SCV was good, but one thing they did this year and did in 2022 that i want them to change is reusing the same melody too many times in their show, sometimes it makes the show feel less creative throughout.
Someone agrees with me!! Vanguard for sure had my favorite show, I saw them perform early season so I didnt get to see what it would eventually become, but I still enjoyed the show (understatement) and I am glad I got to see it nonethless. Still would've loved to see it at finals...
Crown wasn't last. This was a top 12 list, there's other corps out there I didn't include. But with that being said, Crown is one of my favorite corps, but this show wasn't it. This show had a huge amount of potential when it was first announced and in early season, but it seems that the farther you go into this show, the less cohesive the show became. Crown had the opportunity to create a show on par with 2008 Spartacus and instead it turned out to be 2018 beast with fire. The concept felt so incredibly rushed that by the time it reached the Mackey section, I was almost completely uninterested in what the show was trying to offer. I did enjoy the percussion book, it had some pretty tasty licks, as did the front ensemble. But the brass, I will be blunt, was subpar. The brass book from crown has been getting easier for the past 3 years and the level of cleanliness has been dropping along with that. I heard them live near the end of the season and noticed a lot of brass stick outs, which happens to any corps from time to time, but it's not something I would usually hear from Crown that frequently. I enjoyed the 23' show concept but that brass book was something I would see high schools like flower mound do. I'm becoming more and more frustrated with the current design team at Crown and personally haven't liked the direction the corps has been taking these past years. They keep trying to make a 12 minute show that attempts to cover 3 books worth of information and it just isn't working out. It's possible to do that, but they are not doing it right. Nevertheless, I still am a Crown fan but I'm hoping they can improve in the next season.
@therealnocommonsense Thank you for the response, and to be 100% honest, your reasoning made me see how disappointing this show was. Musically I am very concerned with crowns direction and I’m surprised that 23 and 24 are one year apart considering the cleanliness and just overall sound in the brass. Not the smartest when it comes to percussion so I’ll leave it for someone else to talk about it, and I agree with you on the design team take. They throw out so many ideas that are super intriguing and have so much potential especially mixed with the emotion crown can display, but then they never go back to seeing how they can write a show, only a theme or an idea. I too am becoming frustrated with crown and your response opened another light to this all. Hopefully they can turn it around, but with matt basically leaving, I’m not exactly hopeful for these next couple years. Looking back, I guess I marched some of the last best years for crown.
@No Common Sense SCV being one of the most entertaining is a Valid take However With phantom regiment doing summer training in my town it’s them hands down

The amount of missed shows we had because of rain did not help our score 😭
