I am a flight attendant and we are trained for many different scenarios. We are not just coffee servers in the sky. In any given day we could be a nurse and care for someone suffering a medical emergency (happened many times on flights I've worked on), we could become security and fight to protect the aircraft and passengers from an attacker, we could become firefighters (this has also happened to me), we could have to evacuate the aircraft and ensure passengers survive (we are last ones off the plane), we could deal with bomb threats, the list goes on.

I was on my way to Hawaii a few weeks ago. When I was on the way there (we were flying Delta) a lady was a diabetic and she got so low she passed out. They handled it so well and I was so glad. Even though I’m not a flight attendant anymore I learnt so much and will treasure those lessons and moments for the rest of my life. It’s so annoying when people think all you have to do is push a trolley. It’s so much more than that ❤️
Did you ever feel anxious about the plane crashing? I know it’s impossible for a plane to crash from turbulence, but has the turbulence ever gotten so bad you even panicked?

It’s not worthless to me. I’m thinking about becoming a flight attendant so this video was actually a really great insight to me on what life would be like as one.
Usually they ask the people who are seated close to emergency exits if they are willing to help in an emergency situations... it's really bad if you say yes at the beginning of the flight but when something happens you chicken out risking our lives(you= someone in that situation not you you)
There’s this one flight attendant which was amazing! So I was on a 14 hour flight which between Sydney Australia and Doha, So you pretty much had 2 meals in that flight dinner and breakfast. Dinner was served to you after a hour once you got on the plane. Then you would have a few hours to watch movies and those stuff then after a few hours most people went to bed, in the morning once you woke up you would get breakfast so at breakfast I didn’t like anything they were serving and I was starving.. So this flight attendant got me some oat meal and some fruit, It isn’t much but it was really kind of her to do that. She made sure I was comfortable and went even got me cereal! I know right cereal!! Just in case I didn’t like the oat meal!! Best flight attendant! ❤️
@Samantha Schelovitzky I don't think so, but it's possible flight attendants don't eat the plane food and have their own stuff. So given they have water and milk on board it probably isn't that hard to have a thing of cereal or oatmeal on them. The oatmeal would just require the water to be heated.
I remember back on 2009 i was badly sick on a flight from london to cannes. And the flight attendants were so helpful, they said that when ur in the air ur organs get bigger and I didnt eat food that day. So they gave me some settling food and i got better instantly. Big respect to these people, they helped me when i was most scared.
My sister is in training right now, I believe she is towards the end of hers. She is training for Delta. I am so proud of her. Words cannot describe my love for how brave she is, how smart she is, and how successful she is. I love you Liz
My sister is a Atlanta based Delta flight attendant and throughout her training process she told me everything but I’m still just sitting here watching like this 👁👄👁
you should tell her how proud you are of her for making the cut. she was one of 3,000 applicants that made it through all of the training each week with over a 90% rating! that's impressive considering nearly 200k people apply annually and don't get that far.
4:43 they mention that during a medical emergency they will page for medical assistance and im sure that maleans page for a doctor or nurse on board. Im a lifeguard and emt. In neither of those jobs are you qualified to diagnose or really treat for much because you arent a doctor. Doctors have a much better grasp on what would be going on and can treat a victim.
They did that to me one day and I am a nurse, they needed help with medications and shouted for medical personnels. I have anxiety so I was thinking "please, someone put their hand up, please", no one did so I felt obligated to do so. They just wanted information on Oxycodone pain relief which I was able to help them with but I felt so anxious about the situation because when I work I usually have a senior nurse helping me make the right decisions. So yes, it happens for sure.
Omg that’s awesome 🥺Do you know where I can apply to be a flight attendant for Delta? I really want to be a flight attendant and don’t know where I can apply for Delta 🥺
I am a flight attendant at one of the world's largest airlines. I have a Master of Arts degree, experience as an organizational development director at a major media company, and my own consulting practice that earns me a solid six-figure income in addition to my flight attendant salary. I’m a flight attendant because I love the job and making the travel experience as pleasant and enjoyable as I can for my passengers. I find that fun and rewarding. Most flight attendants are college educated. Many have career experience outside of aviation. I was also a training instructor at my airline for eight years. Believe me, the training is tough and intense. -- far more than most people would ever imagine (crashes, evacuations, fire fighting, ocean ditchings, medical emergencies, CPR, safety protocols, human trafficking, self-defense, terrorism, etc.). And at my airline, if you don’t pass every exam and practical check with 90%, you fail and are released from the program. In addition, the Federal Aviation Administration (in the USA) requires us to be re-trained and re-certified every 12 months. There’s a whole lot more to it than meets the eye. The passengers see about 10% of what we are trained to do. I hope no one has to find out what flight attendants are really responsible for in a serious life-threatening emergency.
Gummy Bear! Would they really though.... like say there was a rude passenger..... they won’t exactly be top priority now would they, and with all the panicked no one would even remember who the flight attendants helped Just a thought
Those wondering about that question at the end, how training has changed due to COVID19. At this time Delta classes have ceased for the time being. I do recall their was a class graduating in a week, and a class they had just started...sent them all home. While very sad they will be able to start training once Delta can afford to do so. Training is expensive and unfortunately they had to stop abruptly. Hope this all passes soon.
Not funny dude. That's what the passengers on the Aeroflot Flight 1492 crash did, and 41 people ended up dying in the fire because their exits were blocked by people with backpacks and people trying to get luggage out of overhead lockers. Every second counts in an emergency. Your backpack could literally be responsible for killing someone.
Those slides are pretty dangerous. In this this video they only slid down 6 or 7 feet. On a real plane it can be 15 to 20 feet which makes the slide practically vertical.
With all due respect to FAs, “all this” isn’t THAT much training. And it’s far from physically grueling. There is a lot to remember though. As an FA, career wise, chances are you are actually a less than to some or many of the passengers, be it in terms of salary, quality of life, education, (which i acknowledge is subjective and doesn’t matter) skill, motivation, etc. most flight attendants would make great EMTs. Not because of their skill but their personality and composure. Being an emt is a far more respected job than being what some would consider to be a sky maid. It takes far more physical and mental work to be an emt though, but I think more flight attendants should take that path.
@@colesisler582 it’s a lot of training...at some airlines 6-8 weeks with countless practical and theory exams on up to 4 different aircraft each with different procedures. During this time, only a few days are spent on the actual drink serving which is what you see on a regular flight. Not to mention coming back annually to repeat the same exams and having to prove your competence in safety knowledge before each flight and also the impact that operating through different time zone and working unsociable hours which could be made even longer by delays etc

