Even then, the machines are 10% of the build process. Did you not see them hand building the watch after the machining took place?
@@Lemingtona-x5g maybe cheap in the sense it’s cheaper than when it was basically all hand done but both AI and these CNC machines are incredibly expensive to own and operate! My Dad and uncle owned a machine shop and make different components for f-22’s. Each cnc machine was half a million each, you have to service it, replace bits after wear etc. nothing about it is “cheap”. Clearly you don’t know what it costs to own and operate a business. The money to pay for it comes from the sales of the products it makes! These are still incredibly intricate and difficult to make and far from cheap! It’s about $1000 and hr to run a cnc machine alone!
Watching a video like this is really makes you appreciate the quality that goes into creating a Jacob watch. When we saw them complete they looked nice but we could and didnt understand what was involved. This has increased my respect for the Jacob brand tenfold!! Thank you for this masterclass Jacob and Michael.
This shows how in tune Jacob is with Producer Michael. It's awesome. The fact he has allowed the camera and footage. But no one better than Michael, he has a heart of gold.

I used to think watch prices were outrageous but now thanks to Jacob, Michael, Adam and the factory staff, I now understand the cost and the retail prices being asked for on these incredible devices and I'll never again roll my eyes at the prices being asked. Truely an incredible series and thankyou for opening my eyes and for teaching me so much.

Most of those machines are also Swiss built. Some of the finest CNC machines in the world. You can be proud of that too..........and you have the best mountains.

the most amazing aspect of this entire episode is trying to wrap my head around the fact that ultimately everything you see: the machines, the parts, the technical drawings - all started out in someone's mind. I've always been fascinated by mechanical watches and the idea that a person, hundreds of years ago, was able to envision and then actually create all the tiny parts and fit them together to keep time.

With all the work that goes into the manufacturing and assembly, can you imagine how long the planning, creative design, technical drawings and proofing is on top of all that we saw? A true master of their craft with closely held secrets that we may never know, but we all surely can marvel at.

I love seeing watches being made and I love the intricate workings of a Jacob & Co watches. I was good friends with a watch repair man who built watches for one of the big brands before he came to the states. He was teaching me some watch repair but had to retire because of his sight was failing and moved back to Switzerland. I watch a lot of repair and build videos of watches. I can see why years of looking thru a loupe could speed up the loss of eyesight. Maybe someday I will be able to afford a Jacob & Co.
Jacob spent 3.5 years in prison. He probably got the idea of the Caligula and the Rasputin from there. Those two watches mark the dropping of the soap 🫡

900 components and over one month to assemble. If you divide out 8 hours a day, 5 days a week it comes out to about 5 components an hour. Seems like they are milking the clock a bit when you consider that most of the shots we saw was dropping a gear onto an axle which took 10 seconds...

Looking at this now I understand why the prices for these are so high. And most of the other hyped up brands are not even worth that price. But Jacob & Co really deserve these price tags looking at these complicated pieces and the amount of hours goes into producing these beautiful pieces.

Looking at this now I understand why the prices for these are so high. And most of the other hyped up brands are not even worth that price. But Jacob & Co really deserve these price tags looking at these complicated pieces and the amount of hours goes into producing these beautiful pieces.
