the spring spine is probably black because you can’t see it if it’s white. Spring has a lot of pastel colors and white text can be hard to read over pastel colors.
Noting that your bookcase doesn't have enough space for your books, so you need to expand it, and then go out and buy MORE books... This is why you're so relatable!❤
last weekend I was at the lake taking pictures with my professional camera and there was a proposal happening exactly where I was. I took pictures of the cutest moments and sent them to them afterwards. They were sooo happy!!
the stranger capturing the moment for you..uh!! loveliest thing i heard this year. like, its such a great "human thing" idk how else to describe it😂. The problem is i think i will be constantly dreaming of someone doing the same for me, at least i kown i can-try- to do it to others. Honestly so freaking sweet❤
aww thanks for sharing the photo stories! I take film photos and I worry about asking people for their email because I feel like it'll take forever for the film to be developed. Good to know that they're always appreciated :)
My grandmother gifted me that Jane Austen set right before she died. We both loved Austen and watched just about every adaptation of her works we could find together. I know the Penguin Clothbounds are a bit hit or miss in terms of physical material quality but the Austen set brings me so much joy.
you're gonna LOVE ali smith's work!! i read the quartet in the correpsonding seasons like you talked about and it truly adds a whole new layer to how one experiences the seasons
Any time I see a couple taking a selfie or someone out of a group shot because they’re taking the photo, I always ask if I can take a photo for them. People are always so thankful 😌
Oh my goodness I read the Seasonal Quartet in order over a year stating on the autumn solstice, reading the next book on the next solstice - such a wonderful moving experience! You’re gonna love it! They are linked but not always obviously, I cant wait for your review of your experience reading these!
If you haven't seen the show Ted Lasso, I think you'd appreciate the range and depth of characters and the show's perspective on the world despite the show being a comedy. In the first 2 seasons there are quite a few references and recommendations of great books by various characters in the show, including The Fountainhead, The Prince of Tides and A Wrinkle in time. In case you ever got bored, you might enjoy a deep dive into these books and the characters they relate to. I know I would love to see your take.
These videos are good yapping in the background while I do other stuff. Especially since I don’t really read and what I do read is science fiction, so I’m not invested in the books you are describing. I mean this as a compliment because you have an easy voice to listen to.
when I started reading the quartet I had no idea it was a quartet, so I just bought the books without keeping count of what they looked like. and now I have Autumn and Spring from the same category of cover (my Spring also has the black writing), Summer is also from the same color palette but for some reason it's in a bigger format, and Winter has the washed out cover 🥲 also had no idea of the exitence of Companion Piece
PLEASE REVIEW FRANKIE!! Graham’s books are so good! I have to wait until January to read it across the pond. I’m definitely going to find a way to watch the show, it’s so cool that you got to work with him!
Re: photos of strangers I've done that a few times with stunning sunsets, capturing the most beautiful silhouettes of couples, then gone up and said that exact thing "hey hope they isn't weird but i just took this gorgeous photo of you guys, is it okay if i airdrop it to you?" and it's always been so well received 🥰
I feel like you will LOVE ali smith. She is the queen of puns. Also-- you don't have to read them in order, but I recommend it! Characters from previous books show up.
Books Mentioned: Seasonal Quartet by Ali Smith (2:51) The Anthropologists by Ayşegül Savaş (8:03) Frankie by Graham Norton (10:29) The Complete Works of Jane Austen (14:27)
i’m suddenly so shocked upon being reminded that people still have friends in their mid 20s. i hope you get to keep them well into your 30s. i wish i would’ve gotten to experience that too
Oh I have that collection of Jane Austen's books. If you're going to re-read them be careful when touching them. Maybe use a book cover or make a paper cover because I ruined my Pride and Prejudice one. The ink used for the pattern and letters peeled off. I decided to read them in order and because that one was the first book I read, I didn't know it would peel. After that one I used a paper cover from another book to read the rest of the books and they are immaculate... but my P&P is forever ruined 😢
The Ali Smith seasonal quartet!! this is the first modern/contemporary fic lit I read like in young adulthood and they really affected me. I hope you love Spring, its a slight Pericles retelling and my favorite of the bunch because of the weird style!
That happened to us too when we were cliff jumping, someone left a note on our car that they had taken drone photos and they sent them to us! They were so epic and we had no idea, it was really cool :)
Congrats on Between the Covers! (literally bought Butter on Sunday bc it just pubbed in the US in paperback) I have all the Coralie Bickford-Smith editions of Jane Austen, they're so pretty
Me, my brother and our mom went on a hiking trip and met a photographer at our camp site. He took some photos of us and months later we got an envelope with some pictures in the mail. Years later, my sister, who was working as a cleaner, found a magazine with us on the cover in a clients house. That was the biggest WTF moment of that year, I think.
Our used bookstore got the Austen set about two or three weeks ago from someone cleaning out his bookshelves in advance of a move. I think they stayed on the shelf for about a week - we have a terrible time keeping Austen in stock (Murakami and Cormac McCarthy also go almost immediately after shelving).
Omg JACK. I’ve only watched the first few minutes, the part about taking pictures of people, and have to share because I can relate! I lived in Edinburgh for my Masters and was on Calton Hill one evening and caught a proposal while I was taking a video of the sunset, so I went down to the couple and airdropped it to them! I also was reading (Killers of the Flower Moon) one day at Holyrood Park and a photographer came up to me to ask for my picture. I’ve also been to Lake Bled with my friends, and we were taking film photos of each other, and it was magical. I love how humans can connect with each other like this - I really miss living in a city (in the UK!) where there is more personal interaction. Anyway. Currently reading Vampires in the Lemon Grove for Halloween and checked out Table for Two from the library!
Appreciate and admire that Jack walks his talk. I noticed he does not include commissioned Amazon links to the books he raves about. Can you imagine if he did so how much income he'd receive? I'd absolutely not begrudge him for doing so, but he promotes independent book store by forgoing that lucrative practice. That's having integrity. Good job.
Love and Freindship is outrageously hilarious, but also extremely informative of gendered culture around that period! Had to read it in uni : ) Have fun reading :D (and sitting in the chairrrr)
i was in edinburgh the same week as you and i wished i would cross your path but it didn't happen 🥲. I didn't Ali Smith is Scottish, now I regret not buying Autumn. Love the Jane Austen Collection 😍😍😍
The CHAIR!!!
😂
It finally arrived 😂
Yes!
finally they were able to deliver THE CHAIR!!!!!!!!!!
The cupboard now looks like a magical portal surrounded by books
It drive me crazy when a book has a great cover but a meh or inconsistent spine! The spine is what you see on the shelf for most of the book's life!!
Yes!
This!!
this is why i stopped buying penguin black spines or the oxford classics!! my entire shelves were just black and white
As a designer in publishing I will tell you I fight to keep spines consistent and often get told "nooo change it for better shelf presence!" Ugh.
the spring spine is probably black because you can’t see it if it’s white. Spring has a lot of pastel colors and white text can be hard to read over pastel colors.
The cupboard amongst all the books looks like a magical portal into a Narnia world I'm obsessed
I thought the same thing!
Noting that your bookcase doesn't have enough space for your books, so you need to expand it, and then go out and buy MORE books... This is why you're so relatable!❤
JACK THE HAIR IS DEVOURING
the chair???
😂
no yes his hair looks so so good
@@kasia8306 no 😭 his HAIR
WHAT I THOUGHT AS SOON AS I SAW THE THUMBNAIL
Absolutely loving the new background! A bedroom-library combo is the ultimate cozy vibe!

