DS-1’s have the greatest practicality of being a treble booster on dark muddy sounding rigs. And if you’re too brash, turning back the tone knob on the guitar really sweetens the tone.
@@realtruenorth I have the Waza DS 1, and the SD1 (not the waza) ....For me, the SD 1 is the ticket. I think I am going to return the WAZA DS 1 and get the SD1W.
The SD1 and DS1 are among the best overdrive and distortion pedals. Super cheap, reliable and long lasting. I’m really just here for the playing which is dope as usual! John Bohlinger is among the best guitarists pedals!
Been playing metal since '78,only pedals I've ever used is a ds1 or proco rat boosted with a tubescreamer, mxr eq and Morley wah ..can't wait to try the new waza ds1....rock on \m/
Cool stuff. I still have my first pedal I ever bought, a ds1. Now I need this waza version because the need for gear is always x=(current collection)+1
I like that the brashness when the tone is at 12 o'clock has an element of a bratty old octave fuzz. The brightness is easily tamed, but likely works well with a darker clean tone and goes nicely with the LP. I've not used a DS1, but I would hazard a guess that it would stack quite well and would slice through a band mix. A dark boost before it could enhance the fuzz like quality it has when goosed into higher gain settings.
Don't ever put anything in the middle on a DS-1 except the level control.I have the Wasa DS-1 and i set the distortion on 0 and the tone at 9 a clock. The best boost pedal in the world! So fast forward to 12.00 and there you have the sound.
I noticed the Les Paul truss rod cover is strangely and suspiciously missing. I fear it unfortunately has (along with missing guitar picks ) fell victim to being abducted, violated and probed by aliens then sold on the ITGM. ( Intergalactic Trafficking Guitar Market.)
The more I hear the Waza DS-1's tone, the more I appreciate pedals like the Wampler Pinnacle 😂 The DS-1 just lacks something, and it has a very digital and thin fizzy quality to it
The biggest mistake I see with people reviewing the DS-1 is playing it through the clean channel of fender style amps. This pedal sounds amazing if you throw it through an amp that's already kind of broken up. When they first released it, most working musicians playing rock music were playing Marshalls with the gain dimed out. You throw this pedal on top of that with the gain lowered down and the volume low enough to not hiss, and this pedal rules. I think it's just kind of assumed that you should use it on a clean amp because our idea of distortion now is using a clean amp with a pedal. This really was just a heavier overdrive from it's time.
It can get fizzy for sure but its an all analog pedal. Most pedals with a fizzy top end do best into overdriven amps, that way they blend with the tube preamp
Stop using terms that only exist in ‘purist’ echo chambers. A DS1 doesn’t sound digital as there’s no conversion to create aliasing artefacts if it’s low quality. It’s ‘thin’ because it isn’t meant for deluxe reverbs set to 2, it likes a loud mid-forward British amp. Some of its most famous users are well known for maxing out the mids on their amps. But it’s not boutique and doesn’t have a waiting list, so just throw all the generic derogatory terms at it just so others on TGP who have no clue about audio think you’re cool.
I’m one of those guitar players who will make a pedal sound good vs douches who just plug into whatever with whatever setting and sound like crap! they simply don’t think about their set ups
Jeez. Boss needs to reissue the FZ-2. The most sold pedal at sweet water is the behringer clone of it. Are they just stupid?? Waza version of a DS-1?? Definitely not needed.
@@divebomb99 Yeah. Its just been so long. They finally did the HM-2 but I would argue that the FZ-2 was more in demand. I'm sure once the video got out about the behringer being the best selling its next on deck. But stills seems stupid. I have an original and the clone so I won't be buying the waza. I think they may have lost out on some sales by now.

I'm absolutely convinced my DS-1 will sound twice as good the day I get Bohlinger to autograph it..
LOL! Nice try Charley, nice...try...
*play it
I have a original 79 and I love it with the drive all the way down you get this really nice warm sound
thanks..that is what i was looking for
The DS-1 is what I use for that smooth Boston cover sound.

The SD-1 is also an amazing treble booster. Its what Josh Homme uses.
That alone makes me want a waza DS1
@@captainkirk70 which do you like better SD1? Or DS1?
@@realtruenorth Never actually had the DS-1. Actually the Boss overdrive I like best is their bass overdrive. ODB-3. Its amazing.

There are so many distortion pedals out there, they are like stars in the night sky. John is guaranteed to make all of them sound desirable.

I think I prefer the simple Overdrive instead. Would have been way more interested in that at the same price as the SD-1
I prefer the OD3 to the SD1 but I like and own both.
John: "Now, if we dime this pig..." haha you rule bro. Perhaps the greatest all-time dirt pedal, now even more stellar from the royal Waza magic.
Classic great pedal and have the original and now want the Waza!

I was just getting ready to comment Thanks for not getting the slide out this demo, and bam..right at the end! 😆
Boss pedals are my favorite. I need a looper for all the buffered pedals on my board!
Oh wow great! So they made a ds-2!
Eu já gostava do modelo standard, o novo ficou fantástico.
Excelente vídeo!
Obrigado por postar.
good note definition even when cranked.
So, basically, it's the MXR Custom Badass '78 Distortion in its original enclosure. 🤣
I love boss pedals but i think the fulltone OCD sounds way better
True. The circuit is so old and many people have cloned and improved on it for decades.
Love this pedal and great review!!
Cool strap!
You had early Joe Walsh going there around the 11:30 mark.

How does it clean up?
Subscribed!!!
??? In ur opinion how would u say this pedal is different from the ehx flat iron fuzz ?
I have a gray DS1, can you tell me about this?
I can tell you it have a different color. So it sounds more grey than orange. Same with amps sometimes..
John always sounds great no matter what he’s playing. Cheers 🤘🏼
Nice work 👆👆👆😄😄😄
I met Joe Satriani in Guitar Center San Francisco.
GOOD for you!
The routing of the power cable is making my brain hurt.
It's to help tie it down on the display stand like that so it doesn't shift and move around as he is playing and adjusting the pedals knobs :)

I would bet 10 grand it's in the works. I loosely follow the Waza thing and this is by far, by faaaaar, the most talked about.

In this case the behringer is just as good except for it being plastic. So good my original has been in a box for at least 5 years.
I'm sure the other Chinese clone makers are working on a metal mini version now. Even less sales for Boss.

Nah, you just have to keep the Tone and the Gain down, a DS-1 is a great mid-gain pedal into a good amp. Gnarly!
