Yo! Sick to see you again! Saw Babe Haven recently and got to talk to Naomi and Lillie and I brought up that I found them through you talking about them and your band playing with them. There’s so many insane pit stories at any punk show, big or small. There’s some assholes who use the genre of the music as an excuse to be an asshole. I saw Descendants and Circle Jerks (with Adolescents opening) with my friend recently. The entire floor became a mosh pit but it was so bad my friend and I were fighting for our lives. We’re teenagers and these full grown sweaty men were body slamming into everyone around him, and if we asked them to stop they’d say “if you don’t like don’t come to punk shows” and then do it even more. I ended up throwing my water onto this dude to try to get him off us but he wouldn’t. Even worse, during Adolescents’ set I got shoved to the ground as the whole pit was rushing to the stage. Terrifying. We’ve both been to plenty of punk shows, so luckily we know how people are usually respectful and it’s all cool and fun. I feel like if that was someone’s first experience though it might scare them off from shows all together. Generally it’s the front middle of the pit that’s the mosh pit to give others who don’t wanna be apart of it some space to enjoy the show. We were all forced to be apart of it, and that’s not very punk rock. That’s angry drunk metalhead conservative father behavior.
Going to the same show in Houston, I’m lucky my dad is going with me and we got balcony seats otherwise I’d 100% get crushed as a teenage girl, but it’s my first show and hopefully it goes well
