His is one of the GREAT voices of that magnificent era. Roy Hamilton, Tom Jones, Elvis Presley. Back when men had testosterone. (And to demonstrate the contrast, RIGHT after I posted this comes the commercial ad for Yves Saint Laurent men's cologne, with the very vain, effeminate man of today in open, black leather and overdone hair, strutting like a peacock.)
@@finallythere100 Didn't Elvis wear open black leather and always had a good head of hair? Just kidding. Speaking of great voices, Roy Hamilton, Tom Jones and Elvis Presley were preeminent, but there was also Engelbert Humperdink in that group, and Gary Puckett, Jay Black, Roy Orbison, Johnny Maestro, and numerous lead vocalists of various bands.
I was at work on 02.05.21. One of my 'friend' called. At the end of our conversation, she shared a poem with me. Gosh! The lyrics captivated and made my whole day. I turned to her to give me the author or the person who wrote the lyrics to sweet words I heard. She responded that she does not know either, lol. I finally on 02.14.21, Valentine's Day, found that the lyrics she shared with me are from Roy's Hamilton song, "Pledge My Love." Gosh! I jumped on TH-cam and here am, getting to know Roy Hamilton---who turned out to be a big Idol to Elvis Presley. Roy got a golden voice and he makes complicated lyrics sound so easy. Thank for posting his songs. Just in time for Black History Month and Valentine, I am able to hear this man's voice. Bless.
I’m embarrassed to say this… I only learned of this song the summer of 2020. Happen to be listening to the radio one Sunday morning. G98.7FM…who happens to be playing old school music the morning. When this song came on….it had my attention from the first note that came out the Mr, Hamilton mouth. What a beautiful voice…you feel his words. Sorry Elvis, as much as I like your singing…and, I know you love the gospel and blues. But, this is song, it’s gonna be hard for you to handle. I have got to track down this single for my collection. I could just listen to this over and over. Beautiful song💜💜💜💜💜
Thanks Roy Hamilton your singing style and beautiful voice is why I liked Elvis who sang with your style with his beautiful singing voice!Elvis completely captured your singing style and kept your music much loved after you left us!
I just love this rendition. I can understand now, why Elvis Presley wanted to sound like him. He is just incredible. I feel ashamed for not hearing about this great and talented singer who died too young.
amazing total different level of sound of vocal performance feel love hurt our life when we fall in love for the 1st time or more xxxxx love this 4ever and him
Elvis Presley always named Roy Hamilton as one of his inspirations - Elvis gave him the song "Angelique" after covering several of Hamilton's. Elvis was in awe of him.
He inspired Bobby Hatfield and Bill Medley, Jackie Wilson, among others. He inspired Sam Cooke to go into secular music and Sam gave Roy some of his early compositions, hoping Roy would sing them.
The BEST voice of his time PERIOD. The ONLY other 2 vocalist that could stand shoulder to shoulder with Mr. Hamilton was Mr. Excitement Jackie Wilson and The Wonderful Mario Lanza. THAT IS IT. Mr. Roy Hamilton was everything he is accredited to being praised for with that Golden voice. He was a titan vocally. RIP 🙏 Sir. You left behind an incomparable legacy.

Hello Roy. I found out about you through being an Elvis fan. Great voice you have.No wonder Elvis admired you. Elvis sent your wife flowers every week for 6 months after you died. 2 great voices. Should have recorded together ❤ love to both you and the beautiful Elvis
I have been listening to Roy Hamilton since about 1957 (I'm 70) and I never heard this rendition until today. I thought that it was exclusive to Conway Twitty.

I remember his music and him singing but his name never stuck with me. You can have her that song I thought was country but I remember his voice singing it. Music use to cross over a lot in the 50's.
If I remember right, Roy got a standing ovation after he sang a song but I don't remember what song it was. They had to get him back onstage to accept it, he had went to his dressing room. Hell of a singer & the song I remember best was, You Can Have Her. Think that was his last major hit.
Angelina Rucho the above track Mehret mentions is on the RCA album 'Impossible Dream' and he's right, it's a great track. I personally slightly and only slightly prefer the track 'Reach Out For Me' also from side 1 of the album.
He just has a way of making a song his. This guy was the best sorry Tony Williams as he is the only singer I would dare compare. To this giant. What a voice!

The 69 session( January and February) of Elvis has his influence. Both were recording same place same time. Elvis gave a present to him ( a song called Angelica). Two genius.
This was originally a hit for Conway Twitty in 1958, but this was the second of Roy Hamilton’s final singles for the AGP label, his last one was “Angelica” which would be his swan song.
we may yet see the American group Chips Momans produced LP that cannot be issued.recorded by this magnificent artist.who would have been massive in soul music into the later years.Angelica is a masterpiece
