I didn't get the solution before either of you but I did immediately think to start with the orange piece in the middle because its the only one of its color so it made sense to me to go in the middle. I think Katie's game day prepping definitely helped her and probably shaved time off of what she would have gotten had she not prepped and rather done others months ago.

Katie- Congrats on your "six" minute victory. Karen you were a gracious runner up. Your point that you had added responsibilities, ie, cameras and lights should count for something. Katie buys the hot fudge sundaes! As a mother of two, it is wonderful seeing sibs getting along.
Kudos to your parents for raising exceptional women!

This was fun to watch. I think you two must have slightly different areas of puzzling you really shine in. You both really are fantastic puzzlers but Karen can really get those super challenging puzzles that many people struggle with just by logically working through the shapes and colors and how the pieces fit together, whereas as Katie seems to really get the brain teaser aspect of these kind of puzzles. It’s just two different skill sets and really fun to watch together. Also, it basically means the two of you can work together and take on the puzzling world together. 😉 (I couldn’t figure out how to stick in six, but I did appreciate how you were so excited to get out of the bright lights but kept playing with the puzzle anyway lol)
Such a fun puzzle. I'm glad you aren't super competitive siblings. My brother and I are 6 years apart and always cooperated really well
You have some wonderful chemistry together. I could easily watch six more of these puzzle competitions with you both.

Six. Wow, I was stunned when it looked liked Katie had it in less than two minutes. After being that close so quickly, not surprised at the 6 and a half. Maybe since her passion is 3-D puzzles, she’s just sees things like this. Like your skills with gradients. Siblings.

I would have definitely taken longer because I'm so used to conventional, orthogonal puzzles. Keep up the great videos Karen.

I really enjoyed watching the competition. The videos of you two together are so much fun. I am so impressed that both of you thought to turn the center piece diagonally. Never would have occurred to my symmetrical mind.
I was surprised that you werene't actively trying to place the colours symmetrically. I actually thought that would be a trick, and that they would be randomly positioned, but I definitely would have tried it first and in fact it did turn out to be like that.
I posted that at the end of your attempt and am happy to see that Katie immediately acknowledges that the colours might mean something. :-)
Watching back, I definitely could have had a lot more strategy than I did!

I'm glad that Katie won just because it is nice for guests/less expected contestants to, but your solution was more beautiful Karen in case that is any comfort.

Hey Karen, I’ve done A LOT of puzzles in my past. I’ve done the “impossible” ones and the 6000 piece ones but somehow the most difficult puzzle I have had is a thriller Michael Jackson 1000 piece puzzle. It’s is the HARDEST puzzle I’ve ever done and I was working on it for a year until I gave up on it.
What was so hard about it?
@@ALLTHESAVED pieces would look like that went in perfectly but we’re completely wrong and the image was blurry. Probably cause it was cheap but I have never had any other problems with cheap puzzles

Wow, fun to watch. Six minutes. The sibling dynamic is always interesting in any family. It looks like you two enjoy each other, like I enjoy my brother (same age difference). I was imagining my reaction to the same result. I would be pleased and annoyed at the same time. Pleased that they do such a great job. Annoyed why it didn't come to me as fast. I guess we'll know the actual reaction when Katie does, or doesn't show up in future videos! Won't we...
SIX minutes, wow Katie, very impressive. Also, Karen, did you realise at 7:25 on the video, you just had to swap the top green and yellow and you would have done it!

This is like Rembrandt suddenly unsure of his color scheme and is questioning himself.
well, I would have needed way longer than *six* minutes for these xD
I couldn't stand to watch without trying first, so I printed a square version and after about 2 minutes of Sudoku-like rationalizing, I realized that the pieces can't go in a 3x3 square orientation.
Congrats to Katie on solving the puzzle in a little over six minutes.

Was there a mention of it being the only orange piece that was the "key"? (I'm typing this at around 10:00 in the video.)

New here! Fun puzzle! I have been looking for activities to keep my mind active and think puzzles and word search puzzles would be fun! So I am glad I found your channel. It makes me wish there were some live puzzle with me videos here on TH-cam!

Lmaoo i was yelling at karen to do the trick with the puzzle and for a while i felt extra smart about myself... but i have probably seen chris ramsey do this puzzle a long time ago and the trick stayed at the back of my mind although i dont remember watching his video :D

Karen( confident) : Once we hit my time ( 17min : 42 sec) , then I will tell Katie that she did slower than I did .

The moment I réalised that the same pieces had the same color I wanted to do something with symmetry, especially because there was one orange piece... But I was missing something until Karen pointed it out 😂

You solved it randomly at 3:10 just needed to turn the last piece bottom side up and replace the bottom left...

I am kind of not that surprised that Katie was faster. She is an engineer by trade. They are trained to see solutions that might be "out of the box.
I was however surprised that Karen did take so much longer. 17 Minutes is quite long in Karen time for doing these kinds of puzzles. But this was still a great video!!!
Your six-ster is such a good sport!
A little math helps. With the conventional arrangement, there is an equal number of long connectors and long connector bases; you can quickly figure out that it won't fit.
With the secret diagonal configuration, the long connector restriction is taken care of, but you're using four of the wide connector bases. That means that there are an equal number of wide connectors and wide connector bases left over, so now you can't waste any wide connector bases.

Katie really reminds me of someone and I just figured it out. She looks so much like a younger Bebe Neuwirth (actress)to me! She's been in tons of movies and shows, "The Faculty" is the first to pop in my head. Anyone else see the resemblance or is it just me?