My mother was a flight adendant for delta and she had to go through this. (Edit: Actually her training was with northwest before they merged with delta but I can assume it was similar. She used to talk about what her training was like.)
Few years back, a fight had major vibrations. It was pretty bad. So the Pilot came on speaker and said, "Ladies and Gentlemen, please start praying ! "
Lmao.. that flight is like a Bus heading from one end to another. I thought Southwest was worse, but they are worse. I'm sure Euro wing or whatever is called is better than.
Reckless Rickey if there aren’t a lot of people on a plane people may have to be moved to balance it. The window escapes in the middle of the plane also have to be manned just in case the doors fail. I flew London Southend to Prague with Flybe once and there were maybe seven of us on the plane. My mum and I were asked to sit in the window escape aisle as well as another man on the other side.
This made my hair stand on end, THANK YOU to all flight attendants! I never realized how specialized in training they had to be! Thank you, thank you, thank you!
You know what’s ironic? For the past week I’ve been doing so much research into becoming a flight attendant and all of a sudden Business Insider posts a video about this lol.
I remember my first flight when I was younger. I talked the flight attendant's ear off. I was cold, she snuck me a blanket. She got me good snacks and earphones. I was like six, she was the best. I was in a seat close to where she was staying
I applied for a flight attendant job today, the chances of me getting accepted are not very great considering I missed the deadline by 4 days and the minimum age to apply was 21 and I'm still 19. I however would really love to be a flight attendant sooner or later because I speak 2 languages and can speak bits of 2 others, and I'm generally really good with cultures and people so it seems like a great occupation for me to be in update: I got selected for an interview!
My aunt is a flight attendant and then when she got married to my uncle, she quit the job a few months later to live in Canada with my uncle, I always asked her questions about her being a flight attendant:)) she says she trains for things she prays never happen, my uncle actually proposed here in the Philippines where I live before my aunt was going to live, update I have a 1 year old baby cousin, who with my aunt finally reunited with my uncle at Canada:))
Flight attendant here: I've made the decision to just MAKE PEACE with the fact that we will never truly be respected as the professionals we are. It used to bother me so much and I would get so angry when people would downgrade us to flying servers but I realized society's mentality will never change so there is no use in losing sleep over it. It's unfortunate and I love my job but I just have to hold my head up proudly in silence knowing that my job is essential and we play a fundamental role in delivering our passengers to their destination safely. To those of you who truly appreciate us: thank you ❤
I do. The Cabin Crew is all about "the rest of the airplane and what goes on in it" and you have to deal with humanity in all it's glory and ridiculousness! I'm a counselor & I respect what you all do.
The fact they need to train every 18 months is amazing. It really shows that the flight attendants care for our safety and they will always be prepared. Unlike a lot of other things in life where you learn it once and then forget it and move on. I see that a lot with driving lmao
Its so sad how some people treat flight attendants. Like they’re serving you, and if something bad happened like someones water broke, they will deliver your baby for you! Like an air hospital! And if there needed to be an evacuation or a water landing, they’d be saving your life! Much love to them!✨❤️💕💖
Kim Taesthetic You don’t need to take any type of classes. Don’t spend money on flight attendant training either. The airlines teach you everything you need to know. I only have a high school degree

