Great bikes! Had 2 Fazers 600 in the past and now the 1000 one for over a year. Just came back from my Euro trip with it (videos to follow) visiting Brussels, Luxemburg, Zurich, Venice, Rome, Pisa, Nice, Monte Carlo, Cannes, Geneva, Paris and then back to London. Almost 4000 miles in total in 3 weeks and the bike didnt miss a bit! Just LOVE IT!
Yes, a great bike. I have just pulled my 2001 bike out of my mum’s garage (bought it in 2002, garaged it for the last 6 years). Great bike - I did an epic tour of Norway, then back to Blighty in 24 hours via Sweden, Germany, Holland, Belgium, France and Chunnel. Great to be back on it after 6 years SORN.
Wow... just wow. This color scheme, with the well-kept status it is in, , got my heart pound faster... Currently looking for replacing my CB500 (which is a very good bike, mind you), and man, did I fell in love.
If you are a grown up and want a fantastic bike that does everything you could ever possibly ask for, this is it. Had one for ten years, until some myopic tit t boned me off it. Got an MT09 now because I can't justify a 1000cc bike for commuting , but if I was going on a big Euro tour, would chop it in tomorrow for an original Gen 1 Fazer. Loved it.
T-Boned Dude ! 😡 I feel your pain 😥 I have a W reg Mark 2 Bandit 600 (It is so much fun to ride, leaving some beefy cars in my dust ) and the more I look at the Fazer, the more I want one.... I WILL HAVE IT !!, dam yeah !! My Bandit went round Scotland the other month over 1000 miles, didn't miss a beat. 😁 Did however need another back tyre..😉. If you haven't done Scotland yet then tell your diary to go there.....the roads can be so long and relaxing to ride, you get the chance to play with your speed..... When I get my Fazer, I'll do it again, should be quite a thrill....
Hi Mark, thanks for the review. Informative and interesting, especially since I have a difficult new bike choice coming up and have this bike in my sights. Have to say you come across really well in your videos. Like a good guy. Nice change from so many who just want to sound like wannabe Barons with none of the charm. Ride safe buddy.
Oh my, yes. Really good point about the carbs. I have an R1100RT at the moment and the biggest problem is the fuel injection. I really miss my old carbed bikes more than i thought I would. I know that 2014 bikes (any FI bikes in general) onwards have sorted it out, but I don't really want to spend that much. Anyway, enjoying your reviews. Currently watching your 1200 Explorer review, and I think you're one of the few reviewers who can really give a good impression of the bike. Hope you keep making them. Cheers, Lee.
Unless the previous owner/s have changed the mirrors for aftermarket ones no, they're crap and you do need some assistance to get any sort of clearance past your elbows from either aftermarket ones, modding them by swapping the arms over and reversing, but you need to grind the grooves in or you get wide angle mirror extenders that you stick on. Lots of mods on that by the way, I don't even remember that silence being so horizontal. The gear box basket can be drilled to let more oil into the gear box to make the gear changes more smoothly, it is very clunky when comparing it to my zx6r but that apparently improves it, although I have never found a link to where or how you do it. Great bike though, to think that Kawasaki is trying 20 odd years later to do the same thing as Yamaha did with the fazers is commendable. I wouldn't pay too much attention to stats, it's more than capable of keeping up with any new super sports bikes in the twisties and way too comfortable at breaking speed limits easily 😉
I had my first 1000 on '03 and I sold it on '10 after 130.000Km without problems after a lot of trips (2 persons+luggage) and buy another fzs1000 '02 with only 15.000km. Actually I'm around 80.000km with it. Nordkapp from Barcelonna and come back, and daily vehicle. Probably this bike stays on my garage for a long long time....
Nice - looks lovely - I have the same in the same colour, suspension upgraded to hyper pro - would like to know where you got your belly pan as I’d like a belly pan on mine
Hey Mark, as You`ve mentioned you can buy a simple one for 1500....not really...I`ve searched for weeks, (coz i want one) any good looking Fazer over 25 hundreds....lol.....
Fuel injection is pretty shitty... Especially when u know how this carbureted version rides, Did a test drive in 07 Fz1 version, and i totally didn't like it
I owned mine for 8 yrs, 05 reg. Mike ivanised it and R 6 shock. It pulled like a train, handling was very good, an R 1 front end makes the bike even better. Wish I still owned it. The engine was smooth and fuelling perfect. Shame Yamaha never continued the model and improved it. The later fuel injection models were not fazers in my opinion and nowhere near a good all rounder as the original fazers. Luckily the Mt09 tracer is like the fazer could of been, so I own one now. Shame it hasn't got carbs, as fuelling is much smoother.
+mark pulling yes it made a real difference, especially with a akrapovic full system, I got cheap through the forum. The Ivans kit, with ported intake boots, K&N and modded airbox absolutely flew, without compromising low end power, and terrific midrange. For anyone considering buying a fazer, the best information needed is on the FOC uk forum. Really helpful friendly bunch and always will lend a new fazer owner a hand. As regards buying a fazer 1000, buy the best condition bike you can afford. Milage is irrelevant as long as general condition and servicing has been done correctly. Exup valves are the bikes achilles heel, as they are not part of general service schedule. They can seize easily and the bike won't run well. Cheap non Exup headers available, but you lose low end grunt and midrange power. A good set of standard headers rare now, and exup valve parts are very expensive to replace. I used to strip and copaslip parts every 3k miles and replaced bolts for stainless ones. The best place to buy a fazer 1000 is through the forum, but getting a member to part with one won't be easy, as the bikes are so good!
I have owned my 2001 FZ1 since 2007. It is, without question, the best bike I have ever owned or ridden and I have owned or own the following list: Yamaha DT 250, Yamaha XS 650, Yamaha Seca 750, Suzuki 1200 Bandit, Yamaha 1602 Silverado. My FZ1 has given me 40K absolutely trouble free miles. I’d be a fool to part with it. Love the carbureted engine. She flies and she is totally flickable. Keep you chest forward while accelerating, would be my advice.
Gary Worzel Graham-Smith Hi gary..its called ivans jet kit ivansperformanceproducts.com if you go on the fazer forum focu.co.uk there is a guy called mike who comes over from spain a couple of times a year to fit them ..he did mine regards mark ps these kits are available on ebay etc if you want to fit yourself.

