. the symbolism is so sweet and it both warms and aches my heart at the same time 🫂 also petition for cha boys to get a pulley system 🙌 the beautiful chaos that could ensue LOL idk why but my first though was u guys watching something tear-jerking-and then without looking away from the screen-adam just hooks a tissue box up to it and slowly squeaks it over to jay so he could wipe his eyes 😭😭 no reaction, just **squeak squeak squeak**
As if sleeptime wouldn't get you, like that. Prepare for more of that as the show evolves, just saying, onesies. Also over here they're called "Textas" and those specifically are called "connectors". The design means you can clip them side by side, or length wise. It promotes play like that, but is also great for storage, keeping them together.
On boundaries: I think it's a good idea to teach kids the boundaries everyone has. Parents can set boundaries with safety or just 'we need to get stuff done which supercedes some of what you want. But it also overrides stuff _I_ want, so hey. That's life!' But also show them they can control their own boundaries, like the 'relatives can't hug or kiss you if you don't want them to.'
I was here! I am here until the end and I even added in some extra "hoorays!". Fantastic reaction. Sleepytime is so beautiful and funny and whimsical and full of feels. On Rug Island - they are definitely pens but they are some special kind I've never seen because they have the bottom/top attachment AND magnetic attachment at the caps. Super cool though. I loved that moment in Sticky Gecko where Chilli gives Bluey The Look - it's such a mom thing! I remember getting that look as a kid and giving it to my kid. He's 10 now so he is feeling less Bluey love but he'll get hyped when a new episode comes out - the years are going by fast. I appreciate the memories we made even more now.
The symbolism of Bandit being Jupiter aka king of the planets, but Chilli being the sun. Bingo being the Earth, Bluey being Venus, but Mercury not hatching, for those who know why, know why. Especially if you also have seen the episode, The Show.
Sleepytime and Rug Island, 2 absolutely beautiful and emotional episodes back to back ^u^ (also yeah the episode order seems to be VERY different in Disney+, funnily enough in airing order the episode right next to Sleepytime is also one that hits hard as well) also i think the thing with Lucky's dad is that both him and Bandit have some agreement that whatever shenanigans is going on with their kids, they go along with it to not break the magic, also considering Lucky is older than Bluey so he understands
Also, I think the felt pens are actually markers? I'm pretty sure my British in laws call markers felt pens, and Australia is basically just a bigger, hotter, more dangerous version of the UK.
Not surprised Jay cried at sleepytime, the first time I saw it with the kids I nannied, I was also kinda emotional. The incredible use of Holst's 'The Planets,' the beautiful imaginative animation. This episode is really a work of art.
Ooooh, ya'll are in it now. And I mean that in the best ways. Ya'll are one of two 'react' channels I follow. Child free household, and I cried like a baby at Sleepytime, and Rug Island, and ... yah. Thanks for this. EDIT: Also, those are totally pens. They just interconnect. No magnets.
I think why Sleepytime is so powerful is because while it's easy to pinpoint what the children learn and the parents, such as learning to do things on your own or learning to step back and allow your child to find their own way, as a recent graduate, and one that's getting up there in age where I'm expected to start my own family, this episode addresses a very major moment everyone in life experiences at some point. For me, it reminds me that even though I have to grow up and make my own life, even when I struggle or fumble or don't succeed and even when I do well and have my victories and confidence, no matter what I do, I have people who love me who always will and that I can always come back to or remember times with them to keep me afloat. Right now I'm blessed I still have both my parents, but I think even when I'm half a country away, their influence and love kept me trying. Sleepytime reminds me of that unconditional love we crave from a safe place.
Sleepy time has a beautiful score. When I hear the music the moment where Bingo feels the warm of the sun (which is her moms hugs and love) i just feel like crying. Seeing a mom love her kid so much it’s just touching
5:02 - Keep an eye on Jay's face from this point on until the end of Sleepytime. His eyes, his mouth, his overall expression. That is all. Edit: In the patreon edition you can see where he finally 'breaks'. He's on the verge, already emotional, and right after Chili's dialogue he turns his head and looks to the side to take in what he just witnessed, and it's all tears from then on.
I love you both but as a guy with two kids you can tell who has kids and who doesn't. Sleepytime is for people who have dealt with kids at night and it's beautiful. You do everything for them to make sure they are okay even if it means you are inconvenienced or miss a few hours of sleep. Sleepytime has music that is on par with Hans Zimmer.
