    I’m so happy to see another adventure of Jack in NYC. Also, stick to Celsius. Fahrenheit is only useful if you have a fever or something.

    • @avac8751
      @avac8751 ปีที่แล้ว +12

      Idk, Fahrenheit with temperature is pretty useful. 100 is just too hot to be outside, 0 is just too cold to be outside

    • @komorebi7995
      @komorebi7995 ปีที่แล้ว +19

      @@avac8751 If you're used to Celsius you know exactly where common limits are too though. For me around 0 (chances of frosted grass and freezing water are high) is very cold and around 30 is very hot, same for most people in the country. A hundred is boiling water

    • @avac8751
      @avac8751 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      @komorebi sure, everyone prefers their own units. I was sjust adding that Fahrenheit is good for that. Also, wouldn't you know if your water is boiling by... the water boiling?

    • @user-xb5bz4fu9o
      @user-xb5bz4fu9o ปีที่แล้ว +6

      @@komorebi7995 I think they were more making the point that Fahrenheit slots better to a 0-100 percentage scale of outside temperatures, which is more intuitive in general to people as it's way more prevalent than the 0-30ish scale of Celsius. Similarly, Celsius is way more intuitive in a science sense (coming from an engineering major in America, I use it just as much as Fahrenheit because of labs), because water boils at 100 and freezes at 0. They're two systems for two different needs

    • @komorebi7995
      @komorebi7995 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@user-xb5bz4fu9o I know, yeah! I was trying to make the point that that isn't reaally an advantage because Celsius feels totally intuitive if you grew up with it as well. (Also, if water boils at a 100 C and freezes at 0 C you know that everything close to these temperatures is uncomfortable in the air as well.) And Fahrenheit isn't as intuitive for other people as people that grew up with it think I'd say. For example I don't know where the cut offs are. Is 50 F the most comfortable temperature? Is 80 F still bearable? Is 10 F freezing? I feel like I didn't articulate myself well, English isn't my first language 😄

    You know what I absolutely love about this man? The fact that his entire life acts like a justification of all the regrettable shopping decisions I ever make on the daily.
    Edit: I also love the fact that he went to a writing school. The day he releases hi first novel, i am going to make a video that says "Ranking Books by TH-camrs" and put this person on SSS Tier.
    Man I really do stan this person.

    on the reading books in french front: ereaders are your friend! I read in Spanish and German occasionally and can only do that because of my reader because the built in dictionaries allow me to tap a work and look it up without losing my flow like googling it on my phone did

    Just something I've noticed! In last two videos that you went to a few bookstores, I saw the exact same book, one from an author that is ABSOLUTELY genius and amazing, her being Clarice Lispector, an absolute MUST when it comes to brilliant Brazilian literature. You should definitely check it out! I recommend you starting with "the hour of the star" or even her first published book "Near to the wild heart".
    Now, I know from experience that, usually, translated books are a whole thing BUT, either way, I guarantee you'll feel everything that she makes us all feel when reading her masterpieces.

    A useful trick with Fahrenheit is to think about it as a percentage of heat. So like 80 degrees F would be 80% hot, which is pretty hot. On the other hand, 30 degrees (30% hot) is pretty cold!

    I love shopping at independent bookstores so much more than going to barnes and noble. I just feel like they focus more on really good books than popular ones if that makes any sense. I’m a fifteen year old girl obsessed with literature and works of fiction. I hate romance books, and it seems like every time I go into a barnes and noble I feel like I’m hit in the face with them. I went into a few independent book stores over the summer and found incredible books I would have never found in barnes. Anyway I love independent book stores and there are my favorite videos Jack makes

    I read Lie With Me (Arrête avec tes mensonges) was one of the first novels I ever read in French, and I think it’d be a good level for you (if I understand your french level correctly) because it’s super modern with concepts we can understand easily. Also, there’s this book Fado by Kettly Mars, a Haitian author, that I recently read in my college French class and I LOVED it!! I don’t often connect to French books, but I loved Fado and the Haitian feeling it gave.

    ariel and rayleen from books unbound call that 'i wanna read it so much i almost dont want to" a mashed potato book. like, if nashed potato is ur fave food, you save it to be the last bite of the meal. but sometimes if u hold it too far its not gonna be as warm and nice as if u'd eaten it right away, so you can't hold it back too long. I hope you enjoyed the book and that mash potato didnt go cold!!

    I can get behind the metric system in most cases, but I really like Fahrenheit. It feels extremely accurate to how hot it is if you think about it like percent. 100 degrees is like 100% hot. 0 degrees is like 0%. Also for me since I live in Minnesota, it doesn’t feel cold to me unless it’s below zero so 0 degrees feels like a more accurate threshold than 32F/0C since 0C feels too warm to be at 0

    Heyy Jack, I've got a book recommendation for you! It might be a bit of a curveball, but I'm curious what you'd think about 'Dorian: An Imitation' by Will Self. It is a modern reinterpretation of The Picture of Dorian Gray and we studied it in my Neo-Victorian lit class. Opinion in my class was Wildely (😉) divided, but I personally really enjoyed it. It is gritty, brutal and shocking but, in my opinion, very well done (especially the epilogue! which is interesting to analyse with a copy of Oscar Wilde's 'The Preface' from the original in hand).

And when water boils it’s at 212 degrees instead of 100 for reasons so obvious there is no point in going into it. See? Simple…. Okay, yeah, I really don’t know why we use Fahrenheit in the U.S.

    Hi Jack,
    In one of your previous video you were a bit uneasy since Keira Knightley liked a book called INTO THAT DARKNESS which had the Swastika and you associated with the Nazi symbol but pls know that the symbol used in Nazi Germany is called a Hakenkreuz and not Swastika (two very different things)
    Swastika is a symbol of peace and good luck in many Asian countries, so associating it with a crime such as the Holocaust is very disrespectful.. I've been watching your videos for a long time and know how respectful, kind and understanding you are and am sure you'll take this as a learning moment like you're inclined to and it'll be great if you address this in another video or pin this message to let others who might not be aware of the difference to know the diffrence because we are all aware THAT WORDS MATTER.

    I really think one’s preference for centigrade or Fahrenheit depends on what you grew up with. I know that people from the UK have trouble making sense of Fahrenheit, and as an American who grew up with Fahrenheit, centigrade temperature is tell me almost nothing, since they all sound cold, even the hot temperatures. So when I’m watching a video from the UK and someone says that it is 15° outside, I have no idea if it’s a chilly day or a warm day or just a perfect day. I know that has nothing to do with books, but anyway…