I have to wake myself up when I see people on the left side of the road! Lol! Measuring in kilograms/meters too! Guess the bike weighs 473 lbs or so! Beautiful by the way! Thanks for the post 👌👍🏽🤘🏼🙌🏽
A lovely bike that I would keep forever. I'd certainly give you £1500 for that, can't say I found anything that nice for less that £2.5k. Still a shed load of bike for the money and in many ways more appealing than today's plastic coated transformer looking bikes. Hope you've still got it Mark.
Sporticus Sporticus Hi sporticus ,just own one at the moment !! :), a ducati multistrada 1200 ,review to follow when the weather gets better here in the uk...regards mark
Tristam....these are 143 hp at the crank and around 120 bhp at the rear wheel...both very different things Alot of power is lost through the drivetrain ...I only bother with rear wheel hoursepower Have a google lots of info on this Regards mark
@@markpulling12 I speak from personal experience, had a 2003 fazer 1000, on the autobahns and at 10,000 rpm it went like a rocket, 150+ and singing like a bird. Awesome, cruising at 130+, superb engine, and only cost me £3,000 took it round Europe.
Erm no it doesn't .... Yamaha claim 143BHP, this is at the crank, would be lucky to get 125BHP at the wheel from a good engine that's set up ok ... A few upgrade BHP mods are out there should the 125BHP not be enough, all easy to do, not silly money either to get it up to Yamaha's claim at the wheel.

Thanks ...yes it had everything done to it :)
Fazer 1000 - my next bike!
Have an 02 with the full monty and an R6 rear shock. Had the bike 6yrs now and have no intention of letting it go.
I have 2 of these bikes. They are fantastic to ride. Fast and comfortable. I've had over 160mph out of both.
Hi Bernard yes I wish I still had this one All the best mark
@@markpulling12 I picked up an 02 model last week with just over 5k on the clock. It's in mint condition. Still gonna ride the hell out of it though😁

Thinking of one of these to replace my 2001 VFR.A bit more go and more upright.

+Percymama CD Rear wheel HP is something manufacturers don't often advertise.Usually it is at the crank where it is obviously higher.
Rear wheel available horsepower at the rear wheel losses are incurred as the power makes its way throbyhe gear box usually about 10 to 14 HP is lost.
15 horsepower from a jet kit???