9:30 In Australia there were these markers (Faber-Castell) that had lids with clips on the side, so you can clip them together to make a long line of markers and keep them together at school. Theyre a staple of childhood and often you would play with the markers rather then draw with them
Sleepy time is special! The ending montage of the house and everyone asleep is true peace. As a father that makes it all worth it. Walking around a peaceful with everyone safe is a little slice of heaven
22:12...... This is the one thing the show purposely doesn't try to answer because that's the purpose of YOUR parenting style. It depends on YOUR world that you've brought your child into and that's what no other parent can judge the others for. There's no set limit and this episode not only doesn't answer it but Chili & Bandit Look into the camera when they're saying "HOORAY!" as if they're actors doing their own stunts. It's a show and they're all aware of it at times and this episode is a perfect depiction of that because the kids are simply playing to their fullest. Enjoy all the wonders with your kid because they ARE your tightest homie! They will defend you, root for you and check on you more than anyone. And the way I've found that balance is by being my child's friend without misusing or missing out on my opportunity to be their guide on this weird @#$&in' planet. PS -Jay, from one father to another. You're doing @#$&ing great Dude.
Sleepy time is the most impactful piece of Television I have seen in a very long time. I lost my mom a couple years ago and after watching this episode I could not stop crying it's both comforting and saddening put me on they did such a good job with knocking the feels the animation and the story out of the park
IM STILL HERE. Stacking cups was HUGE in my highschool in the late 00s. They were NUTS with how fast they were. What was hilarious was getting the same people years later at a college party and see if they can time while drunk 😂
Probably my son's most watched episode. Dance mode used to be his only watch but one day he saw this and now he snuggles with a blanket while he sings to the music. I try to make sure I always repeat Chilli's lines to him.
Sleepytime is just a moving episode of television about growing up and not needing your parents the same way you always did before. The use of Holst is kind of cheating because it's also one of the greatest single pieces of music ever, but it fits thematically and organically and holy crap it's such a good episode of tv.
Sticky gecko is one of my all time favorite. Trying to leave the house with 2+ kids is one of the most trying things ever lol. And this episode depicts it beautifully. Also, Jay, you’re on the right track. It is trial and error. You’ll know when it’s a reasonable request/play with your kids vs something that makes you actually uncomfortable or upset. You learn as you go! Also, I’m still here lol
To my knowledge Sleepy time was the highest rated episode of all time for a while until some anime enthusiasts got butt hurt it overtook their shows and they review bombed it
Luckily The Sign is still in the top ten I think
Yep; it was a 10 for a long time on IMDB until a review bombing dropped it to a 9.8.
people are such babies lmao
Assuming you’re talking about Attack on Titan, those episodes deserved to be ranked where they are, BUT sleepy time is a perfect episode of television!
PS. Jay and Adam, you should watch attack on Titan.
the review bombing was a bit excessive, but sleepy time is nowhere near the levels of Ozymandias and the Return to Shiganshina arc IMO
"How do you guide a child, but also rejoice in life with them?" You just asked the hardest question of parenting.
Yeah tell me when you figure this out Jay 😂
i think boundaries both ways kind of helps this along xD
We need cold water
You: Wait I'm allergic to cold water I'll melt away 😢
you just.....figure it out as you go.
As soon as you said "Sleepytime," I started Palpatine-laughing. "Yesss.... Good... Let the tears flow from you..."
idk, he could have gotten upset and began cup staking. ...which makes me wish he got mad more xD lol
I've always said there are three audiences for Bluey: kids, people with kids, and people who were once kids.
@@quizzicalsphinx I’m in the “people who were once kids” boat. This show reminds me a lot of me and my sister playing together 💕

IT'S SLEEPYTIME, BLUEY GOBLINS!
Truly my favorite moments are when there's this stark contrast of Bluey being a heartful reflection of parenthood to Jay and a birth control PSA for Adam, often in the SAME scene 😂😂

I’m 33, single, and I have no kids. Tell me why I’ve been waiting for you to watch this episode like it’s the newest Marvel movie?!
Probably for the same reason this 38 year old w/no kids does
And this childless 36 year old!
47.
The same reason some butterflies irritate something into crying so they can slurp up the tears for nutrients.
You are all pdfiles
The pens are Faber Castell Connector Pens. They click together sideways and were the envy of every kid when i was young.

Sleeptime was the first episode that made me cry openly. Hugs to Jay.
31:37 still here 🙋♂️
This was the one I was waiting for. Sleepytime is and will always be my favorite episode of Bluey.
The real hack of Sleepytime is Holst's Jupiter, especially the hymn section. Something about that orchestration has always made me feel things, even when I was playing it onstage. It's so intensely warm. I don't know how else to describe it.
I have been waiting for this like a goblin ALL DAY. ❤
This show just encapsulates what being a parent looks and feels like and draws your attention to the things as a parent you may not be noticing in real time
Holst's Jupiter was the perfect piece for this. The song has the perfect amount of gravitas for the episode.
