    It's a scary thought that I would be among the poor and homeless today in the USA with $847/mo income from Social Security. But I moved to Buenos Aires in 1999 where I have a roof over my head, food on the table, and free health care. I am a naturalized citizen of Argentina.

      Jantango I think most countries today can be held up as an example to America; this is responsible governing. But this administration isn't interested in governing, they're just here to rob.

    My partner and I both work over time just to be able to pay rent every month on top of that I do side jobs to be able to put food on the table . What is sad is that my partner works for the United States of America government employee and still we are a sick day from being homeless. We both had savings but its all gone paying for rent . As rent keeps going up our wages stay stagnant ! This has made me very depressed and now I get anxiety over smallest thing and makes me feel weak and hate myself because of it. I was promised that if I worked hard and got good grades in school and went to college I would some day get a slice of the American dream . Well I did it for what? it was all a lie !! Somedays I do not feel like going to bed because I hate the hopeless feeling that comes over me every time I wake up to start the day but still I get out of bed because I have someone who depends on me to so or we will be homeless or our bellies will be empty. I hope things change for the better soon . That is all we can do is stay hopeful even when we feel like giving up!

      Do you have credit cards. Get rid of them. Downsize. Ask for a raise.
      Churches give out free food, usually on a weekly basis. If you buy so much as one soft drink for you and/or your kids, you are wasting money and risking your health. I had to bail a friend out when he almost lost his house over spending.
      Once I took control of the money, there was suddenly enough to pay the bills.
      No more lunches at work. Take a bag lunch. No one expensive coffee and Red Bull. Drink Ice or hot tea that you make yourself.. Cut out all those other beverages. Buy things from the 99cent store. Buy clothes from Goodwill, etc. Don't buy cable, but use internet or put up an antenna. Lose the car and use Uber. Problem solved. No more gasoline to buy, bank payment, insurance payments, repair bills, etc.

      I have basically the same story, except I'm a 58 yr old floor installer without retirement. I provide for a disabled person and try to help my adult children who are also dealing with a very expensive world. My body can not keep it up much longer and I have depression and anxiety issues because I don't know what I should do to fix it. But as rough as my situation is, everywhere I look there are people who have it way worse, hang in there, keep searching, and thanks for sharing. We are not alone, we are everywhere.

      They can't ratify it because they choose not to comply with it. They'd have to do things like providing health care when parents can't afford it.

      But children have gotten worse off under Trump and will continue to do so, not because the economy is that much worse yet but because he's removing all of the safety nets and regulations.

    If we accept this report as fact, then we have a growing humanitarian crisis in the land of the free. Don't expect the Republicans to alter their creed of greed for the 1%.

    • @radiobob805
      @radiobob805 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Seems to me the Dems are greedy...tax and spend...our money. Trump cut taxes and the Dems complained. Think about that.

    • @mikeharrington5593
      @mikeharrington5593 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      radiobob805 The tax cut was totally disproportionate and was primarily a payback with added enormous interest for the already mega-rich GOP corporate donors. Why can't you understand that simple fact ?? Meanwhile reduction of expenditure on public utilities/services/welfare is likely to accelerate the growing humanitarian crisis in the financially deprived shithole communities which will affect all US society.

I was astonished to hear we are the only country that hasn’t signed onto the pact that recognizes children’s rights! WTF??? Yet repute constantly spout how all life is precious with regards to that, not to mention this administration furthering that by their policies of attacking the poor in some of the worst policies ever. All the while the cooperations get massive subsidies, tax cuts along with the wealthy!

      @Deebz270 6 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      *radioknob805* - It's got nothing to do with 'laziness', you moron.
      The only reason why people have to work to retain some element of survivability, is because of the outmoded notion of capitalism and sovereignty, all underpinned by fucking money. Itself, an outmoded system, which breeds inequality and avarice, not to mention war...
      .
      Countries of the so-called developed world, are essentially slave states. And the USA is by far the worse of the heap.

    • @Deebz270
      @Deebz270 6 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      *Curmudgeon of Doom* - From one 'doomsayer' to another, you're on the right track, in fact you appear to be the only one here who has any incling at all. If EVERYONE had the same attitude, revolution would be joined and the entire corrupt system would disintegrate.
      .
      Which, let us face it, is what is sorely needed on this planet, let alone the US...
      .
      Gaia of course has her own agenda and it is paying out as we diliberate.
      .
      Human civilisation has got around twenty years tops, many believe even less... After that, the Sixth Mass Extinction will encompass homo sapiens-sapiens. Who as a species, has outlived its evolutionary algorithmn.

    To the earlier commenters, there is no difference between people invested in the preservation of capitalism as far as taking action to change the status quo. Whether call themselves conservative or liberal their only true dedication is to maintaining the institutions that support class stratification & I'm not really sure any international condemnation will make any difference when the proletariat is distracted with infighting.

    • @radiobob805
      @radiobob805 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    • @radiobob805
      @radiobob805 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      I think it's much simpler than that. They just want to keep their job and the connections and prestige that go with it. They worry about their paychecks and not class stratification, beyond a sound bite. Why are so many congressmen rich?

