A tip for destroying the Anti Dropship cannons. At the base of them is a large ring that goes around them, shoot the armor off a spot on that ring then keep firing lasers at that gap. Very quick destruction doing this.

Every new mech I'm getting is a real grind! (Also, not buying them from the market, unless it's a hero). I also lost early my 2nd mech, a locust (reminder to self, take off its engine, and just sell the mech), so I had to survive with just a hunchback. I joined mainly missions where you have other friendlies (beachhead defense, battleground). It was a struggle, but I loved it! Also, beachhead defense gives +125%, so more loot. Also, you can go for the resource missions, they give good salvage bonus too. Even if you jus kill the 1st mech that's running towards your dropship, and just leave. Otherwise, leave 1-2 mechs near the dropship, and go around by yourself (or +1), till you get damaged, then switch mechs, and go for the rest of the zones. You can just switch to a mech and leave the mission whenever you feel like it. I don't know why you`re afraid of them. Just keep watch of the distress call, if you fail it, in case it spawns a dropship near your own. Switch and leave immediately. :) When I got Kobold, IIRC, it was my 2nd mech, after my hunchie, so I most welcomed it. But when I did one of the new missions to get the pilot (mind you, they were tough!), it also gave me a thunderbolt, just at the same time as I completed the 10 parts to make my 4th in my lance. I felt the same way as you, about that freebie. It kinda stole some of my joy. (Maybe I'll be selling them in the future, idk) As for you, I don't know. One idea, is to keep it in your cold storage with its equipment (if you have that option on), and take him out only when you do multiple missions and one of them is a recon.
As for the pilot, Goblin, he's 60 MAX, sure, but right now he's only 1-3 on each stat. Purple pilots have much higher starting stats (4-6). So, take him to missions to level him up while you`re still doing low level missions.

I made the mistake of looking for harder/high reward missions while I was only Rep 4 and just got my first Warhammer. Lol Ran into a high reward mission that was Assassination and BOTH targets were in Atlus’s the first one wasn’t really a problem at all because he was confined to a narrow canyon, but the second one had a garrison to peek out of when his Long Tom was off of cooldown, so he continuously peeked out and one-shotted every single one of my lance mates. Lol luckily after he blew them up he walked too far into the garrison and got stuck so he couldn’t find his way out and I was able to LRM 5 (T5) him to death from about 350 meters away. Even though an enemy drop ship dropped an Orion and Dervish behind me while he was stuck behind the wall. Took them both out with quick headshots and then LRMed the Atlas a couple more times to blow him up and run back to my dropship for dust off as fast as my Hammer could run! Lol it was NUTS but I got so lucky the pilot got stuck behind the wall so I could LRM his Atlas to death. Luckily none of my pilots died, one just got captured and I have to pay her ransom as soon as it comes back up, but the repair bill for my 2 mediums and 1 light that got absolutely demolished drained the c-bills I had finally built up. 😅😅 These missions are fun, but can be REALLY scary sometimes!
What you could do about the free mechs is while you could collect them you can't use them until your able to field your own mech of the same or heavier tonnage, that way you have something to still work towards, something similar your doing with your marauders, but its just a random thought
Personally, I'd hunt down at least 4 of the freebies & put all of the frames into storage. Then, use them only when you need to make money doing random missions that don't apply to your career, or when you lose one of the mechs you built from scratch, or when you have a mission that you can't wait for your built team to get repaired for. Basically, merc your mercs.
I'd store or maybe even sell the hero Phoenix Hawk and just focus on building the lance up from the ground. After all, you started the career with two light mechs for a reason. If you are going to use the freebie, you might as well have started with a full lance. P.S. I was addicted to this game for ages and then uninstalled months ago. Now I'm really itching to start a new career myself. Keep up the great work dude!
i also found out the repair all button is broke and works even in places that you aren't supposed to be able to repair , and i think it doesn't apply combat zone penalty
The List is a weird but fun mission chain lol. I got one Mechwarrior called Kelpie. He's been training and is now sitting at 108/108 skills (with PilotOverhaul), yet his total skills only add up to 88. It's bizarre hehe
I am in favor of selling the Pheonix hawk, rather than keeping it in cold storage. The pilot i think is fine to keep, since they are relatively low level anyways.
Getting the new mechs would give you an nice edge I feel. It isn't cheating if you add them to your lance. Maybe you can put them in your lance as the third or fourth mech and keep on getting the mechs, maybe some missions bench them and don't use them.
One way you could go about Goblin, is to keep him till you get the rest of the elite pilots, as their bringing their own mechs, as well as tier 5 weapons to go with said mechsand how come you've not come accross any merc areas so far, they bring decent rewards, specilly for a new start, their well worth going for. Keep up the good fight.