"Kids don't need to know why everything happens, they just need to know that you are there" beautiful ❤️
Sleepytime was one of the earliest episodes I watched. My nieces are busy running around, playing with each other; I’m bawling on the couch.
YIPPIE!! i’ve been so excited to see u guys witness sleepytime ☺️ its such a beautiful episode, i totally was just like jay when i first watched it. the symbolism is so sweet and it both warms and aches my heart at the same time 🫂
also petition for cha boys to get a pulley system 🙌 the beautiful chaos that could ensue LOL
idk why but my first though was u guys watching something tear-jerking-and then without looking away from the screen-adam just hooks a tissue box up to it and slowly squeaks it over to jay so he could wipe his eyes 😭😭 no reaction, just **squeak squeak squeak**
Sleepytime is one of my favorite episodes of all Bluey.
And the way they integrate music is just soooo good.
SLEEPYTIME!! The episode that makes me cry the hardest.
That's life!'
But also show them they can control their own boundaries, like the 'relatives can't hug or kiss you if you don't want them to.'
Or letting the kids know its okay to speak up if they're playing too rough with them.
@rosenrot234 sometimes you just gotta use your big girl bark!
I am thrilled to get multiple videos today but I have been obsessively checking all day for this!! 😂
Everyone's talking about Sleepytime, but I really appreciate Sticky Gecko. I FEEL that frustration to my core!
There is a lot hidden under the surface of Sleepytime.
The symbolism of Bandit being Jupiter aka king of the planets, but Chilli being the sun.
Bingo being the Earth, Bluey being Venus, but Mercury not hatching, for those who know why, know why. Especially if you also have seen the episode, The Show.
Been checking on this all day! I've had a Sticky gecko on my ceiling for 5 months.
I hope you know I kept setting alarms for this one specifically to be able to watch it asap I’m so normal about Bluey especially Sleepytime
Sleepytime and Rug Island, 2 absolutely beautiful and emotional episodes back to back ^u^ (also yeah the episode order seems to be VERY different in Disney+, funnily enough in airing order the episode right next to Sleepytime is also one that hits hard as well)
also i think the thing with Lucky's dad is that both him and Bandit have some agreement that whatever shenanigans is going on with their kids, they go along with it to not break the magic, also considering Lucky is older than Bluey so he understands
I made it to the cup stacking discussion. I’m with Adam. 😊 Mad skill with those cup stackers.
Awww, I think every parent has that reaction watching Sleepytime for the first time. And the second. And hundredth.
Also, I think the felt pens are actually markers? I'm pretty sure my British in laws call markers felt pens, and Australia is basically just a bigger, hotter, more dangerous version of the UK.
I was crying just like you at Sleepytime Jay 😭😭
Jay is going to be blubbering like a baby. Lol this show gets me in my Dad feels too
SLEEPYTIME!
From one dad to another, *Big Hug*
chilli is literally the centre of bingos universe 😭😭😭🤤
Ohhhhhh we have been waiting for this one! That was the exact reaction I expected from Jay. Mom as the sun is the all the feels Moms everywhere felt.
One of the biggest upgrades Bluey sees in seasons 2 and 3 is that there are WAY more Chili-centric episodes, and they’re all great and relatable
SleepyTime was the one episode that made me cry my eyes out, its the first time that has happened to me.
I love SleepyTime. (It’s one of the highest rated episodes of the show)
I love you both but as a guy with two kids you can tell who has kids and who doesn't.
I knew the Sleepytime episode was gonna mess ya up. It's such a sweet and heartwarming episode.
SLEEPYTIME!!!!
One of the literal best Bluey episodes of all time!!!!
Refusing to accept that they’re pens 😂 They just snap into each other Adam and that includes the sides!
I cried way harder than Jay the first time I watched Sleepytime and still tear up whenever I see the end. It's such a beautiful episode.
PS
-Jay, from one father to another.
Felt pens = textas = coloured markers
Those were connector markers, the lids click together. Those were huge in the 90s, along with scented markers.
they were to coolest textas. you could click them together to make anything. I think they were called faber castell.
@@koolchick211 Yeah! I still remember kids making wrist “armour” and wrist “blasters” if they got the larger packs with more than 12.
Probably my son's most watched episode. Dance mode used to be his only watch but one day he saw this and now he snuggles with a blanket while he sings to the music. I try to make sure I always repeat Chilli's lines to him.
Wow that is so sweet!!! My kids love the sleepy time episode as well which surprises me as they usually prefer the sillier eps.
Still here! Hi, Jay! Hi, Adam. I know nothing about cup stacking but I sure love you guys and your content. Have a great day!
That fishers of pen joke got me lol
This is what we mean by season 2 is better in everyway
