    I had Ohio sitting on my book shelf for years and was finally motivated to read it after another booktuber did a review for it last year and I loved it! I still think about it. It’s a pretty dark and heavy read though, which is fine, just something to keep in mind if you’re a mood reader 🙂

      I'm looking forward to finally getting to Ohio!

    Yesterday was the day I decided it was time for me to read some Ann Napolitano! 😅😂 You just made a point here, I really need to discover that author! 👍🏻

    I think you could call it a 13% refinement rate, you're refining your tastes. I love these curated look at what people are collecting. Happy Reading

    Great to see these videos, it also makes me pay attention to my book purchases and have I read most of them? Absolutely love your copy of Little Women, beautiful.
    Thank you Greg.

    Interesting discussion - Here are my two bits:
    My vote goes to BEL CANTO , it is just brilliant , although I have loved everything of Ann Patchett that I have read.
    Barbara Kingsolver is another favourite - and if you like to read warm-hearted books with wonderful characters, you cannot go wrong with THE BEAN TREES, PIGS IN HEAVEN and ANIMAL DREAMS. The kind of books that you reread every few years. Happy reading!

      I remember loving The Bean Trees. My favorite Kingsolver is still The Poisonwood Bible, but Demon Copperhead is up there. I’ll try to get to Bel Canto soon because Ann Patchett just announced special editions of that are coming soon.

    Oh my. I don’t think I’d want to know my failure rate of books bought and sent away unread. But I also know, if I did a cull now, it could be pretty sizable. So, I don’t think I’m a wise book buyer. I’m getting better, I think, but even know if I’m bringing in books I really want to read, I’ve got such a backlist to get to, it makes my hit rate low. I think maybe I need to do that cull.

      It's definitely sobering to get reminders of how little progress you've made toward reading all your books. 😂 😬

    Do you listen to audiobooks while walking Teddy? How about audio for The Lacuna ( I loved that book)
    The Death of Vivek Oji 🤩
    I tend to listen to audiobooks when doing boring housework. Like today , it was ironing.

      If Joel isn’t around, I do listen while walking Teddy-but sometimes he’s hyped up enough that it gets difficult to keep up. 🤣
      I also listen while doing chores that are on the mindless side, while driving, and while working if what I’m doing is mindless enough.

    Utah recently banned Oryx and Crake from all public schools. About a year ago, I picked up the book and finished the MaddAdam series after repeated exposure to O&C on your intro. For me, the series is now a clear favorite. The NYT article is titled “Utah Bans 13 Books From All Public Schools.” I think it is an odd choice for a state wide ban, but I wanted to make sure it caught your attention.

      @SupposedlyFun  2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Book bans have me so stressed out. I actually haven't read Oryx and Crake yet! The photo at the beginning of my videos is a photo of the first bookshelf in my library as it looked in 2019. It's very different now!

      @@SupposedlyFun Ha! Well, I will always be grateful to you for influencing me to start that series. I think some of the gender dynamics come across as a bit dated, but I really enjoyed the dystopian world and characters she created. The audiobooks are also good for long evenings of snow shoveling. I think that part of what makes book banning stressful is that it seems so random and without an ultimate end. The people doing the banning aren’t well read enough to know what they are actually banning or ignoring/approving, and there seems to be little concern for the well being of the kids. It’s a revolution that insists on mediocrity. Anyway, you were the first person I thought of when I read that article because of your intro image. Wishing you well, and thank you for entertaining me.

    Have you ever done a "Read It or Unhaul It" kind of challenge? Some other booktubers have done that. Something like -- pick however many books you want per/month/quarter/year and you have to dnf and unhaul or read it. Of course, you can unhaul the read ones too. And, you can make your own rules! There must be other kinds of "read your shelves" challenges on StoryGraph -- I bet there are even challenges for mood readers. If you find anything that you think might be helpful, please share! (My tbr is stupid ridiculous 🙄)

    • @SupposedlyFun
      @SupposedlyFun  2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I haven't done anything like that because I try to limit the number of projects I do that commit me to reading a specific group of books. The Pulitzer Project is about all I can handle for now!