Question: Can you open that map and tell guys to go places and attack/defend an area?? I would love to be able to have that level of tactical ability per lancemate. Question 2: Do any of the electronic warfare stuff or sensors help you spot loot crates?? Like that Beagle. That would be cool to have a super fast mech with a loot crate sensor in your forces. Yeah it didn't take much for you to leave Steiner turf, you were halfway into the federated suns lol. I think a good spot to set up shop would be where 3 empires converge. You can rank up with two of them and only take missions that are against the 3rd empire between the other two lol. Fighting in places where you have a good relationship is a huge difference!
I finally got an Xbox again with all requirements and am waiting for this to download so I can continue my campaign. 10 minutes lefts. Not as juicy as what you roll, but still, I hope to continue to have fun.
I grab every Urbie R68M I see in early game just for the XL engine, DHS engine kits and endo. Screw the mech, sell it. But get those juicy upgrades! 😁 SO much value for the picks.
There are other variants with XL and stuff, too, and you can also pick other variants to finish the first ones. As for the R68M, with the 4 missile hardpoints... "Screw the mech, sell it"... Man, you don't realise the power and survivability that 30t little beast has :) For the AI, I would remove the XL, just in case. But other than that, I would totally take a full lance of urbies than any other light or medium mechs.
I'd hang onto the Kobold until you reach that weight class, and then you should just integrate it into your Lance then. You'll need damn near 8 mechs for the multi-mission contracts anyway. Or, throw it into storage and use the parts from it, either way.
as far as the freebie mech, it came thru normal game play still.. soo, it could be kinda easy mode, but at same time, it's not like it's a super heavy clan built YAML epic made just for you... i mean it's a 45 ton P-Hawk... worst case you either cold storage or strip it for its parts/weapons...
The lag seems to be due to the AI update from the base game. I never had any freezing until the update, now it lags just like it's doing for you whenever new enemies load in. I had one mission in a small urban map (Kelpie's second recruit mission) and it straight up crashed the game because so many enemies were spawning in a small area. I tried disabling all of the AI mods I use (TTR and XenoAI) and friendly AI would still just stand around doing nothing until they get attacked or detect enemies. As you've already noticed if you have friendly fire off you can just shoot them yourself to get them to move...but they will stop again after a few seconds so you have to keep kicking them in the ass if you want their help. As far as Goblin....eh. If I was doing a "new start" like you are doing I'd throw Kobold in cold storage but I'd totally take Goblin. He's max tier, but his skill levels are still relatively low so he's not going to be OP or anything. He'll take a long time to build up and by then you'll have better mechs and better pilots, so at best you'd have a slight leg up.
Maybe strip it down and upgrade your other mechs? Kind of a one stone two bird situation, you get some new toy for your "own mechs" and if you wish to keep the freebie you need to refit it again (making it not free)
@@Kdubz_Auto_HVAC I have not experienced this. My observation is that colliding with other mechs, stepping on tanks, or stepping on explosives (fire or electrical) will damage any mech, whereas running into buildings, or these cannons, will not for any mech class.
TTrulez_AI is the problem one, I disabled it last night and the squad one still works fine, was able to complete an infiltration mission just fine with it off.
lol bara seeing arrow 4 ammo: nah... lol light mech with arrow 4 shooting own lance mates back side would fun to see again lol (tough light mech propably can´t use them lol too bad)
See the Baradul's MW5 YAML Mods on Steam. But i didn`t understand how he merge YAML whith uther mods in that list. Some of them has incompatibilities and conflicts.
@@74mihain Yeah no I've already looked at that, and I couldn't see the mod that specifically adds those new mechs. Is it Yet Another Special Variant? Yet Another Mechlab Mechs? They don't say that they add new mechs like the Valkyrie or Thug on their Steam of Nexus pages
dismiss Goblin, It says to do so when you view his profile. Throw the KB in cold storage with your creator hero mechs. The game throws too much free stuff at you that makes all your early game efforts rendered useless or mundane. Keep going your own road.
I'm pretty sure that "voice actress" is an AI text-to-speech bot. And the fact that the line is about "hostilities" rather than "hostiles" is a bit annoying to me. XD Had I been writing those lines, I'd have went with a more mechanical/minimalistic text as it is supposed to be an automated system, not a person, that's transmitting. Like "Enemy forces detected. Process: request support from allied forces. Query: possibility of engaging enemy forces. Reward: money and salvage." or something like that. XD
I honestly love cicadas. With a lower rates XL engine, double heat sink kit, and max armor you can make them really good with all their energy hard points.
@@kazahani With enough upgrades, most things can be good. My problem with the Cicada (aside from the stock loadouts being mostly hot garbage) is there is no purpose for which I don't have a 35-tonner I'd rather use. I'd just as soon bring a Firestarter, Jenner, Raven, Wolfhound, or Panther, not to mention an Adder or my favorite, the Cougar, and use the spare 5T for something else. Heck, I'd rather just not bring the spare 5T if it comes to that, and I'm confident half of those mechs could take a Cicada, given similar equipment options.
