I'll echo what others have said. This is a really cool idea and executed well. I enjoyed hearing everyone's answer, especially given it's from such a different perspective and area than what I assume is your target audience. Well done!
This was wonderful! I’ve always been fascinated by your background since you started the channel. Thanks for opening this window on the Faroe Islands and it’s people. I hope they are proud of you!
Fantastic vid man ! I loved the way Virgar and Høgni talked about books, it was really really nice to see other perspectives on reading. Also glad to see that Jade Legacy is one of your favs, classic in the making !
This is so frickin cool!! I love seeing how books around the world can both be so familiar and foreign. I loved this so much, I even let all the ads play through, lol. Great work!
What a unique and heartwarming video!! The people of the Faroe Islands all seem like lovely people. Also, that event looks like a lot of fun, I hope you had a blast! Really interesting to hear what books different people deem worthy of that 'all-time favourite' title. Thanks for putting this together!! 🤩
This is my first time listening to Faroese (right?) and it sounds like a Scandi language spoken with an Irish accent to me! Especially Virgar when he said George Orwell’s name.
I didn't know you were religious, Muslim here and I've been following you since you posted about your channel on ig and I'm always impressed by your creativity. This was so fun to watch, also informative as I didn't know about this day or celebration! Lol it's impossible to mention rothfuss without wondering about the release of the next book
OMG! I loved the video! The fancy clothes are so amazing, everybody looks so elegant!✨✨✨And it was really nice to hear the answers, there is definitely a book out there for everyone!📚
Faroese is so much like Icelandic it's funny to listen to, even though I don't know all of Icelandic yet. (I'm half Icelandic. Learning it, but far from being fluent yet) Great video as always :)
Haha this was incredibly fun - and very unique. My answer for this question is very much like yours or a couple of those you interviewed (the Bible, but for fiction...) and right now The Way of Kings by Brandon Sanderson has that spot. Again, a really fun video. Well done.
A couple of things: 1. The last book was quite a shock, as I have rarely heard anyone talk about it. But it is permentely etched into my memory. 2. How much of this video I understood without subtitles (I speak a Scandinavian language) 3. I am glad Johan didn't say LOTR as his first answer because we want to hear more unique answers (presumably) 4. I haven't checked but were any of the authors from the Faroes?
This is so cool to me for lots of reasons. I think probably the biggest one is because I love languages (even though I only speak English). So seeing you talk to people about books in another language was just super cool. -T
I loved this! What a neat event. So wonderful to see you interact with your mother, sister, and all these lovely people! Always a fun question to ask the title of a favorite book. 😊
This video is unique and awesome! Loved seeing everyone's answers and seeing some people answer in Faroese! The poem guy was my favorite, and also the dude who remembered later that JK, obviously LOTR is his favorite 🤣also loved the shoutouts to Born a Crime and When Breath Becomes Air, both of those books are extraordinary. Please do more videos like this in the future!
Wow. This was really interesting. I'm trying to imagine doing this in America. I don't think many people would have an answer because no one reads books around here.
This was a great video, I enjoyed seeing the wide variety of books people enjoyed. The Faroe Islands look beautiful, is Danish the primary language there?
This was a great video. Thank you for making it. I've wondered about the Faroe culture, and I've wondered previously where you were from because of your accent. You speak English well, but you do have an accent and one I was having trouble placing. I think I caught a couple of the words. I'm Afrikaans myself.
I'm Norwegian and it's funny how many words I can understand. Faroese sounds like a mix between Norwegian and Icelandic (which I guess is exactly what it is haha). This was a really cool video, it's interesting to hear what random people's favorite books are and why.
I love these kind of video! I really enjoyed it and I'm so happy to see Momo on there, even if he changed his mind later 😄 Momo is my absolute favorite childhood read 🥰
well Dutch is a West germanic language. Faroese is not. So not really the same roots. But as those are both germanic languages, we often find similar words
I don't live in the Faroe Islands, but my favorite book is The Bible, too! I was just telling a lady today about how many cool "hidden details" there are in the Old Testament, and how neat things like that make it exciting to read! My other favorite books include all of The Bellmaker by Brian Jacques, Sense and Sensibility by Jane Austen, The Way of Kings by Brandon Sanderson, and The Martian by Andy Weir.
Watching this video really solidified how impactful and influential the Harry Potter series is. That book has reached far and wide in every corner of the planet. Anyways you deffo put Jade City up in my tbr after I finish the liveship traders series.
No offense intended, but Faroese sounds a bit like a heavily drunk Bergensare (A person from Bergen in Norway). It was very interesting, I can't claim that I understood everything without the subtitles, but with my Swedish/Danish background and as a resident in Norway, I was able to pick out certain words. And very fun video.
I'm currently reading the Bible cover to cover. Job is one of my favourite books in the Bible. I have WAY too many favourite fictional books. But for now, my most favourite is The Neverending Story by Michael Ende.
Fun glimpse into the culture of the Faroe Islands! Quite a wide array of replies. My hunch (and my fear) is that if you did this at an American outdoor summer festival, the most prominent answer would be: "I don't really read," or something to that effect. I also bet you'd get more Harry Potter here than the Bible. For myself, no hesitation or deep thought would be required to answer The Lord of the Rings (which Tolkien considered one story, in spite of being published as a trilogy).
Fun to hear ondskan by Jan Guillo. A book I think most swedes now a day have read at least once in school xD (I know a had to read it at least twice and watched the movie so many times that I got tired of it😅)
That was a great video so interesting to hear the variations of peoples favourite books. Also pleases me that a few still say the Bible . Please make more videos like this.
you do know Snorri was Christian right? He wrote the eddas a few hundred years after Iceland was already a Christian country, to pass down the stories as a mythology (similar to passing down Greek Myths) He had no interest in the religious qualities of the norse myths, he just wanted to ensure the stories got passed down for generations the same way the greco/roman ones did. The fact that the eddas are still being read and taught today, that many old names are still given to nordic children, and many older traditions are still a big part of nordic culture, I think he succeeded. One can both have appreciation and respect for their culture's history and lore AND be Christian. You don't have to pit them against each other, mate. One look at this video is enough to show coexistence between the two is allowed and accepted
@@6ixpoint5ive Excellent comment! I fit that description perfectly, as a Christian and as a Scandinavian American (actual last name ends in "son") who appreciates my ancient Nordic heritage as well (even my children have Nordic names).
That was so heartwarming and unlike any content other booktubers are making. I loved it. Thank you for sharing your home land and its people with us.
Thank you so much Danny! I really appreciate it!
Randomly stumbled upon this video only to see my little brother and second cousin being featured
The Faroes really are a small country
I'll echo what others have said. This is a really cool idea and executed well. I enjoyed hearing everyone's answer, especially given it's from such a different perspective and area than what I assume is your target audience. Well done!
I really appreciate that! Thank you so much!
The guy that changed his mind and looked for you to tell you is such a mood 😂
Absolutely 😂
pretty cool video. Fun to hear how much i can actually understand of faroese as a norwegian.
Thank you! The languages aren't too different!
This was wonderful! I’ve always been fascinated by your background since you started the channel. Thanks for opening this window on the Faroe Islands and it’s people. I hope they are proud of you!
Thank you Dan! I am glad you enjoyed it!
What a fun video! I loved seeing all the different answers. And that festival looks like so much fun!
Thank you Erin 🤗 It was so much fun!
Fantastic vid man ! I loved the way Virgar and Høgni talked about books, it was really really nice to see other perspectives on reading. Also glad to see that Jade Legacy is one of your favs, classic in the making !
Thank you Ben! I am really glad you enjoyed it. Yes, Jade Legacy is incredible!
Probably my favourite video you've done to date , absolutely loved it and was so cool seeing more of the beautiful Faroe Islands !
Thank you so much Murphy! That is really kind of you!
This was a fun video! Everyone seemed to be in such a good mood.
Thank you Veronica!

