    You are the bomb, as usual. You have helped so much in teaching me how to behave while training my German Shepherd puppy. I know now why she was a rescue and I am determined to fix her. :)

    Will your understanding love and care for canines is phenomenal. We found your videos while struggling thru the early puppy stages and although Scrubs is not there yet we he is learning retaining and becoming the companion we desire. You are not just making great canine companions but also better hoomans. To often I see people walking their dog, head in their phone, dog leading them everywhere, digging in peoples front yards... When I walk Scrubs I talk to him like he is my hooman walking buddy who I desire to walk with, that phone call can wait. P.S. I am a cat person 100%, you and Scrubs are helping grow me. Thanks.

    "waiting for 2am to walk their dog" LOL - you are not far off with that one. I used to get up at 4:30 during summer time to walk my dog because he was so reactive with other dogs. Thankfully, we got over that. I still get up at 5:30 now just because we want to avoid the heat.

    Hi Will I absolutely love watching and learning from your videos. We are going to get a female German Shepard puppy and I was wondering what books you could recommend please. I’ve just ordered your book raising and training perfect puppies, so waiting for that to come in the next few days but just wanted to make sure I’m as educated as I can be to bring up our future pup when we get her in a couple of months. Plus any links you could suggest too would be amazing. Thank you for your amazing educational videos. X

    My problem is I feel like letting my dogs sniff bushes and poles is "fun", the idea of keeping them right beside me the whole time feels like I'm stealing the excitement of the walk from them.

      Me too. I like my pup to be allowed to sniff around and enjoy our walks. I just don't want him pulling me into the ditch

    • @mariahowens4571
      @mariahowens4571 11 หลายเดือนก่อน +25

      It is fun for them. But your dog has to know there is a time and place. My dog is part coonhound so not letting him sniff would feel cruel. However, he does need to actually get some steps in. So I typically walk to a “destination” (usually just a period of time or a certain distance) at which point he has earned the reward to just be a dog a sniff around and pee on things! He’s 4 now and he knows the sniffing part will come and has no problem listening and engaging with me while I ask him too.

      My Labrador LOVES sniffing and exploring, but while she’s next to me, we are walking. Then I can say “free” and let the lead go longer and looser and she can go be a dog 😊
      You can have both you really can!

    • @SeanCallahan52
      @SeanCallahan52 11 หลายเดือนก่อน +6

      Yeah, it’s the command and ability to allow them the break to sniff, but when we’re walking the standard is be by my side and don’t leave or look down. Give that sniff command and let them explore for a second, then back to the standard that is expected. Still working on this with my Giant Schnauzer but that seems to be a nice balance.

    I had a great idea yesterday when it was raining. If you've got a dog that pulls walk in the rain with a large umbrella. It will more than likely want to stay with you to keep dry:)

    I don't know if you'll respond but im not sure how to fix my problem. I have tried many things to stop my dog from pulling the leash, but he won't stop. Even with treats, he won't look at me or come when I call him. Whenever inside if i tell him to stop doing something, he doesnt listen to me, but when my mom says stop he does. He goes to her when she calls him and everything, but he WILL NOT listen to me, and my mom is not willing to help me train him.. im really stuck and have no idea what to do.

      @idonteven18 11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I don't know what breed you have but make sure you work and play with your dog to build that bond with them not only that but many breeds need a strong leader or they won't listen it could be your mom at this time is a stronger leader to your dog than you are. Also make sure you are correcting your dog so they know to listen to you, if you don't correct them they'll think they can get away with anything because they currently are. Show them you are in charge not them, I'm assuming you feed your dog and not your mom? If you don't make sure to feed them from your hand for a couple days. Dogs can be hard headed just like humans and need guidance, persistence and patience. There are so many good dog trainers on TH-cam you can watch for free and practice at home with your dog. I'd start out by putting them on their leash letting them go to the end of it calling them to you and then pulling them to you when they don't come. It's very frustrating when it's your first dog or you don't have very much knowledge I've been there, keep trying don't give up on yourself or your dog ❤

    Hey, I know you're not likely to see this comment, but I'd really like a video on the XL American Bully breed. My dream dog is an English mastiff and my second choice is the XL bully. I love huge dogs and dogs that can make me feel safe wherever I go. I just can't find much info on the Bully.

    I paused right away, the first problem is to get that damn vest off the dog. the vest feeds pulling, a vest can be used but not until your dog is fully trained and or the work it will be doing pulling is okay.

    My GSD picks & chooses when she listens & follows my commands off leash. Has a Good recall. When a dog walks by she ignores them. && then other days she’s a bitch. Running after other dogs (to play) but she scary looking & other dogs get offended. She doesn’t listen. She’s pulling so bad that my hand hurts. She doesn’t take food rewards unless we’re inside. Like I don’t know what else to do.

      You can still reward by praising works just as well. I train my dogs on e-collars I know some people don't like it but if they're too far away they won't be able to hear me and honestly I rarely use them and don't let them get that far away from me but when they come to me I act like it's the best thing in the world and get them super hyped. I've been working on their loose leash walking the method that's worked best for me so far is Beckman's loose leash training (he's on YT) Will is great just Beckman's method has worked best for my dogs for them choosing to follow me and them making the choice to ignore what they're reactive to. I 100% feel it's harder when they're adults as apposed to puppies and my dogs are 4 years old so we've been working on their behaviors for about two months now first month working every day and now they're both MUCH better. Just keep working at it your pup will get there ♥️
