    The two of you are so informative. A wealth of knowledge and suggestions. If someone doesn't want to go the same route yall did, their choice. I would be paying close attention if you are fixing to build. Bill and Deb were experienced when they built their current rig. My opinion, YA'LL NAILED IT. ❤

    Deb you look absolutely beautiful! Always love seeing your paintings in the background as I am privileged to have four in my home and one to pick up at our next visit😃I will send a pic when my canvas frames come in. Had to special order to justify the artistry of the paintings. Bill I could listen to any and all technical responses from viewers regarding your extensive knowledge in too many areas to count. Please continue to do what you do for all your viewers. You two are exactly the same in person as you are on TH-cam precisely why your channel will continue to grow exponentially. The hard work it’s takes for the content you provide is appreciated beyond measure 👍😎

    Thanks Bill, and Deb, always a good presentation. It seems that the best revision is always the next one. We have a small 7x12, never thought of using it other than the trailer it was intended for, now we camp and haul in it. Sleeping on the floor sucked, and there you are trapped, building, revising, camping, and planning... 😊

    Really great video with an awesome explanation of reasons for building your trailer in a way that works for you. I also really like your walkthrough videos of other trailer/van/bus/living rigs, because it's like a parade of different ideas on how you can build your own setup. Good evening
    We watch each and every video from start to end completely.
    Even go back and watch a few again as I the builder like to discuss them again with my wife Cathy.
    I am going to be building one in the next couple years.
    Absolutely love the design and build quality of yours and yes to many people don’t understand that you need to build your unit to your specifications not how you or someone else does it.
    Love your other video about the wiring and building quality of most of the Cracker Jack boxes they call R.V.’s.
    Sad but they are toothpicks and paper glued together.
    You want quality you really should build it yourself.
    One question is about the roof structure ( beams ,cross bracing). You said standard is at 24 inches. I’m just surprised that with all the stuff that you and most people are adding,,, being solar panels and storage units and everything else that you didn’t get them at 16 inches centres. Is there a specific reason why you stayed with the standard 24??
    Thank you

      @billanddeb  11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Honest answer is, we just didn't think about it. That being said, the roof is supporting everything just fine. I've been up there up there several times (standing on a ladder) washing the panels and there is no sagging on the roof.

    I did the exact same thing as you , drawing a diagram of the trailer knowing where everything was going to go. And that is what the manufacturer went by when building our trailer and we got a 8.5x20 with extended tounge also.

    Folks can go direct through Interstate trailers out of Idaho as the manufacturer and local outlet locations are all just extensions of one another.

    I've went ahead and designed my trailer. Got my hopes way up when I seen trailer prices. And then my heart fell through my toes when I seen truck prices. I'm on SSDI with no savings. I can swing the trailer. The truck, well..... Got any suggestions?

      A used Toyota 4-Runner can tow up to 5,000 lbs. An empty, all-aluminum cargo trailer weighs 2,500 lbs. After adding a bed, small refrigerator, etc., you should be under 3,500 lbs in the trailer. Just one idea 🚙

  • @feathers352
    @feathers352 11 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

    Great video and information. I probably will never build one but good to know. I know you are running a little heavier than you planned with the trailer. How could you have cut weight and maintained integrity of the build?

    • @billanddeb
      @billanddeb  11 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      It did end up a little heavier than we anticipated, but, we're not upset or concerned about it. As far as "building it lighter" is concerned, we don't really know what we could have done to make a difference of any significance. Most of the extra weight is in the weight of what we carry. We underestimated how much things like clothes, groceries, cooking utensils etc. We acknowledged in a recent video that "stuff you carry" adds up before you know it. We are still way under the rated towing capacity of our tow vehicle. We're right at that 75% sweet spot.

    Could a video be done on options for doors? I've seen people work with the standard cargo door or modify it for a standard rv door and options in between. For someone educating themselves for a future build (after our wedding next year! Woo!) I'm curious to see what you recommend or have at least seen in your walk through videos as practical or cost-effective options. Thank you!

    I have a question please.
    Why did you get an 8x20 instead of an 8 and 1/2 by 24 ?
    what lead you to choose 4 less feet of space ?

    • @billanddeb
      @billanddeb  11 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      A variety of reasons. More weight. Not just the additional weight of the trailer itself, but the potential to haul more weight (the impulse to carry more stuff). The next thing is, the extra 4 feet in link would limit where we could go. Some older COE campgrounds have smaller, shorter sights that would not accommodate a larger trailer and our tow rig. Sure, many have a variety of sites to accommodate large and small RVs, but there have been times when all the larger sites were full, and all that's left are smaller sites. It's not just about having the largest rig possible. Because of the places we like to go, we have to find a happy medium to make it all work.

  • @stevel1733
    @stevel1733 11 หลายเดือนก่อน

    I have a question. What is the biggest size trailer you should buy if your pulling with a 1/2 ton truck. Aka 150 size. In your conservative opinion. Thxs.

    • @davej7434
      @davej7434 11 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      That will open up a can of worms. What is your truck rated for, what is the weight of the trailer and contents.. You ask 5 people that question you will get 6 diffrent answers. Lots of it will be a standard % of the trucks capacity, if you live in mountain country the numbers will change to a lighter trailer or larger towing capacity to get up and down the steep roads. I am new to this, I am going to stay 1000# under my towing capacity for what the trailer weight is. But to do that you will need to weigh your build as you are building it loaded up. Also don't forget what is loaded in the tow vehicle, will limit the total cargo capacity, I have been guilty of forgetting that. And there is the 6th answer.