My pleasure! Thank you for watching!
Henrik Ibsen getting a shout out is fantastic! I loved that man's answers!
I haven't read any of them yet!
I recently discovered you. Watchin all your videos. Great content man!
Thank you Serdar! I appreciate it!
From a foreigner living on Fugloy in the Faroes, Cider with Rosie by Laurie Lee or 84 Charing Cross Road by Helen Hanff.
This was a delightful video!! It felt like a dose of joy and I would love more.🥰
Aww that makes me so glad! Thank you!

this requires a level of confidence I will never have, love it!

Again, a really fun video. Well done.
Thank you Joshua. Glad to hear the Bible is your favourite as well! The Way of Kings is also brilliant!
Same here. 😁

Thank you Safina!
We're all waiting for new book by rothfuss
Yup 😂
Incredibly nice show Johan, in the heart of the capital on our National day, you managed to spice up the show. Keep up the good work🤘
Thank you Karl!
Loved this! Fearless and fun!
Thanks so much! It was definitely out of my comfort zone!
A couple of things:

Wow, great video! Thank you for sharing it with us. The atmosphere is fantastic.
Thank you so much! I am glad you enjoyed it!
The mom is like: "My favorite book is the Holy Bible, and you should be reading that instead of that big piles of papers that you call library"

I am glad that The Bible is your favorite. This makes me want to visit the Faroe Islands now.
Thank you! It is definitely worth a visit!

2:40 Bro im Norwegian and I umdrestood all of that
Gotta agree with The old man on classics
This was a great video. Thank you for making it.
I've wondered about the Faroe culture, and I've wondered previously where you were from because of your accent.
You speak English well, but you do have an accent and one I was having trouble placing.
I think I caught a couple of the words. I'm Afrikaans myself.
Glad you enjoyed it! I definitely do have an accent!

Very cool! Is Faroese similar to Dutch? I can hear some similar sounds and words.
Im Afrikaans and i think i caught a couple of words too.
@@VicRibeiro777 Very cool! Languages are so interesting!
Thank you! I am pretty certain that Dutch and Faroese come from the same root! I often find Dutch sounding similar to Faroese as well!

So many kite runner fans I adore that book.

It is a nice place to live! Yes, this is in Tórshavn!
Oh...So the short was from a book fair...😁📚🙏🏾

What most people in my country would say: "Who even reads anymore?"
To be fair, some people did say they didn't have a favourite book!
Which version of the bible do you recommend? There are a ton! I've never actually read it...
I don't have a favourite but use NIV quite a lot!
Niv or Nlt for easier reading.
Esv or other more formal equivalent translations for more indepth study. That would be my suggestion.

The Faroe people are British/Irish too in ancestry

The faroe Islands is a very pretty place. Quick question is it Danish that you were speaking? Also what's your favorite Stephen King novel?
It is very pretty! We speak Faroese!
My favourite Stephen King novel is probably It or The Green Mile!