In any given day we could be a nurse and care for someone suffering a medical emergency (happened many times on flights I've worked on), we could become security and fight to protect the aircraft and passengers from an attacker, we could become firefighters (this has also happened to me), we could have to evacuate the aircraft and ensure passengers survive (we are last ones off the plane), we could deal with bomb threats, the list goes on.

the pilots flying the plane 👁👄👁
That's so kind! Bless that person! So glad you shared your story with everyone!!
Amazing
They're so sweet 🥺❤❤
Aww that's so nice!
Btw hi potterhead
@Samantha Schelovitzky I don't think so, but it's possible flight attendants don't eat the plane food and have their own stuff. So given they have water and milk on board it probably isn't that hard to have a thing of cereal or oatmeal on them. The oatmeal would just require the water to be heated.

My sister is in training right now, I believe she is towards the end of hers. She is training for Delta. I am so proud of her. Words cannot describe my love for how brave she is, how smart she is, and how successful she is.
I love you Liz
It's an awesome accomplishment. 195,000 apply each year and they take 3000 as you saw.
My sister is a Atlanta based Delta flight attendant and throughout her training process she told me everything but I’m still just sitting here watching like this 👁👄👁
What’s her @ for research purposes
you should tell her how proud you are of her for making the cut. she was one of 3,000 applicants that made it through all of the training each week with over a 90% rating! that's impressive considering nearly 200k people apply annually and don't get that far.
so they usually don’t even say “Is there a doctor here”
They do It for extra assistance, but they also need to train for scenarios when there is no doctor
They only ask after they see that there is no pulse

Not to mention coming back annually to repeat the same exams and having to prove your competence in safety knowledge before each flight and also the impact that operating through different time zone and working unsociable hours which could be made even longer by delays etc
