@@shugharris4050 I’m only 45 but my folks are about 80…they laid the foundation of my life with golden oldies playing in the background…this still touches my soul in a way nothing else can, I miss all the greats SO MUCH, something is definitely missing today. I've always said that I was born a generation too late. My parents listened to this, now some 50 years later and I'm still listening to it and still love it. And I've also found my kids listening also, when they think I'm not paying attention.
Skanzool , I was lucky and had older sisters. I got the 50's, 60's, and 70's. They were all great. When I was a little girl this was one of my favorites.

Started his career in Hamilton ON, I parked his car when he stayed at the Fischer hotel while playing the Flamingo lounge where it's rumoured he was writing this song
This just magical. The feeling it invokes is amazing. I love how the kids in the audience start clapping when he walks down the aisle. It was make believe. : )
My dad and I saw him perform it at a concert in 1968 and for the first and only time in my life I actually Swooned!! I still get kind of heart-poundy when I hear it even now, especially in a live video. 🤩❤
I went out on the 2nd date in my life it was a year and a half when I went out on my first When we were in the car holding hands I put this song on and she knew who Conway Twitty was and we drove along in the rain listening to this beautiful song Thank you, Mr. Conway Twitty for making such a beautiful song and me being able to remember this song from a beautiful date
There was just as much hate, you just didn't see it broadcasted every day 24/7. It has become mechanized warfare against us to make us think times are sooooo much worse. The numbers say that just isn't so, however, that doesn't help when it comes to making you give up freedoms.
Sure seems that way, however I promise you that according to history the 50's still had it's fair share of bigotry, maliciousness, and violence. But it also had its positively wonderful and extraordinarily amazing elements as well. I honestly feel that regardless of era, all the negative events that takes place makes all our positive experiences even that much more exquisite, because without them we just would not appreciate the finer points that life has to offer.
I love the way people dressed in those day. Respectable. Clean looking and well mannered. America was different . Love that music back then. I don't even buy this new crap they call music.
I sincerely believe that this is arguably the best classic rock-and-roll song, but this video is all you need for the stark difference between sounding like the King vs. being the King. Twitty has the voice, but not even a fraction of Elvis' stage presence/charisma.

This was Conway’s memorable first major hit that reached #1, sold a million records, and spent five months on Billboard’s Hot 100. It was the hot song of summer and fall of '58. I believe it. I absolutely love this song and this single record version in particular. This Beech-nut show appearance of Conway was of him lip syncing to his hit record. These and other performances were the MTV videos of their day. The artists that appeared on Beech-nut usually lip synced to their records. Very few actually performed live. Beautiful music from the 1950s. The youngsters all dressed up and Conway Twitty also. That was a sign of RESPECT ... not like in these disgusting, disrespectful times. At 77 years very old, I enjoy this kind of music. Thank you for showing it.

The travelogue in Dick Clark's intro to this is a masterpiece in and of itself. Setting the tone for what would prove to be legendary music with mention of classics by Meredith Willson and Rodgers & Hammerstein. Amazing! What the heck ever became of "Whoop Up" though?B.W.

The reason you hear Elvis in Conway is because the man was influenced by Elvis. It's not hard to find clips of Conway saying this himself. Elvis was a huge influence on him. It's not a freaking conspiracy. lol Anyway, thanks to NRRArchives for posting this! :)
Also at height of Elvis' popularity other record companies sought Elvis sound-alikes including Conway Twitty and Chicago's Ral Donner. Tho not an Elvis sound-alike Pat Boone also jumped on the bandwagon with covers of Little Richard and Fats Domino songs giving himself newfound fame on the charts. On the other hand Eddie Fisher stuck with being a Perry Como/Frank Sinatra wannabe and his popularity as a recording artist fizzled, overwhelmed by Rock n Roll. ♣