i LOVE the darker shelves, very much giving sophisticated

The cabinet looks like a portal to another world

Here for the chair stayed for Jack's hair
Any time I see a couple taking a selfie or someone out of a group shot because they’re taking the photo, I always ask if I can take a photo for them. People are always so thankful 😌
no way, i just finished the video where we are not mentioning a certain piece of furniture
It deserves its own video
Oh my goodness I read the Seasonal Quartet in order over a year stating on the autumn solstice, reading the next book on the next solstice - such a wonderful moving experience! You’re gonna love it! They are linked but not always obviously, I cant wait for your review of your experience reading these!
I bought my daughter the Jane Austen set for Christmas last year. She loves the look of the covers on these versions.

6:00 no, your book spine book lover qualm is completely valid and understandable hahah. That is rather confusing from a book production perspective
You’re such a gentle soul Jack. Thank you for your videos
Jack, the hair. That’s it. That’s the whole thought. HAIR!❤
Oh wow that candid photo is amazing, getting this on film and nailing exposure in such a way requires true skill! Beautiful moment.
So glad you’re hopping on the Ali Smith train!! I studied Autumn for a module back in first year, and just fell in love with Smith’s writing
The Bled photo is absolutely stunning, what a kind gift from a stranger :3
Anyone else here obsessed with Oliver Mercer's book "Hidden Manifestation"?
These videos are good yapping in the background while I do other stuff. Especially since I don’t really read and what I do read is science fiction, so I’m not invested in the books you are describing.
I mean this as a compliment because you have an easy voice to listen to.
The hardcover of Ali Smith’s spring has the spine writing in white jsyk - either way you have to embrace chaos
Loving this new room look! That bookshelves at the back is to die for Jack!!
The way I screamed when I saw the Jane Austen collection omg, they are sooooo beautiful!!

you have to check out the covers of Polish editions of Ali Smith's books. they look gorgeous! (Jesień, Zima, Wiosna, Lato)
I bought Ali Smith's Winter in 2019 and I loved how different her writing was and the perspective of the book ❤
Books Mentioned:
Seasonal Quartet by Ali Smith (2:51)
The Anthropologists by Ayşegül Savaş (8:03)
Frankie by Graham Norton (10:29)
The Complete Works of Jane Austen (14:27)
Jack, please make a video mainly on Jane Austen's books. I would love to know what you think of each book and maybe your personal ranking.
i’m suddenly so shocked upon being reminded that people still have friends in their mid 20s. i hope you get to keep them well into your 30s. i wish i would’ve gotten to experience that too
Omg, between the covers is so exciting!! I really loved Frankie - would defo recommend the audiobook, Graham Norton reads it
Really really love how your room turn out. So dreamy I already I want exactly that
You finally have the chair! I also can't wait to watch the TV show. Also that was so sweet of Graham Norton gifting you his book! 📖🤍
Ong those jane austen clothbounds were my first splurge ever! they are so very beautiful
That picture is pure art and love. Thank you for sharing that.
omg jack I love that your hair is a little longer !!!
Ok so I obviously haven’t watched a video in ages because HELLO? The long hair? Stunning. Love. You look so pretty Jack.

Your bookshelf looks amazing. It's a world of knowledge.

Telling my kids that this is the wardrobe that is a magical portal to Narnia 😂
Seriously, why is no one discussing 'Hidden Manifestation'? This forbidden book is a goldmine of knowledge that can sincerely change your life

That's so cool you got to meet Graham Norton. He's one of my favorite talk show hosts.
I love the new books that have arrived on your shelves.
The four seasons by Ali smith are available in hardback which are all cohesive so it might be better to go for those !
I love Between The Covers, so excited for you and can’t wait to watch.
I just thrifted Autumn by Ali Smith as well as The Accidental and I am so excited to get into her writing!