    I like to listen to Democracy Now as it brings quality news and I thank you all for that (you bring the other side of the medallion to light) but... and there's always a but... It bothers me how it sometimes gets far too biased towards individual human life value. Yes the money should not migrate towards the rich and should migrate towards those that also deserve it - not need but deserve - and those are the scientists, engineers and so on that improve all our lives (including develop technologies that are a feasible alternative to fossil fuels). Those are not the most poor people and the money should go towards them. Now if this means that the middle class is smaller because only the intelligent people can be in that class (that includes teachers that should be paid more to attract better teachers as they are the ones educating the next generation to not be as dumb as the current one - not doing a good job at the moment with the lower wages) tough luck. The rights for children are in contradiction with family rights as people that can't afford their own lives may still produce and keep a child thereby converting that child more or less into a slave since it is expected of it that it will provide for the family no matter what. As long as the "rights" are written towards encouragement of average and below average intelligence people reproducing and voting that leads exactly towards a world of Trump that this channel is so opposed to. I do agree that all the people need to be educated in order for the society to grow but if you just stuff everybody's butts full of stuff and don't impose any restrictions/direction you only get a resource sinkhole and people of dubious intelligence getting voted for a president - as always the king is only a reflection of those who put him in power and those voters deserve such a king (even the ones that oppose him as they let their countries society migrate towards that point - and this takes generations not populist individuals). Maybe its time that Democracy Now! staff reconsiders where they stand, stop reporting just what people want to hear and take some hits by telling the people what they need to hear - the other side of the medallion is still just one side while people need to hear the edge between them if we really want to change anything.

    @matejebach5487 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    One fact which US activists and citizens always omit is that what is happening in US is not only about democracy, distribution of goods toward super rich, some "natural balance" between rich and poor, about human rights. Democracy does not exist for decades, maybe hundred years.
    US economy is about to collapse. That collapse can't be avoided, none harder exploitation of other countries, none "rise of american economy", none free market economic sciences can't change anything. US economy is destroyed by greed of super rich, by myth of " free market" which only serve in extracting more and more profit from whole economy. None war can't change it. None war defeat and robbing of Russia and China can't help either. Also war defeat of these countries is not possible anymore, booth are absolutely ready for it and they know that it would happen, so to win the wars is impossible. US spent to much, indebted impossibly, already played all trick cards to remain status quo as long as it is possible. Economy which is disastrously weakened stands on bubbles of financial speculation bubbles from stock markets. US haven't real value of production and value of possessions. US economy is based on stocks which are tens or hundred times overpriced of that overpriced production and real assets, and waiting for burst. US economy is based on overpriced value of petrodollar which is now 10 times overpriced or even more. When it would explode none knows, maybe in year or maximum two, maybe in weeks. It is stock gambling economy and all is about luck, gimmicks and bluffs.
    Super-rich know it and they are preparing, how to remain super-rich and super safe when all goes to hell, when 95% of americans become super-poor. They organize class wars, race wars, they organizing wars around globe to distract attention from what will come. They worsening global warming to make another chaos and disorganization. They forcing religious organizations on people to distract attention and focus them on infantile considerations and understanding. They inject tons of weapons among citizens to organize local wars. No they are not afraid of people with guns, people are enough disorganized and quarreled among themselves to use it against super-rich. Of course, super-rich are defending themselves by private armies which are better organized and prepared then regular army. They hoping about nuclear war, they will survive it, and most of people wouldn't which would make them safer. Also nuclear winter can help about global warming.
    Most americans are born and raised in dogma, we are best in the world, we are super-rich and super-strong, nothing happening through the world can't happen here. It wasn't truth then, isn't now. Burst will happen soon, but then wouldn't be possible to run out of situation how UK did it by World Wars, nor be possible to organize another New Deal, or bailout of 2008. It was possible before thirty years, now is too late.Things goes too far. Stories about democracy and human rights are not subject anymore, subject is surviving.

    UN High Commissioner Philip Alston details [ thanks to you embedded on my site] the ways US keeps our citizens desperately poor and powerless. Rep. Jodey Arrington's contribution to the 2018 farm billl reflects his contribution to America’s role as the country with the worst poverty in the developed world.

      I am not familiar with the emolument clause, what is this?
      When I was a kid I played a game called Final Fantasy 7, in this game there are 2 main antagonists a company killing the planet for profit and a half alien angel who wants to kill the planet to become a god- that half alien angel summons a meteor to hit planet and the evil company arrests the player character & friends and put them on trial says its all their fault and they will be executed for it because "the people will feel better if there is someone to blame who is punished and, that will keep them easier to control."
      The evil company created the half alien angel in a laboratory as part of a super soldier program but the only thing they cared about was finding a scapegoat to maintain control til the meteor hit a week later and the people they put the blame on were they only people trying to stop the half alien angel from destroying the planet.
      That is how humans actually are, I'm a dragon and humans very depressing- most of you humans are insane and your leaders in America are mostly psychotic..... they are functional but they are crazy & evil and they are the perfect representative for the average American

    IMF chief Christine Lagarde told the United States at the recent G-7 economic summit to reduce its " federal deficit " or else " the great economic recovery " will go in reverse. Despite the fact that Lagarde and Manuchin didn't agree on many issues discussed at the summit they both agree with president Trump on cutting federal spending which means not addressing poverty in America.

    • @dazeenme
      @dazeenme 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thomas Jones ...which means cutting programs for the poor and social security and medicare. Paul ryan, et. al. has been wanting to slash "entitlement programs" as he calls them, for years. I'm all for mandating able-bodied welfare recipients to work, and to move toward cutting out the rampant fraud within the welfare system, but the republicans aren't content with that. They want to dismantle.

    • @radiobob805
      @radiobob805 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thomas you're incredible. How do you get from deficit size to not addressing poverty in America. Doing exactly that is one of the reasons we are in debt. Paying for the poor is a major driver of the debt. The ACA tried to finish us off. Health care won't work until you get rid of the middlemen raking in all the money. Why should an insurance CEO make millions? We don't need Insurance companies for health care...just accountants.