@@vmonk722 This Cicada having nearly the loadout of a mech commonly noted for it's wimpy armaments is not exactly praise. It's still got weak armor, and it presents a much larger target than a lot of the 35T Lights that can nearly match it in weaponry. Hence why it has never felt like a real Medium to me; it just plays like a Light with bigger hitboxes.
With what your trying to do I would throw freebies into the cold storage. You could keep the pilots but only start using them when you grind up the mech they were suppose to come in. Its a shame you cant just delete stuff and not get any c-bills from it. Then I would be ok with Gutting his mech of all components and then rebuilding it with the crap you have access to. But yea, dont use the mechs. Its like these guys join up with you but dont wanna use their most prized mech for your crappy merc company lol. They just wanna use the crap you provide them and if they ever have to part ways they still got their bad ass mech.
What would you do question: Sell the Mechs you didn't fight for yourself. Or let them rot in cold Storage and once money is meaningless later on sell them.
@@peppermill7163 aw man vanilla ai is so dumb :D. Hopefully modder can fix the ai soon, late game fights are way cooler when enemies act like they wanna live.

@@xJamesLaughx yeah mainly ttr just forces you to switch targets sometimes because ai tends to hide behind rocks. Imo game devs need to overhaul ai, add an option to put orders on the map, and make both friendly and enemy ai actually pilot their Mechs like they want to survive and go back to their families. Ridiculous what some light mech pilots pull off when I am standing there with my 385 ton lance full of custom built medium range brawlers.
I had to disable friendly fire. Those idiots kept running in front of 180+dmg lasers. They shouldn't call it AI, it should be AS (artificial stupidity). It's like running with the 3 stooges. A tip for destroying the Anti Dropship cannons. At the base of them is a large ring that goes around them, shoot the armor off a spot on that ring then keep firing lasers at that gap. Very quick destruction doing this.

I like the idea of stripping the hero pheonix hawk and selling it. you don't need it, and its free-ness cheapens the run.
The List is a weird but fun mission chain lol. I got one Mechwarrior called Kelpie. He's been training and is now sitting at 108/108 skills (with PilotOverhaul), yet his total skills only add up to 88. It's bizarre hehe
Nein! to Kobold. It feels like cheating. Even worse is the double Cicada dude in Terra. We are here for the grind.
Ja!
You can use Goblin, he may be lvl 60 but he starts with only 3 points on each skill so he is bad and takes ages to level up.
I finally got an Xbox again with all requirements and am waiting for this to download so I can continue my campaign. 10 minutes lefts. Not as juicy as what you roll, but still, I hope to continue to have fun.
I've always had a soft spot for Shadow Hawks.
I have soft spot for cicadas and hunchbacks
I grab every Urbie R68M I see in early game just for the XL engine, DHS engine kits and endo. Screw the mech, sell it. But get those juicy upgrades! 😁 SO much value for the picks.
There are other variants with XL and stuff, too, and you can also pick other variants to finish the first ones.
As for the R68M, with the 4 missile hardpoints... "Screw the mech, sell it"... Man, you don't realise the power and survivability that 30t little beast has :)
For the AI, I would remove the XL, just in case. But other than that, I would totally take a full lance of urbies than any other light or medium mechs.
✌
You had 2 parts of the S1 firestarter with the ECM. You selected the S.
I was gesturing wildly at my screen when he did this
@@thomasspangenberg5328 Same.
I'd hang onto the Kobold until you reach that weight class, and then you should just integrate it into your Lance then. You'll need damn near 8 mechs for the multi-mission contracts anyway. Or, throw it into storage and use the parts from it, either way.
always use everything!!!
as far as the freebie mech, it came thru normal game play still.. soo, it could be kinda easy mode, but at same time, it's not like it's a super heavy clan built YAML epic made just for you... i mean it's a 45 ton P-Hawk... worst case you either cold storage or strip it for its parts/weapons...
get the Phoenix Hawk, and just keep it for when all other Mechs are damaged, or when u run multi operation missions?
personally i would Strip the Hawk for now and use the parts to power up just a little bit and maybe bring it out to play later
Play the Kobold. I love Phoenix Hawks.
I feel like you should put the phoenix in storage until you are able to get mechs in that weight class!
Take the exploration!!!
41:05 That sounds like Visions of Escaflowne
Maybe strip it down and upgrade your other mechs? Kind of a one stone two bird situation, you get some new toy for your "own mechs" and if you wish to keep the freebie you need to refit it again (making it not free)
This makes me wish I had a computer so I could do mods. I had over 100 med tier 0 at one point from mech salvage
Stay the course, do it tough, ignore the freebies. Much more satisfying. You could also make markets worse, I believe?
While the Cicada can't melee, you can drag your shoulder around those cannons to do damage. Like destroying the skyscrapers.
Yeah at the cost of hurting your mech that damages light mechs.....
@@Kdubz_Auto_HVAC I have not experienced this. My observation is that colliding with other mechs, stepping on tanks, or stepping on explosives (fire or electrical) will damage any mech, whereas running into buildings, or these cannons, will not for any mech class.
Keep goblin but shelve the phoenix hawk, goblin has always been a rock for my merc companies. If anything you can treat him as the new commander.
TTrulez_AI is the problem one, I disabled it last night and the squad one still works fine, was able to complete an infiltration mission just fine with it off.
Never stopping to pitch these: YetAnotherHeatsinkRestriction and disabled weapon tiers! Bara, wenigstens ein büschn mehr Challange für dich. ;)
I sold my freebies. This way I could focus on choosing salvage over cash to stay alive.
Keep the Panther. Let Goblin keep his mech for himself.
I like the idea of skipping goblin. Feels bad to just skip the suck lol
lol bara seeing arrow 4 ammo: nah... lol light mech with arrow 4 shooting own lance mates back side would fun to see again lol (tough light mech propably can´t use them lol too bad)
YES!
Take the hero mech!
There will be time to struge later. Any merc commander would give his left €&? If fhe chance came along.
You could just sell the Phoenix hawk and get rid of the temptation
Kobold is such a good mech that it can easily punch out heavy and assault mechs if properly maintained. If you want challenge, don't use it.
Well... I thinkif you dont want a freebe, just dont use t. Sell it, or put it away. Its your playthrough.
I gotta ask what mod specifically adds those new IS mechs like the Valkyrie and Thug to the game?
XD
Had I been writing those lines, I'd have went with a more mechanical/minimalistic text as it is supposed to be an automated system, not a person, that's transmitting. Like "Enemy forces detected. Process: request support from allied forces. Query: possibility of engaging enemy forces. Reward: money and salvage." or something like that. XD
Play the Phoenix Hawk. Just leave it the hands of the AI only.
What are people liking better - Mechwarrior 5 or Roguetech?
I think roguetech is blah. I can't stand top down turn based games. Boring as heck. I watched it once and was like 🤮
"We are playing our first Medium 'Mech today! We have a Cicada!"
But does that really count? Does it _really?_
Considering that Cicada build is practically a pocket Grasshopper...
Yes. Yes it counts.
Cicada is a wimpy mech
Panther store the halk man
If you really want the challenge, just sell the Phoenix Hawk or drop it in cold storage
Personally I just don't have for Kobold... I find Phoenix Hawks in general to be boring and Kobold to be very bland for a hero
Leave the hawk in storage. Keep struggling.
I would 100% take the hero Phoenix Hawk over that Panther. But, that's just my opinion.
What would you do question: Sell the Mechs you didn't fight for yourself. Or let them rot in cold Storage and once money is meaningless later on sell them.
Neither. Keep it in storage and don't use the T5 equipment and pull it back out and build it back to the Hero spec and use it at an appropriate time.
just grab the penishawk. it wont be cheating much since this is in the clan timeline now, OP equipment will be available pretty soon anyway.
About Kobold, in cold storage, it is way to easy....
Anyone know which mod breaks the ai? I wanna play mechlab mods but having ai be broken like this is kind of a deal breaker.
TTrules.
@@Jacklangefeld -- Yes, it's usable if you can accept that mechs will sometimes just stand around. If not, vanilla AI still works
@@peppermill7163 aw man vanilla ai is so dumb :D. Hopefully modder can fix the ai soon, late game fights are way cooler when enemies act like they wanna live.
@@HalIOfFamer TTRulez AI is still just as dumb just a tiny bit less so. So yeah pick your poison....completely useles and dumb or slightly less useless and dumb
Shooting the base (ring) of the big guns kills them faster.
Hey bara wenn du die Panzerung am Drehkranz zerstörst sterben die Kanonen sehr schnell
I sold off the pheonix hawk
I had to disable friendly fire. Those idiots kept running in front of 180+dmg lasers. They shouldn't call it AI, it should be AS (artificial stupidity). It's like running with the 3 stooges. They really need to hire programmers higher than 6th grade. If I had AI running the other lances, I wouldn't have to load them down with cheats
I wouldn't take Goblin or the KB.
i never use jump jets they no real use in my mind. i prefer to spend points armor and ammo
i fired goblin and sold the mech, i hate thos damn bucket heads.
Cold storage
Hey, a free mech is a free mech
I had to remove all my mods and reinstall MW5 because it didn't like my mods
The GTE missions are broke
drop the phoenix
